QUESTION OF THE DAY - THURSDAY MAY 29
What have you done today to burn calories?
MOLLY
I'm getting off of work right now and my next stop is the fitness room downstairs where I will work out with a coworker for 30-45 minutes. Mostly treadmill, but doing some dumbbell weights, too.
Just finished one hour of running on the elliptical here at my office gym. My stupid left leg is still bothering me so I'm not running on the treadmill. I really hope it gets better soon.
Late in joining...but here goes. :)
Goals:
1. Stay in between a 500-1000 cal deficit everyday except for 1 cheat day!
2. Get moving (walking, jogging, softball, volleyball) everyday! 1 day off if necessary.
3. Cut back on sodium!
4. Loose at 10-15 lbs this summer! Took back my wedding dress and ordered the smaller size...so I better be there! lol
Question of the Day for 05/29/08: Haven't done much yet, but have a nice walk/jog planned after work today. :)
Does fighting with my daughter's school count? I'm sure I burned a lot of calories there!! And all I was asking was for them to keep her in school for the last hour! She was running a fever of 99, so they 'have' to send her home! That's after the last two days she was running a 101 fever while at school. So when I mentioned that since she's coming home early today, then she will not be going on the 'academically beneficial' field trip to the city pool tomorrow, the secretary actually told me that I shouldn't keep her from that! Urrrggghhh! Calories burned? I'd say! ![]()
I have a few favourite breakfast's and alternate between them on most days. I am aiming for approx 300 cals for my breakfast.
1 cup fat free strawberry yogurt, with 1/4 cup trail mix grapenuts on top (crunch and taste is like granola)
1 slice wholewheat toast with 1 tbspn reduced fat, smooth peanut butter, 8oz glass of 2% milk.
1 cup fat free vanilla yogurt, mix in 1/4 cup dry oatmeal, 2 tspn honey, two chopped up fresh apricots (off my tree)
1/2 cup 2% cottage cheese, 1 apple chopped into chunks sprinkle liberally with cinnamon. (good snack on workout days too).
All the above are easy for me to do at work and fill me up from 6 am until snack time at 9.30.

Today I went for a 30 minute run and did about twenty minutes of pilates. : ) felt great! I love how pilates 'stretches' you out. It's relaxing.

QUESTION OF THE DAY - THURSDAY MAY 29
What have you done today to burn calories?
MOLLY
I walked 3 miles today, part of which included carrying groceries home from the store. That's not really a huge walk for me, but it did put me past my May exercise goal of 1750 minutes, so I'm really excited about that.
Keep up the good work everybody!
All three kittens are now big enough to be spayed/neutered ("speutered") so I made appointments for them next Thursday/Friday for their surgeries. Little Pecan has been adopted by our neighbors 2 doors down, so I am excited that I will get to watch her grow up into all her grey fuzzy tabby cuteness!!! Still no nibbles on fuzzy black Walnut and buff fuzzball Peanut, but I am hopeful someone will select them on our next adoption event on Saturday June 7. (Though I am secretly happy I get to spend a little more time with them!) Since they are now old enough to "leave the nest" I decided to reclaim my kitchen and put the 4-story kitten cage away! They now have a "big kitty" litter box in its place, plus their food and water dishes. I've spoken to our big kitties (especially Molly and Megan) and told them to "play nice" with the little ones.
For some inexplicable reason, the scale showed a 1.4 pound increase this morning. Let me assure you that I didn't eat 5,000 calories yesterday, so I'm thinking it's (once again) some weird water retention thingy. The funny thing is that I didn't have any more sodium yesterday than normal, nor did I eat anything unusual -- so it's definitely just my wonderfully weird body being .... well, wonderfully weird. I'm not freaked out about it, I just really wish I understood better WHY my body would hang onto water like that ...but I suppose it's one of the great mysteries of life (like why buttered toast always lands on the carpet butter side down).
Tomorrow (Friday) I am taking a girlfriend to a doctor's appointment (prayers requested for her, please) ... which could take most of the morning. I have no real plans for the afternoon other than possibly biking -- though it is supposed to be upper 80s and that may be too warm for biking then.... but maybe I will at least get 1-2 miles in, anyway. And I might get a few more miles in after dinner, too. I haven't a clue what I'm having for dinner tomorrow ... guess I'd better go check the freezer and do some meal planning, huh? Breakfast and lunch are easy -- same old, same old ... which really is nice/simple (and not boring at all!)
DRINK YOUR WATER!!!!
I took the day off yesterday. And I'm feeling it this morning. I did some walking on my treadmill before work and my legs got used to the time off so they are a little stiff right now. Ick.
I would like to bring up the topic of "disappointing treats!" Hubby wanted Burger King (ick) last night for dinner. Ok, no biggie. As long as I stay w.in my calories, I'm ok. Which I did! However, I decided to splurge and get their new "Cookie Dough Pie." Sounds good, right? 300+ calories for a slice. I was so ready for a really good sugar rush! I didn't even get half way done with it. It wasn't what I expected. I got so mad! I felt as if I wasted those precious calories!
Anyone else ever experience this?

Yes! I hate it when that happens! I splurged on a chocolate chip cookie the other day and it was so bland and unexciting. All I could think was "I wasted my calories on THIS?"
Next time, I'll make my own at home and splurge on those!!

QUESTION OF THE DAY - THURSDAY MAY 29
What have you done today to burn calories?
MOLLY
I did my usual housework, chase after kids. No walking Thursday, as Tuesday, I walked 2 miles, then proceeded to layout 11 - 40pound bags of top soil to prep my flower garden. When I got up Thursday, my hamstrings were smartin, so I took a day off. Tonight, I will be planting the flowers!
I use a pedometer and make sure that I get over 10,000 steps a day. It's funny - I've gotten so used to wearing it that when I forget it I feel like I'm not dressed - you know kind of like when you forget your earrings! LOL Most days I'd tell you that I played golf but had a retirement party yesterday and couldn't go golfing.

When I first started this in January, I didn't intend to tell anyone, because I didn't want to think of it as a diet, but rather a lifestyle change. But after a while it became pretty unavoidable. I'd lost some weight, turned down sweets, etc. and it's hard to avoid saying what you're doing when that happens. Now I talk about it all the time.
QUESTION OF THE DAY - THURSDAY MAY 29
What have you done today to burn calories?
Yesterday I walked a mile at work with a co-worker, then I ran some errands, cooked dinner (healthy for once!), and had a sand volleyball game. Too bad it wasn't really a good game, I don't feel like I got a good workout from it. Oh well. :)
QUESTION OF THE DAY FOR FRIDAY MAY 30
Do you tell people when you are "dieting"? (Counting calories, trying to lose weight)
Nope. When people know they want to know what the secret it. And they dont' like it when you tell them there is no secret, it's hard work, exercise, counting calories, etc. Then I see the disappointed look and eyes glaze over.
Question of the day for 05/30/08: Yes, it's not like I tell everyone, but I talk about it with the girls at work and anyone who really cares...most of whom are trying to do the same things with their lives.

Isn't that funny? I find most people here are still interested in talking to me about what I'm doing, but they invariably ask "what are you doing?" and are a little disappointed when I say that I'm counting calories and eating clean. To a person, they are all hoping for a miracle technique! Lol.
Hope springs eternal, I guess.

I haven't told anyone about trying to lose weight. I think a lot of that comes from the weird pressure my mom always put on me to lose weight when I was in high school. I'm generally pretty self conscious about it all. Nobody has really said anything to me yet, but I'm kind of nervous about when they do. Having always been overweight, I don't really like it when people draw attention to my body.
I gained today, which seems weird. I did eat later than usual yesterday, but I had a 750 calorie deficit, so I don't really know what that's all about. I also had a really weird weigh-in today. My scale is usually weird, but today was totally disheartening. I usually step on with my left foot first, and it gives me the weight from the day before. Then I step on right foot first, and it gives me a lower weight. Then, if I step on left foot first again, it will agree with the lower weight. (I know, pain in the butt.) Today, though, they just wouldn't agree. I got about 8 different weights within 4 minutes, so I have no idea what's going on. I think my scale snuck out last night and got drunk.

I don't go around announcing it to people. But those who are around me enough know I'm making lifestyle changes. Over the last year I have lost close to 50 lbs, that are starting to show, (not enough for me) so I've been getting the questions and comments. I just tell them I'm trying to watch what I eat.
To help me get through this 'phase' of my life I've decided it's NOT a diet, but a change in lifestyle. I feel better and can't wait to improve that feeling.
Guess what! I got my bike yesterday! Yippie. It's just a cheapy thing, didn't want to spend a lot of money, but it's been fun. I took it out this morning, with my toddler strapped in I made it all the way around my block twice. I know, nothing to be proud of, but sheesh, my legs feel like jelly and by backside, well, ouch! My co-workers wanted me to ride over to work so they could have a look, after my neighborhood excursion I politely declined! It may take a bit to work up to that. But I am happy to be doing something.
Alright, off to drink some water!
Hi, I've just found this thread and would like to join, too.
My goals:
- Do something to get my heart rate up or break a sweat everyday.
- Keep my calories between 1200 and 1400 every day. Maybe allow one day a week up to 2100 if/when things get tough.
- Drink as many ounces of water each day that I weigh in pounds.
- Stay completely away from all processed/refined sugar and caffeine and also artificial sweeteners.
- Keep doing pilates to tone up my flab.
- And last but not least: To NOT quit after the summer ends this time! (In the past I have gained my weight back every winter.)

I'm trying not to use the "d" word because I really really want this to be a life style change for me and not just a temporary thing. I do prefer to just wait for the results to speak for themselves rather than tell people. But it usually takes so long before the results show and I really like encouragement. ![]()
