QUESTION OF THE DAY THURSDAY JULY 3

Are you nuts about nuts? Do you eat nuts? Nut butters? What about seeds? Sunflower seeds? Pumpkin seeds?  What do you DO with your nuts n' seeds?

MOLLY

I am indeed nuts about nuts.  I can't really think of a nut or seed that I don't like.  I eat them on salads and sandwiches (hummus, sunflower seed and veggie sammies) and I make my own nut butters.  I also really like baking with nuts and seeds.

There's not much new around here to report ... just another sunshiney summery sizzlin' Thursday here in sunny central California! It seems that hundreds of wildfires are still burning around the state, which doesn't seem to be putting a damper on people setting of noisy/smoky fireworks EARLY! (We have a couple of kitty cats that get SUPER SKITTERYaround this time of year ... poor things spend a lot of time looking FREAKED OUT and hiding in my closet!)

Anyway, I did some laundry today, my entire house is sparkling-clean, I watered my tomato plants, and I had my neighbors over this afternoon for some swimming.  I seem to be so excited about my wonderful DH coming home NEXT WEEKEND that I am having a hard time focusing on ANYTHING!!!

I don't have a lot of special plans for Friday July 4th ... just hanging around the house during the day, swimming, playing with kitty cats, and then sometime in the early evening I am heading over to a girlfriend's house to spend the night since it will be waaaaaay too smoky/air pollution-y to try to have the windows open at my house, and it's waaaaaay to hot out to not have the air conditioning running. (Don't mind me ... I am such a silly ... but I am not using my air conditioning until my wonderful DH comes home! So far, our hottest day has been 110 ... though we have five days in a row this next week of 106-108 forecast. I figured if he can stand it to be 120 in a war zone, I can stand it to be 108 here in California. Anyway, I haven't turned on the air conditioning YET!) Besides, being hot reminds me to PRAY FOR OUR TROOPS!

MUSIC TIME!!!

QOD JULY 2: Are you facing any dieting / healthy eating challenges for this upcoming HOLIDAY WEEKEND? (barbecues? parties? vacation? family gatherings?)

We're having a cookout on Friday with family but it shouldn't be too challenging.  We'll be doing burgers and chips but I'll have plenty of fresh veggies available as well. Then on Saturday we'll be going down to the river where they are having hydroplane boat races with lots of tempting food booths so that will be a small challenge. Only a small on because of the expense so I often am able to turn it down much easier!

QOD JULY 3: Are you nuts about nuts? Do you eat nuts? Nut butters? What about seeds? Sunflower seeds? Pumpkin seeds?  What do you DO with your nuts n' seeds?

I'm nuts about nuts & seeds.  I love them. However I tend to overeat them so I try to stay away from most nuts and seeds and only have them in other foods.  I'll occasionally toss chopped walnuts in my oatmeal or nuts in my homemade muffins. I especially like sunflower seeds on salad and sprinkled on top of cottage cheese.

Hope everyone has a Happy 4th of July!!!

QUESTION OF THE DAY -- FOURTH OF JULY!

Do you eat hot dogs?

Do you eat apple pie?

(And do you like baseball?)

MOLLY

Love all three!  And why is it when I go to the ballgames it seems to be the night they have $1 hotdogs and $1 drumsticks???

Happy Fourth!

I definitely don't eat hot dogs, I prefer a rustic French apple tart to apple pie, and I really don't like baseball.

QOD -- FOURTH OF JULY! Do you eat hot dogs? Do you eat apple pie? (And do you like baseball?)

I eat hot dogs but not very often (maybe 4-5 times a year). I'm more of a burger person.  Apple pie - I love it especially if it's still a little warm (on the rare occasion that I allow myself to have it I put mine in the microwave to warm slightly so it tastes like it just came out of the oven).  Baseball - I can take it or leave it.  I tend to enjoy the local teams more - ie the little league teams & high school teams - over professionals.  I just think professionals athletes are paid way more than they are worth and thus don't enjoy watching them as much.

Do you eat hot dogs? Do you eat apple pie?

(And do you like baseball?)

No, yes, and no.  Not so Americanized, am I?

QUESTION OF THE WEEKEND (JULY 5 and 6)

OK, we're 50 days down for our 75 Days of Summer ... how are you doing? What will you change for the next 25 days?

MOLLY

Hotdogs? Well, I can take or leave them but really like the Kosher kind.

Applepie? I prefer cobbler but again, I can take or leave it.

Baseball? I enjoy the game but I wouldn't call myself a big sports fan. I really enjoy it when it's a family event.

OK, we're 50 days down for our 75 Days of Summer ... how are you doing? What will you change for the next 25 days?

Wow, we are already 2/3 the way through??? It's going fast. I'm doing pretty good actually. Well, my vacation set me back a little bit. I still lost but only one pound for the week. I'm determined to stay on target and keep increasing the workouts as I get stronger.

I've been doing pretty good.  I'm about 5 lbs from my end of July goal of 240. Two of my summer goals were to eat out less and to eat more fruit. I've not been doing very good on these two, so I've set a goal for July of only eating out 6 times and will try to incorporate more fruit in my meals/snacks.

I've been good about getting exercise and will continue to work on that and on increasing the amount.  I'm also getting ready to start adding in some weight training.

during these days i went to 199 lbs (i have started at 262 in january), but had a few nor-so-wise days and gained to about 206. so my goal is to get back to my healthy eating (have been doing good for the past 2 days, so hopefully it is happening already).

during these days, i have learned new things about food and about how my body responds to some of the foods. also i have bought some good quality cosmetics, went to two manicures and tried on lots of clothes (have not bought too much as my budget is a buit tight after buying many new items during the spring).

also during this challenge i went to see my eng¨do and she was very happy about my weight loss, and the bloodwork (quite extensive) turned out GREAT, so it confirmed that eating this way is very good for me.

No, NO, NO, lol

We seriously only have 25 more days?  Holy cow.  Well, I've been doing pretty well, probably getting bruised everytime I fall off the wagon... I'm back on, and trying really hard to lose 6 - 10 more pounds.  I'm going to do EVERYTHING my personal trainer tells me to do, and I'm going to eat more on the weekends (I work on the weekends and burn about 1000 - 1600 calories per shift).  I'm going to cut my fat down to 30 - 45 grams like I had meant to do in the first place, and improve in any ways I can.
How time flys

The last 50 days have brought ups and downs.  Although I haven't lost weight I've spent some time reflecting on my eating behaviors.

I can see that this time of year is much more difficult to stay in any type of routine.  This has caused some new challenges for me as I learn to relax a bit and not feel like I've thrown in the towel if I don't go to the gym and get my 50 minutes of cardio in.  Unfortunately I seem to find myself in the mindset that exercise has to look a certain way or it's not real.

I've tried a few different things to see what will work best for me and I'm still experimenting with this.  I'm thinking that if I can keep weight loss in a cycle that would be ok too.  For instance if I maintain for a few months and then begin weight loss again and just continue to repeat the cycle.

I get a bit concerned that I will slowly slip into old habits though and not get back on cycle.  Perhaps if I have some guidelines around food and exercise, even while maintaining, that might keep me on track.

I guess that about covers my last 50 days.  Here's to the next 25!

July is going better than June, that's for sure.  It's nice to have more time for cooking well and exercising.  Since May 18, I've lost about 12 pounds.  I'm just a few pounds away from having lost 40 pounds, which feels good.  I'm not really planning on changing much in the next 25 days.  I definitely want to hit that 40 pound milestone, and I'm well on my way to reaching by goal of being 230 or less by the end of the summer.  I guess the main thing I need to work on is not being so hard on myself.  Especially on my birthday, I need to relax and enjoy myself without worrying so much about what I'm eating.

I don't really like hot dogs too much, unless they are grilled outside or almost burnt at a weenie roast!

I do like apple pie, but rarely eat it.  When I do I like it warm with vanilaa ice cream! YUM!

I like to watch baseball if I am there at a live game, otherwise I get bored easily.

I could be doing so much better, but I did try on a size smaller pair of pants and got them on!  They are still a little tight for what I like but they went on & buttoned!  For the last 25 days, I plan on kicking it up with my exercise,  I tend to  "forget" to do it some days, and this holiday weekend has been one of those times.  I also gained back 1 pound over the long weekend, so it has me down a bit.  But, I WILL get it back off plus about 10 more I'm hoping, at least!

Not hotdogs but occasionally an italian sausage or a brat.  But didn't on July 4 this year.    The kids are out of town, so we didn't cook out or do fireworks or anything.  We did go see WALL*E, though.  Very cute movie, enjoyed it.

Not the biggest fan of apple pie, actually I never have really eaten pie too much.  Which is weird because I love cobbler (which is basically pie with the crust layered in ...), but again, not apple.  Blackberry.  I'd be all about some blackberry pie.  Mmmmmm.

I like baseball if I'm at the park watching it live.  Not on TV so much.  Actually, all sports are better live and in person.  :)

QUESTION OF THE DAY -- MONDAY JULY 7

What (if anything) do you like to grill/barbecue?
