Do I have to count the calories even if I'm having a fruit day?

Is a fruit day a day where you eat nothing but fruit? I would say it depends on which fruits you're eating and how much.

Yes, until now I've eaten a medium size banana, and aprox. 25 oz strawberries. I thought I'll eat a medium sized honeydew melon. Is this too much?:)

I doubt there's a huge amount of cals in a melon. I'd say if you were eating mangoes and bananas and things then maybe but you prob would find it hard to go drastically over cal limit just eating fresh fruit. Though it might be good just to see?

You need protein, carbs and fats to run your body.  When you eat only fruit you are basically eating nothing but sugar.  Having a fruit only day is silly, it's not healthy and it likely won't do anything but make you crave sugar and feel hungry (since fats make you feel full).  Incorperating fruits in with a balanced diet is good, but only eating one thing, regardless of how healthy that one thing is, is unhealthy.

Count the calories, check your total sugar intake at the end of the day too...you may be surprised.

well for someone who is underweight and undereats (less then 1200cal a day)... I think you need a serious diet revamp and reality check

-an all fruit day puts up a red flag in my eyes... what other restrictions do you have?

-you need a balance of nutrients (protein, fat, carbs, and various vitamins, minerals) which an all fruit diet is lacking

-your're underweight.. stop with this dieting before it becomes a more serious health issue (ie eating disorder)

...and to answer your initial question, no you shouldnt count fruit calories. YOU shouldn't count calories, period. It seems as though you are manipulating the rules of calorie counting to make yourself thinner by eating low calorie high quantity food (ie fruit) so that it feels like you are eating a lot, but really arn't.

You SHOULD count calories if you plan on upping them to a healthy amount, just to make sure that you are eating properly

Fruit calories still count, so I'd count them. It might be hard to take in very many calories on just fruit, but yeah..those calories do still matter.

A banana's about 100.

Strawberries are 114 for a pint.

A whole 5 1/4" honeydew melon is 360 calories.

You're totting up a whopping 574 calories. For a whole day?

This is not a healthy way for you to live and eat regardless of whether you count calories or not and definitely doesn't fall under CC's guidelines.

I would still keep track of calories.  I do a fruit day once in a while if I really blew it the day before.  It helps cleanse my system.  Once you get into the pattern of healthy eating you won't find you need it as much.  I don't think it is unhealthy if you keep it to no more than once a week, otherwise you could compromise nutrition.  I was surprised though.  One time I logged my calorie count on fruit and I got 25 grams of protein!  That only put me back 25 grams for the day, easy to make up over the week.  Toss and avocado in at the end of the day (it's a fruit) and you'll have your fat needs as well as some valuable vitamins and minerals.  I also find having a vegetable fruit salad (tomato, cucumber, peppers, and avocado) at the end of the day prevents unpleasant experiences the next day.

Wow, you actually ate 1 lb, 9 oz of strawberries??

Why just eat fruit? It's just sugar!?!

What is more, your BMI is 17.5 (using your stats of 5ft 3" and 99 lbs) and that is underweight. You need more than just sugar to run your body, especially one that is underweight. You could afford to put on 6 lbs, it would be healthier.

Please do not tell me that you wish to lose more weight? Using your stats, if you lay in bed all day and did nothing you would need 1269 cals to maintain your weight - but from a healthy and mixed diet. I assume you do not lay in bed all day and you are at some point active (sorry to assume and forgive me if you do need to remain rested all day), say sedentary, then you will need 1522 per day to maintain your weight.

I wish you well.

Thank you all for your outputs. I think I have to admit that is not healthy to eat only fruit even for 1 day...I felt bloated and hungry in the same time. Nelly 1880 to answer your question,no I'm not sedentary I'm doing pilates on a regular basis and the usual everyday activites (ex. housework) but I logged myself as sedentary because I think these don't make too much calories. I don't want to lose anymore weight, I just want to maintain my actual weight, I'm feeling really healthy and comfortable in my new shapeSmile.

Being comfortable with one's weight is a personal feeling, I understand and respect that. When I have too much fruit I tend to get cramps and feel bloated with the carb overload - and my newly flat stomach does not stay flat! I do not wish that to happen to you, it would be x10 worse if you are to only eat fruit. Enjoy a varied diet and thumbs up to the pilates, it fab!
