cottage cheese...
Hello. I am just about to go to the grocery store to pick up a few things.. and i am short on my protein big time today so i was going to pick up a tub of low-fat cottage cheese... ive never had it before but i heard its a good source of protein. Since ive never had it before, is there any suggestions on what to eat it with? I plan on eating it for my snack tonight- so i want it to be fairly healthy since ill be sleeping afterwards :) thanks so much
I like my cottage cheese straight up - with a few grinds of black pepper.
It's also my very favorite baked potato topper!

its also great as a sweet snack with fruit mixed in it.
Those are both my favs. With black pepper or pineapple. Pineapple is probably my favorite way.
i usually just eat the whole tub plainly as it is. i like savoring the taste of cheese. :D
I love my f/f cottage cheese! You're right, it is an excellent source of protein!
I like mine with black pepper. If I'm feeling really dressy, I'll chop up some onion, and lately the sweet and spicy tabasco sauce has really been a hit! A few tomato chunks are also nice.
I've tried it mixed with fruit and such as others have mentioned, and I find this doesn't work for me. Don't sweet the cheese! (IMO)
I also found that different brands of cottage cheese can be really different. Local brands here like Kemps totally make me gag. I had to give the stuff away. Land 'O Lakes on the other hand is really good. So don't be discouraged if your first cottage cheese experience goes bad. Find what you like.

Cottage cheese is so good with tomatos... or with grapes.
i love it with pineapple.....mmm, I wish i had some right now!
I dont like it with pineapple, but with a sweet cereal if its unsweetened cottage cheese
You may not like it at first, but i think its cos you get a bit of a shock
I use it like a dip, whizzed up with some french onion soup mix or sweet chilli sauce.
Or spread it on a whole wheat muffin, topped with canned apricot or peach (warm muffin, hot apricot, cold cottage cheese)

fresh halved grapes or canned peaches....
mmmmm
Also, if you want a sweet fix, a drizzle of honey will blow your mind.

I use it also instead of cheese in toasted sanwhiches - really good!
I used in a recipe this morning. its on my blog (no pictures tho, sorry) It was a "mock apple danish" (tho nothing like a danish, was still yum.)

I'm a huge fan of cheese and fruit. My favorite cottage cheese snack lately is to mix with strawberries and crumble up weetabix on top. YUM!
I'm with red herring - I like it in a sandwich with cukes, tomato, turkey, whatever.
I actually just made a calzone sort of thing using an egg roll wrapper. For the filling I mixed cottage cheese, cream cheese, mozzarella, onion and garlic.

slice up a little banana and add a little of your favorite juice(mine is mango/peach).
I dip my tortilla chips in cottage cheese. Yum...
i love cottage cheese! it's so versatile, and can be used in both savoury and sweet dishes.
Cottage cheese has got to be my favorite source of protein. I can't go a day without it. Deliciousness is mixing cottage cheese with preserves/fruit and a little honey.
Like someone said, it may not be a great eating experience at first, but it does grow on you. I like the cottage cheese with chives with pita chips. I'm usually not hungry for a while after that snack. Try the doubles (cottage cheese and a fruit preserve) in the refrigerated section. I got my son eating cottage cheese with these. They are a nice dessert.
I always eat cottage cheese mixed with multigrain cheerios...it tastes great! Sometimes I mix in some blueberries or strawberries if I have them too.
i usually put on of those dole fruit cups in mine! Like Mandarin Oranges, diced peaches, or diced pears.
Or if I'm feeling like a salty snack, I eat it with light ruffles! I know it sounds weird, but it's really AMAZING. The cottage cheese as a dip complements the chips, and it's really delicious. Just try it!

My mom loves cottage cheese with potato chips. A college room-mate of hers showed her this. My mom has introduced it to many folks over the years.... Yum!! Sort of defeats the idea of weight loss though for most of us.... Salt is good on it. I've never tried pepper. I will have to try that!! I love pepper on tomatoes...
