Cottage cheese vs. fat free plain yogurt
What's the advantage to cottage cheese?... or is there one?

It's very high in protein. It's something to add to salads or to eat with pineapple. If it's of the skim-milk variety, it's very healthy because it's low in carbs and fat. That's just off the top of my head, I don't eat too much of it but it's a great convenient item to add with lunch or dinner.
But what's the advantage over fat free plain yogurt?
mix them together...quite delicious...and you won't have to worry because you'll be getting a little bit of each...but cottage cheese does have a good amount of protein and is a good way to get your calcium and diary if you don't drink a lot of milk. yogurt has live cultures which is good for your body. that saying you can get a lot more yogurt calorie wise then you can cottage cheese. both taste great with fruit mixed in. i buy the dannon light n fit vanilla yogurt...1 cup is 80 cals while my the cottage cheese i buy is 80 cals for 1/2 a cup. they're both great for you.
I've just never been able to get passed the consistency of cottage cheese... I know some people blend it, but I dunno. I just asked because it seems that people are always going on about how good cottage cheese is but plain yogurt is mentioned relatively little.
i used to have difficulty with the consistency of cottage cheese too. but i knew it was good for me so i bought some. now i can eat it without a problem. to help get it down i cut up a banana and threw that in it. i eat cottage cheese everyday now :) you can get used to anything if you just try it.
Cottage cheese has a lot more protein than fat free/low fat yogurt.
I can understand if you're not use to eating cottage cheese that it's probably a weird texture...but if you really don't like it then just eat low fat yogurt and get protein from other ways. Eat what you are comfortable with, unless you want to take some time to get use to cottage cheese. :)
They taste different and you use them in different ways
One is cheese, one is yogurt. The cheese you can use on pizzas/hot and it goes stringy like real cheese

Actually, try mashing cottage cheese with bananas; it tastes quite good.
Cottage cheese fills me up A LOT more than yogurt. If you don't care for the consistency of cottage cheese (which I totally understand), either buy "whipped" cottage cheese (Friendship makes a delicious one), or if you can't find the whipped variety in the store, just whiz up a bit of it in a small food processor to break down the curds. I love to mix garlic & herbs and a little salt & pepper into my cottage cheese and spread it on whole wheat Wasa crackers. Yum!
Cottage cheese has more protein and less sugar than yogurt. It may be a bit higher in sodium, but it still beats yogurt. It's high in calcium and B12, too.
I eat cottage cheese for breakfast everyday to get a jump start on protein. I guess I'm one of the few that likes fat free cottage cheese plain, but I recently tried mixing a tad of hot sauce with it - delicious! It's also my favorite salad dressing, which is also a very lucky thing. I've heard of people mixing it with garlic and other things to substitute for a creamy pasta sauce - never tried it, though.
