What can I do with Cottage Cheese
I bought some Cottage Cheese and I can't get it down. Ewww, I can't stand it! I added some sweetener to it, that didn't work, so I added some cinnamon. Stiill no go.
Any ideas what I can do with it, or what else I can eat to bring my protein up seeing that I don't like dairy to much?

a4alia, thanks! i just had those in a restaurant, and wondered about the calories, now i can make them myself and find out. they served me three, about 5 inch each, i bet that would be about half of this recipe. let me know if you make it, and what you think.
oh, and i guess i could add some grated carrots, too, but i'd probably steam them a little, first.
Okay honestly here is a low fat addition to cottage cheese and I think it is GOOD! Then again...I like cottage cheese too. For Thanksgiving every year I make cottage cheese and lime Jello. I don't have the exact recipe w/ me, but try putting this together. I think you would like it! It is a great LOW FAT / HIGH PROTIEN DESSERT!!!
1 - 16oz low fat/fat free cottage cheese
1 - sm pkt Sugar-Free Lime Jello (can use reg jello, but sugar free obviously has less calories)
1 -14oz can of crushed pineapple (drained)
1/2 sm tub of Light Cool Whip (optional)
Mix all ingredients and chill in refrigerator for a few hours. Great dessert. If you are really watching calories you don't have to add the pineapple or Cool Whip. They just add to the "dessert" taste. I believe it is sweet enough just with the Jello. Good Luck!

try different types of cottage cheese - large curd vs small curd, the textures might be different enough for you.
But, for me, i like it simple:
Black pepper and chopped green onions. Maybe a tiny bit of salt. - YUM.
Oh, and the previous idea about putting it on strong breads is a great idea.

Oh, and another idea:
remember that it's still a cheese, so you can sub it for any other cheese. I've used it on salads to replace salad dressing and it's great. I've also rolled it up inside turkey roll-ups - with the green onion and pepper....

I'm not sure if someone already suggested this, but you could also look at the type of cottage cheese. Not just the curd size, but if you buy "no salt added" the taste is extremely bland. Try the salt added. I usually like to add in pineapples or peaches.
I like to add cottage cheese to lowfat yogurt. Evens the carbs and protein out. Tastes great! You can't even really taste the cottage cheese, and if the lumps bother you, mix it with a blender.
I eat cottage cheese with tomatoes, salt, pepper and sometimes add turkey pastrami. (If I have some extra calories left, add avocado)
It is also good with canned pears or peaches (except the sugar).
I see lots of good suggestions though....

I'm not a fan of cottage cheese; but, a guy at work told me to heat it up slightly in the microwave...that way the curds melt a bit and it's kinda like eating the cheese off of a pizza. Mmmmmmmm...pizza....
You could also add some jam to it and someone mentioned putting it in pancake batter...I've tried it and it works mighty well!

For the cottage cheese, I put a splash of vanilla extract in it and then I add sweetner. I mix it and then I add sliced bananas, white raisins and slivered almonds. It is great as a snack or for breakfast!
if you throw it in the blender, it's a LOT like cream cheese. today i did that w/ some cinnamon and splenda, and it made this cinnamon cream concoction that could be eaten like dessert. i ended up making french toast (40 cal/slice) today w/ some egg whites/vanilla/milk/cinnamon. the drizzling melted sugar-free raspberry preserves and topping each w/ a dollop of the blended sweetened fat free cottage cheese. it was SOOO delicious, and only 175 cal or something.
At all of our big family get together's we have what we call cottage cheese salad. We mix cottage cheese, pineapple, walnuts, and cherries. I think it is delicious, but maybe if you don't like cottage cheese even that might not work. I love cottage cheese. Good luck and God bless.
I love cottage cheese.. its a definate trigger food for me. I can't quit eating it when i have it. lol.. just thought i'd let everyone know.. hehehahah
blintzes! mmmmm...
Try mixing the cottage cheese with grape jelly......YUM
I know this thread is kinda old but I also don't like the texture of cottage cheese. So, I make a dip out of it - blend it till its smooth then add a variety of herbs and spices OR dried soup mix. Not sure about the sodium levels in the soup mix though, might have to check that but if you use something like onion soup it tastes just like onion dip but lighter!
I'm also working on making a cheesecake. I don't know if everyone has Weight Watchers stuff, but here in NZ they make a variety of reduced calorie, low fat stuff. I'm assume there will be similar products all over the world. I'm thinking if I get a packet of Weight Watchers Mousse mix and combine it with the cottage cheese, it will be much like cheesecake. Just have to find a low cal biscuit for the base.
And I had a pizza idea too - someone posted earlier about microwaving the cottage cheese and it turns sorta like the cheese on pizza. Yum!

i love it plain with a small curd, but my dad likes it with peaches or pineapple.
Just checking because I made this very mistake buying an unfamiliar brand recently. Was it the no-salt variety? That is truly gross. Even adding back the salt did not quite "cure" it, and I like cottage cheese.

I put in sugar free jello and sugar free whip cream and mix them all together in a large bowl. It usually last me the whole week depending on anyone else getting into it. I love cottage cheese like this. I was like you and couldn't get it down. Hope it helps
