I bought some low fat cottage cheese to try for the first time because I so many people on CC talking about how much they like. I tried it by itself and I didnt like it at all. Is there anything that I could add to it that might make me like it?? I really hate wasting food, so I dont want to throw it out, and I am trying to find ways to eat more protein.
So, any ideas to make cottage cheese taste better??
I am another fat free/low fat fan, its a good source of protien with low fat and calorie content. I am a sweet tooth and usually mix it with a bit of low sugar raspberry jam to eat straight or put on toast. It reminds me of rice pudding!
At first I HATED it, just like I HATED whey protein shakes. But after a month of forcing myself to eat both (w/p mixing in extra stuff so that it wouldnt add cals), I love everything about it. Like slowly I started to get used to the taste I guess. Maybe you can try that.
I dice up a peach or nectarine and add 1/2 cup of 2% cottage cheese. I love this stuff!
Just wanted to let everyone know that I am eating cottage cheese as I type. What I did was mix .5 cup cottage cheese, .5 cup egg whites and one whole egg to make a big, protein filled bowl of scambled eggs. Mix that will 2 tbsp of kethcup and its pretty good.
Thanks for all the tips. Greatly appreciated.
That's funny I had the same thing, but added mushrooms. And yes I got it from this thread.
I sometimes eat cottage cheese as a dessert. With honey, it's delicious!
For breakfast, I like to mix it with an orange, almonds and raisins. And honey, of course! Super filling.
While it's not exactly low fat, it's great as a dip for chips. Also, it can be good on some toast. Try getting the kind that's pre mixed with fuit - that's delicious.
I microwave a potato. Cut up the potato, and then add cottage cheese, mushrooms, green chili (if you like spicy) sometimes spinach or onion, if I have it I will add a teaspoon of bacon bits. Then microwave again. It gets soupy and is a great chilly evening dinner.
I also like it with fruit, but a crunch up about 1/4 cup of high fiber cereal with it, like kashi cinnamon great harvest. gives more than the squishy texture. I will also take a serving of whole wheat pasta (cooked already) mixed with diced tomatoes and spices (or jarred spagetti sauce if I am feeling lazy) layer with cottage cheese in a bowl and microwave. It is fulfills that lasagna craving.
I like it with fresh tomatoes and sprinkle basil. I have mixed powered ranch seasoning into it a dipped veggies into it. I have cut guacamole with it.
But then again, I am one of those people who can eat it out of the tub.
I'm pretty much known for my inventive cottage cheese ideas.
Today, I topped 1 serving of Kashi Gold Brown Maple oatmeal with about 1/3 cup cold FF cottage cheese.
don't mix it together, but eat it sort of like the CC is a "frosting." Like you wouldn't mash a cake and the frosting together, THEN eat it. You leave it the way it is.
The contrasting temperatures are amazing! I sprinkled it with sweetener and cinnamon.
DEEEE-lish.
I just wanted to give a big ol' THANK YOU!! to this thread.
I had tried fat free cottage cheese with pineapple in the past and I thought it was absolutely disgusting, and I couldn't get through eating it. Last night, after reading this thread and seeing everyone say they liked low fat cottage cheese more than fat free, I decided to give it another shot and got the Breakstone's Cottage Cheese Doubles w/ peach. It was SO GOOD and the nutritionals were excellent as well! Yeah, a little bit high in sugar, but otherwise, totally awesome, and the measley amount of fat in it makes it worthwhile to eat vs. fat free.
So yeah, THANKS!! I now have another awesome, protein-packed snack to enjoy. Nom nom nom. :)
I really like mixing cottage cheese with sugarfree jelly, like raspberry or strawberry. That way it gets sweet like the Breakstone's Doubles but not nearly as much sugar content
This morning, as a side with my breakfast, I hollowed out an apple (but left enough "meat" in it) and filled it with 1/2 cup ff cottage cheese that I mixed with cinnamon and sweetener.
It was so yummy! Like a stuffed apple. Haha.
I think that some crunchy cereal would've been good in there, too.
It probably totaled to 130 calories or so, since the insides of the apple were gone.
I hope you saved the insides of the apple for another time. That's kind of a waste.
No I actually microwaved them with cinnamon mixed them w/ peanut butter for a spread on my toast. :D
I'm not wasteful.
