Congratulations, Amanda! I'm so proud for you! I really think that the greatest benefit of the C25k isn't training for a 5k, it's just getting the confidence to get out there and exercise and keep at it. You've done that and more!

  Good Job Amanda

The finishing time isn't the important thing, none of us in here are going to make money at this. But the benefits go way beyond money. Can't buy confidence in yourself and good health last time I checked. Good job and KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK YOU"VE STARTED.

well done amanda!!

i did my 1st 5k last month i liked it so much im doing another next mth,but just found out i have hayfever i ran across the fields and after about 5mins i was proper gasping for breath and had to keep stopping grrr so the dr has given me a inhalor to try..so far so good!

I have to agree I am def in the worse shape of my life and would love to do the couch to 5k but feel its a never ending battle that I'll always have an excuse and that I am not going to be able to walk for 10 min on a treadmill never mind job and then run..I need to find confidence.

Aimlee,

Well, if you don't feel like you can walk for 10 minutes, start with 5. If you feel good at 5 go to 8. And so on. Eventually you will get there. As long as you are persistant and do this on a regular basis (at least 3 times per week) you will get there. When I first started this I had the same type of attitude, I don't remember where I heard it from but I remember once that someone said "you have legs don't you? They work right? Well you are a lot better off then some people. Make them work for you." Or something along those lines. When I get discouraged and don't want to run anymore I still think to myself- at least I have legs and can do this, some people can't. Just do it!!!

Hi, I'm new to CC.  This is my first week; I'm excited about my progress so far.   I did a 5k in December with my 9 year old daughter.   I ran/walked and I was very proud of myself.   I'd love to do another, but after the race, my feet hurt so bad.  I went to the doctor and was told I had inflammed my sesmoids and had tibial sesmoiditis.   Anybody ever dealt with this?  My right foot was much worse than my left and I had to wear a boot for 6 weeks and have physical therapy.  I'm afraid the same thing will happen if I try to run again.   I could be my shoes, after reading about over/under pronation.  I don't know.  Any thoughts?

Congrats on making an effort to change your life. Sounds like you did too much too fast. Definitely get a good pair of shoes. It's worth the investment. Go to a running store, their sales people are very knowledgeable about good running shoes, bring an old pair of shoes with you. They can tell just by the wear pattern on the shoe what would be a good pair for you. Take it easy in the beginning. If you feel sore after a run, go easy on the next run. Running is something you have to build yourself up to so that you don't injure yourself. Don't take the all or nothing approach. Follow the couch to 5K program. Good Luck

P.S. I'm not a professional, just a regular person. You might want to talk to a professional for medical advise.

Hi all,

My name is Katie, I'm not doing the official Couch to 5K program, but I am working myself up to do a 5K. I realized while on the treadmill one day that I really like running and it is something I could get into. Of course the main motivation is to lose weight, but it totally helps with my confidence.

I'm trying to take it slow and listen to my body so I don't overdue it. I've been reading up on beginner running tips. Any tips on training for a 5K?

I am trying to work up to a 5K myself!! I want to run one in april and havent run more than a few minutes since i was a kid in highschool. I am starting out with walking with the occasional burst of running with my puppy. IF you would like to be buddies and try doing this together that would be great. Let me know what you think.. oh and I would love tips as well!! THanks

Jenn

Just did my first day on the program :) was quite easy for me since i do a 30min aerobics session most days :) cant wait to see if i can really run 5K!

Yea! People are still going. I am glad to see new people are coming in as well! Well I just had my baby boy a month ago and am looking forward to getting back into this.  Good luck to everyone and you can do it!

Audrey

Just completed week 1 :) excited about starting week 2 !! does it really take 9 weeks or do some people have to repeat weeks?

Tasha xx

When I did this program before I got pregnant I did the first few weeks twice and actually I cut the running time in half the first week of a week.

Audrey

I have no idea what this is and i am very interested can someone explain please??????

I had no idea either, but it's basically a plan which you follow for 9 weeks, and at the end of it you're supposed to be able to run 5k (3 miles). Each week you increase the amount you do and you run 3 times each week, tomorrow i will start on week 2. xx

Movin on to week three again. I feel good. I hope everyone else is keeping up with it and doing well. I am planning on doing another turkey trot. What is everyone else up to?

Audz

This sounds doable. I'm really trying hard to get back into shape. Count me in! Gonna start week 1!

Hi everyone! I'm back. I too had to quit when I found out that I was pregnant. I had my baby in July and think I have recovered enough now to get back into this program. I'm glad to see so many people are sticking with it.

as someone who completed the program and ran his first 5k on Nov 1, to those close to completing - KEEP RUNNING AFTER YOU'RE DONE

i've only run 4 times in the 3 weeks since my 5k, and i went out today and could barely go a mile and a half

i've been lifting legs heavy lately, so that might have something to do with it, but really, if you don't use it you lose it

i might go back and re-run some of the last few weeks of the program, but its getting cold up here in mass
