I bought some low fat cottage cheese to try for the first time because I so many people on CC talking about how much they like. I tried it by itself and I didnt like it at all. Is there anything that I could add to it that might make me like it?? I really hate wasting food, so I dont want to throw it out, and I am trying to find ways to eat more protein.
So, any ideas to make cottage cheese taste better??
HI PUT IT ON A BAKED POTATO AND SPRINKLE WITH PAPRIKA OR CAYENNE PEPPER
I know a lot of people like to mix it with a little pineapple. I think somone else mentioned adding cinnamon and vanilla. I like to mix a serving of fat free fruit yogurt, like Light & Fit, with cottage cheese. It's quite a yummy snack.
ok your braver than me. I havent even tried it yet. I always hear people talk about it. What does it taste like? I can only imagine it tasting like plain yogurt, sour milk pretty much.
The lower fat you get, the worse it tastes. 1% and 2% are pretty good. You could bake it into a quiche.

Mmm sounds good! Think you can use egg whites instead of regular eggs?
I have used it in place of Riccotta cheese. I add an egg to it(makes it firm when baking). Use it in layers between eggplant, tomatoes, squash and tomatoe sauce. Makes a great side or main dish.

I'm planning on it: here's my altered version.

What about directions for baking it?
Most of the suggestions make it sweet- and I am more of a salty kinda girl. I like it with tomato, advacado, salt, and pepper. Yummy snack!
I prefer the savory options, too. I usually mix it with spinach, garlic and tomato. I also make salad dressings with cottage cheese, putting it in the blender with onion, fresh herbs, and a few olives. It makes a nice, thick, high-protein dressing.
Another vote from me on cottage cheese and tomato. LOVE it.
I bought some a while ago as well and HATED the texture and flavour in my mouth. But, like most things I don't enjoy at first, it helps to 'find' a way to eat it properly.
Like, for example, I learned that with dark chocolate - you shouldn't chew it, but let it melt in your mouth. For dried fruit, it helped to bite a bit and chew on it thoroughly rather than taking a mouthful.
For cottage cheese, it also helps to eat it in VERY small quantities. Like, half a teaspoon. Now I love the stuff and buy it regularly.
I love cottage cheese but I cant eat it under 2%. I usually just use salt and pepper, but I do like it with tomato as well, I never used to like it with fruit but lately I kind of do....peaches and pears taste good with it. As far as how it tastes? nothing like sour milk. I could never eat plain yogurt or sour cream plain, but cottage cheese is different, it has a mild cheese flavor. Keep in mind that all cheese is some form of aged milk........... Anyway, my husband hates it because of the texture, but I grew up eating it. I think you could get used to it if you tried and actually begin to really like it.

You don't bake it. It's great cold!!! My hubby always refrigerates his pumpkin pie (as do most restaurants) so it's like a slice of cold pumpkin pie! Fast, easy, and DELICIOUS!!!
I like the non fat, luckily for me. I add it to 1 egg and two egg whites for scrambled eggs. I put it in my salads, I know that sounds weird, but I have to use less dressing. Sometimes I just eat it plain with seasoned pepper. You might try bending it with fruit and a little sweetner for a nice dessert.
I love higher fat cottage cheese, the lower fat stuff is kind of rank to me but I buy it and use it to make protein pancakes (oatmeal, cottage cheese, egg whites, cinnamon, put it in a blender) I also use it in place of ricotta when making lasagna. You can put it in the blender and it's not unlike ricotta at all. I think there are some faux cheesecake recipes on this site that use blended low fat cottage cheese. My favorite way to eat it is with a little salt or with salad.
WOW. Thanks for all the tips. There are some that Im actually looking forward to trying.
I love cottage cheese -- 1 or 2% is best for me. I usually add about 1/2 diced tomatoes, or, right now I'm really on a bruschetta kick -- so I add a couple of table spoons of bruschetta to my cc -- mmmm mmmm good...
I love the fat free stuff. I think it taste good, I guess I'm one of the weird ones. I do mix it with berries though and that is soooo good. I add 1\2 cup berries with 1\2 cup cottage cheese. I eat that everyday, sometimes twice a day.
