Cottage cheese mix-ins
Does anybody have any good suggestions what to mix in with my cottage cheese, other than fruit? I lovvee cottage cheese as a snack but I'm getting bored with the fruit combos. I'm aiming to keep it under 150 calories, and half cup of it is 90 cals, so that leaves me with 60 calories leftover for mix-ins.
What about just spices too? Or would that not taste so good?
Has anyone tried try a mix with honey and cinnamon?
honey and cinnamon is good in cottage cheese, but you have to watch for the calories in the honey. try mixing in veggies like shredded carrots or chopped cucumbers. stuff in a tomato or have with melon. fill an egg white omlet with cottage cheese
Can't really take an omelet to work.. it's gotta be portable in a lil' cup. lol I know honey is higher cal, if I wanted to drench it that only takes 65 cals for a tbsp., but I have single serving packet thingies that only have a tsp. in each for portion control. (or i would sooo overdo it lmao)
Fresh basil and chopped tomato with a little cracked black pepper, yummm.
1/4 cup cheerios [25 calories] tbsp honey...maybe 40 calories...so 65...yum yum!!
or you could mix a tbsp of chocolate syrup and half a quaker 90 calorie granola bar.
or you could have some cucumber, or celery, or any veggie for that matter...a bit of soy sauce and salt and pepper for a salty treat.
or you could squirt some mustard, relish, and 1/2 egg [35-40 calories] in it and spread on a light toast--50 calories for a bit more calories and it'd be like egg salad sandwich.
hope this helps :)
I just tried it for the first time and hated it ![]()
I know my mom eats it with pineapple and my dad eats it with pepper.
Never tried it with honey and cinnamon... but I do love mixing in frozen berries and letting them thaw in the cottage cheese goo, stir in some sugar/splenda and it's great!
Another thing I've discovered is mixing in salsa, cherry tomatoes, black beans and pepper... and some good old Frank's Red Hot if i'm using mild salsa. Delicious~
Grated carrot, finely chopped spring onion and parsley.
some sweet chilly sauce with cut up carrots and/or pepper and/or little bit of turkey.
I mixed warm pureed spinach with cottage cheese this week and it was really good!!! warm savory option!
this sounds REALLY, but trust me- it's amazing... cottage cheese w/ chopped red onion, a few raisins and fat free thousand island dressing. My mom used to eat this and it is delicious.
other mix ins- granola, fruit. I like it mixed with sultana bran and microwaved- kind of melts. Weird in a delicious way.
You can also mix it with chopped spinach and egg whites, then layer with tomato sauce and slices of cooked eggplant and bake.
- cracked pepper
- tuna
- tomatoes
- green/black olives
- cucumbers
- peanuts, almonds, cashews
an interesting side note - it's very good for dogs, too! I actually saved my best friend's dog when she was a puppy with severe diarrhea.....
1. granola and applesauce with cinnamon and honey
2. canned pumpkin, granola/shredded wheat and cinnamon
3. trail mix (dried fruit and nuts) and honey
4. cucumber, tomato, bell pepper and green peas. Sounds weird, but I make a neat little parfait out of it. peas on the bottom, topped with cottage cheese, followed by the rest of the veggies on top.
5. plopped on top of some oatbran/other hot cereal with banana or raisins and orange marmelade or honey.
6. with peanut butter and jam
7. with crumbled rice cakes and cinnamon
8. stuffed into a small half an acorn squash (or butternut, or on top of half a sweet potato) with cinnamon and honey.

friendship has cottage cheese with peaches and also pineapple. I tried it and it was wonderful. Why don't you give it a try? there is a cottage cheese page that has tons of recipes.

enjoy :)
But I bought fat free cottage cheese and just despised the texture and taste. I don't think mix-ins will help.

see? fat free cottage cheese doesn't taste good. you should start with the pineapple flavor. it has chunks of pineapples, naturally sweet and has a little bit of fat. that way , you can tolerate it.
if you see the link I provided, it will give tons of ideas:)
I have to agree. For the longest time I would only eat fat free cottage cheese, and after trying 1% with all natural ingredients, I will never go back. Especially after comparing the ingredients (3-4 vs. 13+), just the texture of fat free cottage cheese is gross to me. I can't believe I ever ate it. lol
Try mixing in a little salsa or small pieces of avocado. I use a melon baller to scoop out the avocado that way you can judge how much and the pieces are the same size.
hmmm. my favorite would have to be cinnamon and unsweetened applesauce.
or cinnamon with stevia tastes good too tho. :]
