Couch-To-5k Motivational Thread

Quote  |  Reply
Hey everyone!
So, i set this up mainly for those in my weight loss challenge, but anyone (runner or run-phobic) can join up for extra motivation to get out there and move!

Here is a link to the website for C25K:
http://www.c25k.com/

Which also has pod casts for Ipods which will tell you when to start and stop jogging/running.
But, you can count in your head if you don't have an ipod, or you can just set small distances.
Perhaps, run to the next letterbox, then walk for two?
Or, run to the next power line if you live in the country like me! lol.

And here is a link to the program... I find its good to print it out and keep it on your wall, then you can put a tick on the runs when you have completed them:
http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.s html

I will be running on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and plan to begin next Monday (7th July) because i like the "orderly-ness" of starting on a Monday lol.

However, feel free to start which ever day you like!

Everyone needs motivation to work out sometimes :) so lets support each other to reach our goals!
Happy running everyone!

I completed my first work out of W2!

Really happy with myself :) how is everyone else doing?

Way to go aliceinonederland.

I just did this morning. Felt great. I started with some trepidation because of how high my hr got during the day 3 of wk 1. But I changed routes to be more level, although to my surprise I ran leg 5 & 6 on slight inclines! But hr didn't hit danger zone and I could still talk to myself. On exertion scale I was probably a 7, which is good. I went a new route that surprised me because it had more inclines than I remembered when drivings it... but I did well and controlled my hr. Am feeling more confident that I can complete the program. Next Sunday will be a challenge - will be in Suwanee, GA and running a more hilly route, over a 100 ft incline at the 1 1/4 to 2 mi portion. Will have to jog more carefully when I hit that area. I'm sure I will surprise myself as I did today!

carrie317: I don't know if meds will can prevent one from improving physical endurance. Am just concerned because of how this old bod is reacting. I feel much more positive after today's wog. Felt strong at the finish, strong enough to want to do it again after 10 minutes of brisk walking. Being sane I talked myself out of it!

goddess9: Dang girl! How can an old man catch up to you? Week 6 seems so far away! But we all can do it! See ya there soon!

way to go everyone!

Glad to see everyone doing so great, I complete w1d2 this morning.  I got my 13 year old son to go with me.  That was a great push he jogs faster than me so I really had to push myself to keep up with him, but on the walking part I found myself slowing down for him to catch up.

Well gotta get going schools starts soon and a million things to do to get the kids all ready to go back.

Great idea shellamy! If and when I move to GA to be near my son and grandkids I'll have to get my 8 yo grand son to wog with me. We never did things like that when I was growing up or raising my kids (3). What a mistake. Fortunately, they have all stayed thin and didn't follow in "dad's" footsteps! My son is a marthoner so it should be able to get the grandson out with me. We'll be seeing them next week. Will work on him then.

I did W2D2 today! I found it easier that D1 (which I suppose is the point!) so I know something is working... :D
beginning for feel like I can do this... like I will be able to complete it and not drop out!!

scared of W3 though....

Bobev, thanks! In less than a month, if you're doing it every other day, you will be in W5 or W6...it's coming quicker than you think. ;)

Alice, don't be scared. You are more than ready for the next week...that's the beauty of the program. You already have the endurance for it. I remember In W2, I was so worried that I couldn't jog 90 seconds, and now I'm jogging 25 minutes. It's possible!

W7 is KICKING MY BUTT, but I'm determined. One day I will be kicking its butt instead!

So, I kinda haven't run for a while, so, I'm so out there tomoz!!!!

I feel bad though, lol, for not doing it!

finished week 2!!!!!

which I'm happy about... but kinda upset cus I've got to start week three and it looks really daunting! ARG!

I'll be ok though, tbh,... this is the most exercise I've ever done in my LIFE!

alice - you'll be fine <3

Run tomoz - it's meant to be really humid night, so still kinda really warm in the morning. Wish me luck, LOL.

I agree with everyone else - you'll be fine!  So far, for me, each week has been far more intimidating than it was in reality (not to say they weren't a struggle!).

Did W5D1 today, yay!  I'm kind of nervous for W5D3 now...but I'm sure I can do it if I push myself hard enough!  I ran in the evening instead of the morning for the first time today because I was in the car all day (12 hours) driving home from Vermont.  I kind of liked it, it was really nice out :).

Congratulations everyone, you're all doing soooo great!! :D

Well done carrie.

So, went for my run this morning (you know how I'm just kidna doing it, not following set plan) so, still on my walk 2, run 5 - towards the end during my last minute of the five minute run (where I was supposed to walk again) I though, I'll just carry on and see how far I can actually go without stopping.

10 MINUTES PEOPLE!!!

I know it's not alot, but It made me feel so great! Unreal! My best run yet!

lozzle, that's awesome!! Laughing

I love those moments where you just get this random spur-of-the-moment burst of confidence Cool

Thank you. Its really motivating for me to up it up though.

I'm going to have another run tomoz, I know, I know, I shouldn't. But I feel so good about it, I want to do it again.

I think I'll walk 2, run 5, walk 2, run 7 all the way around tomoz. That should help :D

Hey, guys! I just finished a jog in the park for W7D2 (a change in scenery was nice!), and I'm proud to say that I jogged for longer than the required 25 minutes! I jogged 28:30, which makes me so proud because I wanted to stop about 3 minutes in. It was just one of those days, you know?

I also have no idea how long the circuit was, but I did an estimate on mapmyrun and it looks like it's .6 or .7 of a mile. I did the first split in 9:30, the second in about 10, then the last one was a bit over 10. I have no idea what to think, since I wasn't going especially fast...but I know that circuit was huge!

Alice, I was scared of W3 as well. Guess what? I got through it and so will you! It'll be behind you before you know it, and you can MOST DEFINITELY jog 3 minutes!

Carrie, W5D3 scared the crap outta me. Luckily, I had lots of great people tell me not to worry about it...and now I'm telling people that THEY shouldn't be worried about it! You'll be fine. ;)

Lozzle, you should be VERY proud of what you've accomplished. If someone doesn't think it's a big deal, so what? You did something 99% of people can't/won't do...pat yourself on the back!

Thank you for the support. Guess I won't know til I try it!

I think I'll have a go either today or tomorrow. :)

I'd love to be able to say I can run for three minutes lol.

Just finished W2D2 of C25K training pgm. Again it felt good and once I got past the 1st 2 intervals went easy. I guess I loosened up quite a bit. The last leg was on an incline and hr didn't get hi. HR peaks were lower than W2D1 which was great. The training must be working and the conditioning may be not affected by my meds. I like that! Gotta run, more later

bobev, you and I must be in the exact same place in the program, because I just finished W2D2 this morning too!

I also found it much easier than I had previously anticipated... I am seriously pumped for W3!!!  great job everyone Cool

Fantastic!!!!   you all rock!!!

My knee has been acting up, so I have walked more than I like, but you people keep me going!

( :

Hey mbeazley! I'm doing Sun/Wed/Fri as my C25K sessions. What days are you using? I've been trying to get to the gym on M/T/Th and do group or C2 Rower sessions. I use the Robert Ulley C25K podcasts to work the C2 as well as the training program.

I'm looking forward to W3, for more than one reason. Will be visiting son and grandkids in Suwanee, GA from Sat 8/2-Sun 8/10, so W3 will start and finish in GA. Just thinking about it, W4D1 might be in Suwanee as well...
