I missed yesterday's question- sorry.
It's really hard to decide what is my favorite anything, I just pretty much love all foods and the flavors very with my moods, time of day, time of year, which ever way the wind is shifting at the time! heehee

As for today's question: I don't really have a specific time of day to avoid, it's more my mood, whether or not I'm bored, tired, stressed, happy... yeah, that pretty much sums me up, I just eat when-ever, where-ever and what-ever! No wonder I'm over weight!

Last night I took my daughter out to dinner to celebrate her making Superintendent's Honor Roll. I had Chinese food, I did try to be good though on my portion sizes. I didn't go too far over my calorie goal, but this morning the scale showed a 2 lb increase!!! Please, please please be because of the sodium and TOM!!!!

What time of day is your biggest challenge, when it comes to healthy eating? Late night snacking? Starving mid-afternoon? Finding time for eating a healthy breakfast?

String cheese.  End of sentence.

QUESTION OF THE DAY - THURSDAY JUNE 5

If money was no object, what would your dream "healthy" dinner consist of?

If money was no object, what would your dream "not healthy, but so wonderful tasting you don't care" dinner consist of?

MOLLY

Healthy dinner - a huge field greens salad with light vinegar dressing, some FRESH blackened shrimp or fish and some grilled zucchini squash.

Not Healthy Dinner - Dinner at my favorite Italian restaurant with a variety of pasta dishes served with several different creamy sauces, fresh Italian bread and brushutta (sp?) and wine and cheese on the side AND a nice Italian dessert of course.

Missed yesterday...so for my healthy meal it would be steamed asparagus, grilled potabella mushrooms tossed with baby spinach and a tiny bit of feta cheese in a pita.  For some more protien probably some grilled shimp marinated in lemon and some Mrs. Dash garlic herb seasoning.

Hmmm....non-healthy, it could be so many things.  How about a medium rare fillet, steamed asparagus w/ butter, a piece of garlic toast, and a few glasses of my favorite wine. Or substitute the steak for lobster tail with butter...mmm.

June 6 QOD:  My biggest time of the day challenge would have to be late night.  It's even worse on the weekends when my fiancee has headed to work for the night.

QUESTION OF THE DAY FRIDAY JUNE 6

What time of day is your biggest challenge, when it comes to healthy eating? Late night snacking? Starving mid-afternoon? Finding time for eating a healthy breakfast?

MOLLY

That's a hard question. Depending on the day and the circumstances, any one of those can be a challenge for me. The key for me is scheduling and planning EVERY single meal. If I don't, I'm likely to get too hungry and will want something that isn't healthy or grab something that is just quick and not healthy. And when I'm not going according to my healthy schedule, the evening is the worst time of day for me because since I haven't eaten healthy all day, the night time becomes my worst as far as snacking goes.

But since I started CC, I haven't had problems at night because I am feeding myself well during the day. And if I do get the munchies at night, my favorite snack is either pop corn or frozen blueberries.

My biggest challenge is when I'm faced with yummy snacks.  Usually I'm fine, because I truly eat enough, but I think certain times of the month are more challenging for me and good chocolate is hard to resist.

I'm behind on reading all the posts and am catching up. But I just had to comment on this one. That was so funny, I think I peed my pants!

QUESTION OF THE DAY FRIDAY JUNE 6

What time of day is your biggest challenge, when it comes to healthy eating? Late night snacking? Starving mid-afternoon? Finding time for eating a healthy breakfast?

MOLLY

I'm totally a late night snacker. My days tend to be pretty busy, and it's not unusual for me to get home at 5:30 having only eaten about 800 calories.  Then I have to eat dinner and a few snacks to get up to my 1700 calorie target.  Once I've eaten all that, sometimes it's really hard for me to stop.  I know I need to eat more during the day, but it's really hard during the school year.  Thankfully, yesterday was my last day of classes, so I'll have a lot more control over what and when I'm eating.

For me, it's definitely mid-late afternoon.  I tend to eat every few hours.  But in the afternoon I'm always butting up against the number of calories I need to leave for dinner and that's really the time of day when I get bored and restless, which for me means I want to eat.  Also, any time I am home alone is a potential problem, although I've really managed to avoid binging for so long I'm kind of hoping maybe I'm cured :)  Wishful thinking, perhaps...

MOLLY

Definitely night-time, especially if I'm bored.  There's nothing like channel surfing with a bowl of chocolate peanut butter cup ice cream and a box of cheez-its.

Yesterdays QOD-

Healthy- Seared Ahi Salad with wasabi vinagrette, small glass of wine

Unhealthy- Escargot, french bread to sop up the buttery garlic sauce, Steak medium rare with crab meat, blue cheese, butter, grilled mushrooms and onions, gorgonzola garlic mashed potatoes, and asparagus with butter and garlic. (I love cheese butter and garlic, can you tell?) A really good cannoli, and a bottle of fab red wine.

My most difficult challenge is eating breakfast (I am not a huge fan of breakfasty foods) and late night eating.  Weekends can also be a hurdle too.

Ok my goals

1. Drink more water

2. walk at least 1 hour a day

3. lose 10 pounds by august 1st

4. log my food intake everyday

Good luck everyone and I'll keep you posted!!!

QUESTION OF THE DAY FRIDAY JUNE 6

What time of day is your biggest challenge, when it comes to healthy eating? Late night snacking? Starving mid-afternoon? Finding time for eating a healthy breakfast?

MOLLY

Definitely late night snacking!!!

I fell off the wagon with a resounding THUD today.

I picked up the foster kittens this morning ... and they were delightfully bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at 7am. (Well, THEY were, I wasn't, lol!)  I was starving for some reason when I got home, so I ate extra calories (mostly protein) at breakfast (fell off the wagon) ... then proceeded to take a 3-hour nap! It seems my body was catching up on some much-needed rest.  I didn't have the healthiest of lunches (a blueberry fiber cake and one crunchy taco from Taco Bell) ... but I actually made up for some of the extra calories from breakfast.  Dinner was a purchased chinese chicken salad and some sliced beef, so I don't know the calories.... but the carbs were probably fine.  By 8pm my blood sugars were decent (142).... and then I went biking for 7 miles... after which my blood sugars had dropped to 92! (Which is really great, actually.)  I am a bit peeved at myself for falling off the healthy eating wagon today, and hope that the scale is kind to me anyways. (Heck, the scale doesn't cooperate even when I'm GLUED to the wagon, who am I kidding?)

I have a phone call into our gardener -- there's a broken sprinkler in the flower beds where he was working that (according to my neighbors) is shooting up an 8 ft geyser of water every night.... so I've asked him to let me know what it will cost to fix it. (It's snapped off and will need to be partially dug out -- I checked.) I assured my neighbors I'd call and have it looked at -- since it's causing a wee bit of flooding on their side of the fence.  Ahh.... my ongoing backyard renovation process continues to cost more money, doesn't it? Oh well ... what can you do?  I went and looked at shrubbery at a nursery today (I need 6 bushes for along the fence) .... I found a type I like (can't remember the name now, of course) ... but they were 18.99 each .... so once I remember the name I want to comparison shop at a few other places (probably by telephone.)  It started with an E ... and was your basic green shrubbery with small summertime pink flowers.

I haven't really gotten to communicate much with my wonderful DH today .... our schedules just don't seem to be meshing -- he's awake and working when I'm asleep, and he's asleep when I'm awake ... and he has very limited internet access and even MORE limited phone access. Still, I send him emails throughout the day so that he knows what I'm up to.... and when he does check his email he always sends a quick reply back so I know that he's read them.  I think of him a lot ... and really miss him, especially at night.  If he were here tonight I know he's hug me and tell me it's ok that I "fell off the wagon" today ... that he loves me very much and he's very proud of what I've accomplished.

(sigh)  I hate deployments.

QUESTION OF THE WEEKEND (JUNE 7 & 8)

What sorts of things do you like on your salad? Favorite dressings? Favorite things to add? Do you like unusual salads, or are you a pretty down-to-earth-basic salad eater?

 Great goals ... welcome aboard!!!

Hi All
I've been very busy with graduations and all this week and have really gone off the wagon.  I woke this morning with a food hangover and don't feel so well.  I wish I could remember this feeling the next time I throw caution to the wind.  However, what I've learned over the last year or so is that today is a new day and I can make better choices.

As far as the QOD: Snacking is my biggest challenge and I find it most difficult midday.  Like  Melly  I try to refrain from cutting into my dinner calories, however, that's often the time I tell myself "I want to eat what I want."  Oh the rebellion.

Today should be a busy day.  We bought 5 new windows for our dining room and I will be helping to put those in (more like running around getting this and that).  This will probably get ugly, as we live in a 110 year old farm house where nothing is square.  I'm going to have to wear ear plugs so I don't have to listen to all of the complaining...

Have a good weekend-Dianne

Oh I like this question!

Field Greens, light balsamic vinigar dressing, feta cheese (just a little Wink), broccoli, cauliflower, grape tomatoes (better than cherries), garlic roasted pine nuts, one hard boiled egg crumbled, baby carrots, and sprouts.

I love almost all salads, but that one is my favorite.

Don't you just love "hang overs"? The more I learn to listen to my body, the more I learn from it. When you eat poorly, your body will tell you "Don't do that!" Wink

We all fall off the wagon occasionally. The important thing is to get back on and keep going. Hang in there.

Oh no you didn't!  This day looks pretty positive to me.  So maybe your menu wasn't the uber-perfect-clean eating that you usually do.  But, compare it to what you would probably have eaten BEFORE you started learning how to eat right!  If you're like me, it would have entailed a whole lot more than one taco from Taco Bell, as well as several desserts in there.  Instead, you ate with moderation and an eye toward overall healthiness, while having a slightly indulgent day.  Nothing to be ashamed of!

There's nothing wrong with relaxing the reins every now and then, as long as you don't let the horse run wild.  I think you did great!  As long as you get back into your regular routine on a daily basis, and only have an indulgent day every now and then, you are doing EXACTLY what you should do.  Living healthy so that you still have room for the occasional treat.

I believe life is all about balance and that includes giving yourself some little goodies every now and then.  We can't eat everything we want all the time and stay healthy, but if we eat healthy most of the time, we can be indulgent every now and then and it's good for us - heart and soul.  You only live once!

So pat yourself on the back. You did good!
