Couch to 5K. Anyone just starting and wanna be buddies?
couch to 5k
So I decided a long while ago that once school let out for the summer I'd start this program... I've had close to 2 weeks and have only finished day 1 (quite successfully I might add) but then I had an incident involving a rogue broken shower knob and a slippery shower floor... well I came out with my share of bruises and scratches, and one sore swollen foot that didn't get back to normal size til a few days ago.
Now I just can't seem to get myself out there to run. Its beenrainy and muggy for a few days so I had that as an excuse... then today I simply glanced at my neglected running shoes and said "no."
So, I think I need some people to keep me on track.
Anyone wanna be buddies and do this with me?
Everytime we force ourselves out running we can come back here and brag or whatever... I know theres already a group kinda like this but they've all been at it for months and I'm basically looking for other newbies :-)

edit: and this one for mp3 format.

Hi Sarah,
I'd be interested in starting this with you. I've about 5 weeks into my diet and about 3 weeks into consistently exercising, but have been focusing on walking and the elliptical. I was thinking about setting a goal of being able to run in a local 5K race in the fall so this would be a perfect way to get myself to that point.
And it would be great to be a part of a group all doing it together to help keep me accountable. If I start to give myself excuses to not exercise, it's a slippery slope from there.
When do we officially start? Maybe Monday, the 7th, so that gives us some more time to get some other people on board?
Kate

Hi Kate!
I think I'm going to start "day 2" today but we all don't have to be right at the same point. I'm sure I'll probably have to repeat a few days on some steps before moving on to the next week's routine.. but thats just me being pesimistic. Monday sounds like a great day to start if you want to :)
Anyone else want to join us?
I'm also thinking maybe mid-August or sometime like that we could hold a virtual 5k run and set goal times and share with eachother our results. Whose on board?

Just wanted to say that I completed the couch to 5km podcast...and it was awesome....I used it more for helping speed up my 5km, but I think the word should get out there about this wonderful podcast...my 2 cents
The couch to 5K is great. We have started our own Learn to Run thread on here too:
http://www.calorie-count.com/forums/post/2769 8.html
This one seems to be a bit less confusing that the couch to 5k (less numbers to remember), so you may want to have a peek at what we're all doing.
Good luck with which ever one you do!!! Dont' forget to sign up for the Independance Day CC virtual 5K!!!

double post sorry
All of these programs are pretty much the same. The podcasts for this one are pretty good. Nice upbeat music.
I'm in the learning to run thread and following my progress there. I guess another thread doesn't hurt anything but the other one has quite a few people from beginners on week 1 all the way through those that have completed it and are running. Anyway just FYI if you felt maybe the other thread wasn't too welcoming... it is... and I'm only on week 3 at this point.

well.. I guess it couldn't hurt. I thought the other thread was all ppl who had started at the same time like a month or two ago. but I guess not. I'm gonna head over there now :) Kate, we can still cheer eachother on though :)
I'll head over there too if there are other people just starting out. Sarah - let's stay in touch to keep each other encouraged. I just went out and bought new running sneakers to get me psyched to start.
Sarah -- thanks for the email and the compliment! I tried to reply but evidently you can only send 2 emails a day - that's weird!
I took your advice and joined the other running post too. Thanks and see ya there!

hey elagain, if you confirm your e-mail address you'll be able to send more. I think there is a link to do so on your CC-mail page
Thanks Sarah! I sent you a 'test' thank you email and it was sent!
In case there are any other dumb blondes out there ;oP the verification isn't on the mailbox page - it was a link in the original welcome email I got from CC when I signed up.

Hi there!
Count me in! I've always wanted to be a runner, and I'm trying to overcome the "running as punishment" mentality from years of playing volleyball. I've heard it is THE thing to do for weight loss. Although I do spend a good amount of time at the gym (stair stepping is my fave), I find running to be much more of a challenge. I ran/walked a few times last week, as kind of a warm up for starting the program.
So tomorrow is the big start day huh? I look forward to it!

Hi Jaylee! we've all moved over to the "Learn to Run" thread since its basically the same thing and we'd love to see you there :) Also, theres an Independence Day run (Or Canada Day if you prefer) in the first week of July if you're interested.
