How can i NOT count calories?
Ive been counting calories for a while because i actually needed to make sure i was getting enough during my ED... but now i think im ready to "go it alone" and eyeball it, if i can. I really want to try it, but everytime i see food i automatically associate a number with it!
Does anyone have any advice on ways to train yourself to not count calories after such a long time of doing so?
Thanks!
i would love the answer to this question as well...to me counting is stupid and i'm so ready to be done with it but i still know the count for the day in my head because i look at the nutrition facts still. i'd say just don't measure anything anymore..just serve yourself and eat until you're full. also, maybe if you eat more homecooked meals that you can't count because you don't know what's in it then you'd be better off. try deli food or something without calorie information. eventually you'll probably just stop caring so much when you realize it won't harm your body as long as you eat when you're hungry and stop when you're full. are you in maintenance mode now? what are your stats? how old are you?
It's like a kind of 'tinnitus'.... instead of noises in the ears, you've got calories.
The most effective treatment for tinnitus is focusing the attention elsewhere.... it doesn't mean the noises go away but the sufferer can make them recede into the background instead of being conscious of them all the time. I'd suggest the same for you. The idea of home-cooked meals is excellent.... you'd be forced to think about the real value of food... flavour, texture, aroma, satisfaction, enjoyment.... and less about the numbers.
Thanks for the replys!
Im 5'10, 127 lbs at the moment. Im so desparately good at counting calories that i know how much approxiamtely is in everything i eat! Rice, chicken, added calories in for the oils cooked with it... im way too technically skilled for my own good i wish i didnt even start in the first place!
Im trying to count food groups lately but its not working too well... :(
