Cottage Cheese

Quote  |  Reply

I LOVE this stuff... absolutely addicted to it... its actually good with anything - whether its soup, fruits, on its own, vegetables, etc. Anyone else love it? How much of it do you eat it (everyday)?

Any reason not to overdose on this stuff? :D

It seems like a very natural dairy product and sodium/excess protein is not a particular concern for me (I drink lots of water).

What M.F% cottage cheese do you eat? I don't taste any difference b/w the non-fat and ones with fat!
However I noticed that the fat free ones have more fiber.... I believe there is inulin (and extra vitamins) added to it??

I absolutely LOVE cottage cheese.

I usually get 1% or 2%

*sigh* Cottage cheese, food of the gods. ♥ ♥ ♥

Love cottage cheese, but anything less than 2% tastes like puke to me.  I try to keep it to 1/2 a cup a day when I eat it, but sometimes I slip and eat a whole cup.

Salt can be a serious issue with cottage cheese - one of the store's brands here has 480mg in a single half-cup!

I buy Friendship's 1% no-salt-added cottage cheese. I also LOVE Nancy's cultured cottage cheese. It's tangy like yogurt because of the live active cultures. It's a little less salty than most brands too; about 300mg.

Basically, I love any cottage cheese though. I have probobly around a cup a day, so obviously I can't get the expensive brands too often! Nancy's is $4.00 at Whole Foods for only two cups, but Friendship's is only $2.50.

I love the stuff. It's my protein fix when I need it. I haven't tried mixing anything in it lately because I love it plain so much. The only time I did mix something in it, I used fat-free, sugar-free vanilla pudding mix. Sounds odd, but it was so good. Wish I could eat it more though...too high in sodium.

Before I started watching what I ate the only time I really ate cottage cheese was with a ton of ruffles potato chips. It's a combination I had been eating since I was a kid. I never would have thought to just have a bowl of it by itself.

However, I went out to lunch with one of my aunts yesterday and in trying to order something healthy that would fit into my new food lifestyle I decided to go for a chicken wrap with no cheese and dressing on the side with a side of cottage cheese.

OMG, freaking delicious. I came home wondering why in the world I don't buy it every time I go to the grocery store. Needless to say, it's already on my list for the next trip to the grocery. I'll end up sticking to about 1/2 cup serving sizes whenever I eat it though, that way I can have quite a bit of variety in my day.

All in all, totally agree with you. I just wouldn't have known it until yesterday!

Friendship 1% no salt added cottage is so awesome I go through so many tubs in a week!

Its great w/ jams, spices and veggies and even just plain! And the nutrition content is great!

im obsessed.

i just made a spread with cottage cheese and pesto.. heating the pesto up before mixing it with the cottage cheese made it really yummy.

Sodium is an issue for me too.  I deal with it by eating smaller portions, and sometimes getting the Friendship brand with no salt added, but that doesn't taste very good.  It's better mixed half and half with regular.

I like 1%, dry flake style because the curds are larger.  Penn Maid is the brand I like best.

I love cottage cheese - generally eat 1/2 - 1 cup of 1% a day.  I usually eat it plain or with fresh pineapple or strawberries.

Today I was low on cals, esp from protein and fat, so I had a 1/2 cup cottage cheese w/ 1 tbsp of peanut butter, a little brown sugar, and 1/4 cup fiber one cereal - strange but delicious!

oohh yummyy!! i'll join this cottage cheese lovers club too<33

i tend to go for the 2% m.f. because the fat free is gross and mushy and gagworthy.

i loovve breakstone's and fiber one. id say i eat about a cup or half cup a day. sometimes more.

some ways i eat it are in a pita; with fruit; in a sweet potato; with jam; on toast; with cereal; etc, etc.

have you tried the breakstone's cottage doubles?? they are sooo goodd!

I was surprised how many listed cottage cheese on my sticky thread about healthy foods you wont eat.

Granted, I remember a time I wasnt fond of it but now its my primary source of dairy and always buy to tall tubs at a time.  I go FF - with splenda and cinnamon and/or vanilla, its delish and the FF is not detectable to me (not that FF is normally an issue for me taste wise).

I also LOVE cottage cheese :) I used to sit and eat an entire tub in a day! Thank god I would only buy it every couple of weeks!! Now I measure it into half cups and bring it with me to work in the morning. That way no matter how much I want more, there is no more to be had!

Had cottage cheese with lunch today, but finished the tub so now I'm out until I go shopping again..

Very Very Very salty! Trust me! I have much experience with that. I would go through a tub a week, thinking that i would loose weight, but in all actuality, i gained weight because of the high sodium! Aye! So just be careful about that!

Remember: Everything in moderation! :)

I adore cottage cheese!

I buy 1% usually.  My favorite is the Friendship whipped kind, though I can't find that brand where I live now (out west).

Have you ever tried mixing cottage cheese with canned pumpkin and a bit of cinnamon sugar?????  Like pumpkin cheesecake, absolutely delish.

I eat atleast 1 serving of cottage cheese daily.  I love it!! With 8g of protien per serving its a good way to stay full.  I eat the 1%, only 80 calories a serving.

I heart Cottage Cheese!  I eat 1% and I eat 1 cup a day.  As a matter of fact I am going to eat a cup here in 45 minutes with a banana.  I have found that when i eat a cup of cottage cheese (with fruit so 250 cals)  a day for snack rather than a clif bar, or cup of chicken breast (both around 250 cals)  for snack I lose more weight.  The sodium is super brutal but I am damn near drowning my self in water so I hope I am flushing some of that out.

You know what gets me though?  The local Safeway's here in Colorado rarely carry 1% store brand cottage cheese in 2 cup tubs.  All the 1% cottage cheese is in 4 cup tubs.  The no salt, the 2%, and the other kinds of store brand cottage cheese all come in 2 cup tubs as well as the 4 cup tubs.  It's obvious at the store that most people eat 1% cottage cheese because there is always half of it in stock (and some times none) compared to other kinds.  The store obviously knows this and is tricking all of us into getting the bigger costlier tubs.  Since I eat a cup  day I need the bigger tub anyway but I hate when I notice the grocery store tricking people even if it does not effect me.
