hey guys! so based on everyones recommendations i have decided to try the couch to 5k program. i am decently fit but so bad at running (try to do too much too fast). i am tired of making excuses and have decided to make "become a runner" my ultimate goal, even above losing 10 lbs...
so today i tried the first workout recommended on the couch to 5K website and it was GREAT! it was just the right level of intensity. i was able to finish it easily and i cant wait for the next workout. i dont think i'll be suffering with shin-splints or treadmill anxiety this time.... its nice to set small goals and realize you can attain them and not get so hung up on the long term goals
anyway just wanted to post because i am excited! i know it seems small but that 25 minute workout boosted my confidence, and i am proud of myself today ![]()
any other couch to 5K newbies? keep up the good work everyone!
I'm on day 3 of week 2 in the Couch to 5K, and I love it! I've never been a runner, and in the past I also tried to do too much too fast, but this time I'm been able to stick with it! :-)
thats great to hear! good job
gives me encouragement that this is going to work out well . i always felt so jealous of those people who could run 30 min on a treadmill. hopefully one day that will be me!
I completed it last September and am now running 10ks and training for a half maybe this September.
When I started I was NOT decently in shape. I had done nothing physical in all 36 years of my life. You are much further ahead than I was.
Way to go!
Hi guys
I want to start this too--I did the LEARN TO RUN thread and was up to 5minutes to seven minutes of running full-out but was doing it so much that I had shin splints and that put me out of business of a long time. Then I was jsut too busy!
But yep I'm starting it tomorrow! Goodlucl

Hi there,
just had a look at the site having seen it appear on forums so much, and id love to do this as well.
i started running last ear, but had to stop as it massively decreased my speed in other sports (something to do with twitch 2 muscles a physio friend tells me, i dont know, i just nod and agree lol)
anyway, i'm not in training for that for a while, so it would be good to get properly into shape,
when i left it i could almost run 3 miles, and my goal now is to be able to run into the university in the morning, rather than get the bus! (honestly, im such a cheap skate!) thats 6 miles, but i have till october,
just wanted to say thanks! if i hadn't seen this thread I wouldn't have looked, and id never have known
I too have begun training for a 5k. My goal is to do a couple this summer then next year try a 10k. I found a cool training program at runnersworld.com. I found this before I heard about the couch to 5k. This is my third week and I have really surprised myself with what I can do. Best of luck to you!
Hi Everyone! I am starting the couch to 5k tonight! I was going to start it Sat. but got side tracked. It seems really cool and like allydan said, it seems like something I can stick to. Wish me luck tonight!
Did the first day! Feel great! Can't wait to go tomorrow!
hey everyone! how is couch to 5k going? i am in the middle of week 2 and so far i feel good. i definitely find it pretty challenging but i am still able to finish. i think having a structured regimen of 3 days a week makes you more motivated and its easier to commit to working out. i know i would feel so bad/guilty if i got behind on the program!
Hi. I just finished day one of week two this evening... and I feel pretty good as well. The three day per week commitment is perfect for me as well... I've been running outside with my puppy (I don't think she likes it very much). I know I'm running/jogging super slow but it is still elevating my heart rate so I'm just focusing on finshing the whole time requirements. The only issue I'm having is my knee... I had an ACL replacement about 2 1/2 years ago and have been fearful of running since- the knee with the replacement is doing great but my other knee (formerly the good one LOL) is not as great. I'm satisfied just doing what I can and hopefully by the end of the program I'll be at or around the full 3.1 miles! Good luck to everyone- i enjoy reading everyones encouraging posts... I wouldn't have even known about the program without these forums :-)
