I totally talk to my scale.  Before I step on, I tell my scale the highest weight I'd be willing to accept (in a very threatening tone).  Then I use a combination of threatening and cajoling as I repeatedly step on and off.  Sometimes the scale gets a thank you, sometimes the scale gets Russian swear words.  It all depends on the number.

QUESTION OF THE DAY -- FRIDAY JULY 25

OK, fess up ... do you talk to your scale?

MOLLY

I totally talk to my scale...I say "o.k. here we go, another weigh-in, let's hope for another weight loss, so I don't have to hurt you when I step on you anymore."

OK, fess up ... do you talk to your scale?

MOLLY

Sometimes I am like... "C'mon, no no no no... Less than 165... please..."

QUESTION OF THE WEEKEND -- JULY 26-27

I'd spend them SO unglamorously.

First, I'd get some extra sleep.  Then I'd pay bills, setting a big chunk aside for an emergency fund.  I considered just saving all of it, but why not have a little fun?

Then, some shopping.  More supplies for my winemaking hobby, some fancy yarn for knitting projects, some nice fabric for costumes, books from my favorite bookstore, and some foodstuffs that can be a bit pricey for me.  I might even go to the liquor superstore and get some top shelf brands for my bar, then have some people over for dinner and drinks.

The things I spend my time on wouldn't change - I'd just spend a little more time on each.

I'd be left with stuff that will last me quite a while, and money to use later if needed.  What could be better?

i would go to iceland! i love scandinavia

Guess what we just did?  We just bought two plane tickets to Anchorage, Alaska for August 10-19, 2008!  Yep, we had such a nice time in Alaska in May on our cruise, that we decided to return to Alaska for 9 days in August! Of course, we didn't go to Anchorage on our cruise, but that's where we're headed in just a few weeks!  Why Anchorage? Well, it's one of the easiest Alaska cities to fly to (even from California), and we're using our $50 companion fare from Alaska Airlines that we got for signing up in May for an Alaska Airlines Visa. (The ticket is about $800 ... so getting it for $50 is quite a substantial savings!)

Where are we staying?? Well... we're going to be pretty adventurous in this respect!  We have reservations for three nights (Aug 10-11-12) at Elmendorf Air Force Base ... after that we will only know day-to-day if we can still stay on base. BUT, we may also be able to stay at the Army's Fort Richardson -- but THEY only take reservations three days in advance, lol! So, we're hoping between those two adjacent military bases, we'll be ok -- but my wonderful DH is also going to make reservations at a nearby hotel for the 13th-19th, just in case.

What's the weather like?  Well, looks like the highs (the HIGHS) will be in the 50s and 60s and rainy .... is that totally AWESOME, or what??? (Can you tell we've had too much hot and dry and sunny weather here in California and in Iraq??)  And sunset there is about 10:45pm .... pretty nifty, huh? Hard to imagine more than 19 hours of daylight each day ... we're pretty jazzed! Hmmm.... guess I will need to get out my socks, my bluejeans, and (gasp) t-shirts, huh? (Can you tell I've been living in shorts and tank tops ALL SUMMER???)

I think I'd recover the antique couch my parents left me. That may sound boring to most people but I think I would really like to do that. Of course it wouldn't (or shouldn't) take $3000 to recover the couch. But I'd probably put the rest aside for a rainy day. -- Well, I might buy a few new clothes too. That is after I loose my weight. Wink

Molly, that sounds WONDERFUL! My sister went on a cruise to Alaska last year and she loved it. I think she has been several times. Her husband is a travel agent. One of these days I'd love to go with her. I'm sure you will have a wonderful time. You certainly deserve it. Congratulations!

I've been slacking again with keeping up on the question of the day so here goes:

QUESTION OF THE DAY -- TUESDAY JULY 22 (Pretend for a moment you don't care about calories.)  Are you an ice cream "purist" (just ice cream, NO cone, NO toppings), or do you like "stuff" on your icecream? Hot fudge? Caramel? Butterscotch? Nuts? Sprinkles? Fruit? And what flavor of ice cream is your favorite????

If it's ice cream I LOVE it.  My favorite toppings would be hot fudge and/or caramel with nuts

QUESTION OF THE DAY WED JULY 23 (Without going into details about who you would choose/vote for) ... If the presidential elections could be held in a few weeks -- rather than way off in November -- would you be ok with holding the elections sooner rather than later?

Sooner or later wouldn't matter to me.  Although sooner would mean less political ads on tv to watch.

QUESTION OF THE DAY -- FRIDAY JULY 25 OK,  fess up ... do you talk to your scale

Not usually but on occasion I'll try to persuade it to show me a lower number as I get on and off several times!

QUESTION OF THE WEEKEND -- JULY 26-27 You've been given $3000 and three days off .... how do you spend your money and your time?

I'd probably use part of it to go on a trip.  I've always wanted to go to Alaska, Washington/Oregon area and up to Maine. While on my trip I'd spend my time sightseeing and walking/hiking. The evenings would be spent quietly catching up on some reading.

I would use the $3000 to go to Tahiti. Granted I'd need more than that, but it would be a good start.
I'd pay my student loans and my credit cards and then I'd sleep for three days.  I'm boring, but I'm realistic.

I would take a honeymoon trip!  I've been married twice & never had a honeymoon.  Cancun, Mexico sounds good to me!!!

Yeah, sleep sounds good. My retirement account always needs bolstering, plus 3 days is not long enough for a nice relaxing trip...Maybe new appliances or new floors...something I could look at and touch.

QUESTION OF THE DAY MONDAY JULY 28

How close are you to the weight goal you set for yourself at the beginning of this 75 day Countdown Adventure?  Doing anything this week to "kick it up a notch?"

oh snap, we've only got a few days left.

QUESTION OF THE DAY MONDAY JULY 28

How close are you to the weight goal you set for yourself at the beginning of this 75 day Countdown Adventure?  Doing anything this week to "kick it up a notch?"

I wanted to get down to 158 and I'm down to 160.0.  Kicking it up to lose 2 more pounds might just be exactly what I need!

Ugh.  Only 1/2 pound loss for last week.  Still...better than nothing, right??

Does anyone else have a funky scale, where, depending on where and how you stand on it, it weighs you differently?  (Like leaning forward, I'm 1-2 pounds heavier and leaning backward, I'm 1-2 pounds lighter?)  I try standing right in the middle every time, but it's difficult to know if I'm getting an accurate reading.  I just want a consistent reading!!

Since I started with this group late, I didn't really set any goals.  But...I have been trying to walk extra at least 4 times a week.  Which is more than I was doing and I suppose it could be considered 'kicking it up a notch'.  I know it is going to be more and more difficult to drop the pounds and get the fat in my thighs to move away!!

Scale woes: oh ye-e-e-s. I've never owned a scale before, never used a digital scale until this one. It weighs differently every time it resets. I weigh once a week, and have to get on and off many times until 3 consecutive weights come out the same. I don't know if I'm leaning or what it is.

Not as close as I hoped to be, but I had to make some adjustments to get back on track, so I think overall I am doing well.  I do want to kick it up a notch and see some better results though.

I started late in this challenge, so I don't think I set particular goals.  However, I'm happy with what I've accomplished - I'm almost 1/4 of the way to my final goal.
