From the couch to a 5K
Has anyone tried this?

I'm in the middle of it now and I love it. I in week 3 and I think I'm already in the best shape I've ever been in my life.
My wife is doing it too and she is having the same success.
I was just wonder if anyone made it through the whole plan and how it changed their lives.

Not tried it, but definitely going to. My husband is a marathon runner and is always on at me to go out running with him when he does his 3 mile runs 3x a week.
I've just emailed him the link. Thanks
Just got to get my knees in order now, so they don't give way.

I'm planning on doing that in the future. I've heard of that program mentioned several times on this forum and it's the one I plan on going with to start running.
That's one of the best things about this plan. You start so slow that it actually helps get your body ready for the longer runs as you go. I've tried running in the past and I'd always quit because I started to fast and my shins or knees would hurt but with this plan I've had zero pains...so far.
I'm starting it in 3 weeks. I tried before but didnt get fr before school took over. Exams start on monday and soon Ill be done and have plenty of time to run!
Grats on the success so far!

I tried that, got almost halfway through, loved it. But I had to stop due to the treadmill being thrown away (ughhh mother >.>) and it was still too cold to run outside. I'm thinking of picking it back up again, now that I've restored my endurance from 3 weeks of no running XD. I like the idea of intervals of running and walking, right now I usually just run a mile then walk another but I really want to start 5K training if even on just a very casual basis and be able to run most of it.
So yeah, I really like that plan, and it showed me that I could run if I just worked up to it. It is pretty much responsible for improving my mile time down to 10:32 from a 15+ minute mile.

It's a great plan, I made it almost all the way through and then life sent a curve ball and I kind of stopped following the plan. But I can still run about two miles at a decent pace. My goal is to cut down my time from the last 5K by May 6 when I do another one :). I LOVE the runners high that you get and it lasts through most of the day if you do it first thing in the morning :).
What a great site! Thank you very much for sharing this. I will give this a try as well (once the snow melts!) I would love to hear how you do with your goal :)
cool runnings is an AWESOME sight!!! I did my first 5K on March 17th and my next one is scheduled for April 14th. I LOVE running!!! I had never been able to run an entire mile not even as a kid but now I am considering a marathon.
I just finished week 4.
It's been cold here so I've had to start using the treadmill. Using a treadmill has some advantages like I can drink water and watch a movie but I'd still rather run outside.
On the first run of week 4 I surprised myself. Usually the first run of a new week is the hardest. This week you are suppose to run 3 minutes, rest, run 5 minutes, rest, and repeat. Well, on the last 5 minute run I decided to run an extra minute. Then after that minute I decided to do another minute and I kept doing this until the next thing I knew I had done 10 minutes. I swear I'm already in the best shape of my life.
Today I decide to run in the morning. I'm not a morning person but I wanted that high I get at night in the morning. I loved it. Sure I didn't have the normal energy and I was thirsty because I hadn't eat or drink for 12 hours but it was still pretty easy and it woke me up and put me in a good mood. I fell like I've drank a pot of coffee but without the jitters. I'm just happy and full of energy right now.

I'm on week 6 of Couch to 5K and I surprise myself every time I go to the next level. I'm on track to run my first 5K on May 19th. I'm pretty confident I'll be able to do it after having such success on this plan. It's awesome!
Friday I just finished week 5 which calls for running 20 minutes straight. I did that on the treadmill and it was hard but I did it and probably could have done more.
Sunday, the weather was finally nice enough that I could go outside again. Man, running outside is way harder than the treadmill. I always knew it was harder but I never realized that it is probably twice as hard. I only made it 10 minutes. I'm done with the treadmill is is going to ruin me.

I actually just started the program yesterday! I started running about 2 years ago with a goal of doing a 5k, but I got to 2.5 miles and kind of stalled. I did my 2.5 daily, but just couldn't move it up. After getting a new job, I had no time to run, and it's been about a year since i've ran religiously. SO, I decided to start back and get on track! I had really missed the adrenaline rush after a run! One day down, and i'm ready for more!!! Plus, I love how you can log your mileage on coolrunning.com. The logging keeps me in check.
I just thought I'd give you an update. I've been doing this program for about 7 weeks and I'm running 35 minutes straight now and I'm running 4 or 5 times a week. I love the feeling of accomplishment when I'm finished. I love getting out on the road with just me, my music, and the sunset.
I need to find a new place to run though. I've been running along country roads and I've had dogs chase me twice now (that'll make you run faster).
