MON AUG 11:  Can you go to the movies without munching on popcorn?

Long as I have a soda, i'm fine without anything else!

MON AUG 11:  Can you go to the movies without munching on popcorn?

I don't usually go to movies at movie theaters, because I can't just sit and watch something on a screen for 2 hours.  When I watch movies at home, I'm always working on a project, reading, on the internet, or doing floor exercises.  I can make it through a two hour play without popcorn, so I don't see why I couldn't survive a movie.

MON AUG 11:  Can you go to the movies without munching on popcorn?

YEP! I do it all the time! As long as I have something to drink, I don't need anything else. :)

FRI AUG 08: What's your favorite hot or cold breakfast cereal?

Fruit loops with cream...or that was my favorite the last time that I ate cereal for breakfast...Oatmeal on occasion with milk and frozen raspberries is probably closer now...a sprinkle of cinnamon.

SAT AUG 09: Great debate: What condiments to you put on a sandwich?

Sandwich?  Mustard...I don't eat sandwiches much these days...the bread gets stale too quickly.

SUN AUG 10: What sort of restaurant is your biggest dieting downfall?

Anyplace that has a chocolate mousse or chocolate lava cake...also mozzarella sticks..yummy!

MON AUG 11: Can you go to the movies without munching on popcorn?

Easily, but if someone with me gets some I am eating some!

TUE AUG 12: What's your favorite diet-friendly restaurant (or type of restaurant?)

Chipotle...I can order from almost any restaurant, but I prefer someplace where I have more control over what goes into the food.

I haven't answered a QOD in a while. I guess it's just not the same with Molly gone. But I decided to do one today and it's funny the one that was asked for today because it's so perfect for me today.

<<WED AUG 13: Are you doing the same old exercises/physical activities -- or have you considered (or started) something new?>>

I've recently started a tiny bit of jogging during my morning walk. Yesterday I ran a total of 16 minutes and was very proud of myself. But I'm REALLY feeling it today. It's just sore muscles but they are very sore in my thighs especially. Which is good I guess because my thighs need toning more than anything.

Anyway, because I'm sore, I'm taking it easy today. I still walked (3 miles) but didn't run. I will see if I feel like running tomorrow. If not, as soon as I do feel like it, I will.

I also recently finished my water aerobics class (because school started) and so I'm looking for something interesting to replace it. But I haven't found it yet.

How has everyone else been doing????

Day Three in Alaska (Tuesday Aug 12) was our coolest, most overcast day yet. We headed to the beautiful Alaska Zoo in Anchorage in the morning, where we spent three hours truly enjoying ourselves! My favorites? The snow leopard gets first choice, followed by a cheeky river otter, the polar bears (I have a thing for polar bear butts, it seems), the red fox, and a really nifty red mushroom we saw growing in the bushes. Then we had a scrumptious lunch at Sullivan's Steak House downtown (gotta love eating low carb -- more  steak!) before heading south east around the Turnagain Arm (a big inlet) to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. On the way there we stopped alongside the Seward Highway to watch a large pod of adult and baby beluga whales frolicking in the water -- truly the coolest thing EVER! At the Conservation Center, my favorites were the moose and the brown bears, though the black bears, caribou and elk were great, too.

We leave Anchorage on Wed Aug 13 to spend two nights in Seward (120 miles south).  On the 13th we're going to the Seward Sea Life Center and on the 14th we're going on an all day "Wildlife Viewing" cruise.  On Friday Aug 15 we drive to Kenai to spend a few hours with Cruebug (yay! Go Calorie Count!) before spending Friday night in Girdwood. On Saturday Aug 16 we drive from Girdwood to Whittier, where we catch a 6 hour Glacier Cruise of Prince William Sound. We spend Saturday night in Girdwood, too. On Sunday the 17th, we head back to Anchorage and Elmendorf AFB ... where for the next 2 days we want to visit the Botanical Gardens and the Eagle River Nature Center. We fly home on the 19th.

TUE AUG 12:  What's your favorite diet-friendly restaurant (or type of restaurant?)

I think all the restaurants I eat in can be diet friendly, but my favorite has to be Thai restaurants.  So many veggies, fresh tofu, and lots of spices.

WED AUG 13: Are you doing the same old exercises/physical activities -- or have you considered (or started) something new?

I'm getting the majority of my exercise from walking and hiking this summer.  In the winter, I do more aerobics and stuff like that.  I do strength training all year.  I don't really have plans to start anything new, but if something fun comes my way, I'm totally game.

Good to see you're having fun, Molly.

THU AUG 14: Do you ask for nutritional information at restaurants? (Or check online yourself?)

I usually check online when I can. I hadn't thought to ask for the information at the restaurant but that's a good idea.

To my surprise Whataburger had a very user friendly way to check the nutrition content of their food. And to my surprise some of the "healthier" restaurants (like Jason's Deli) were higher calorie than I expected (at least on their usual menu items).

It sure makes eating out easier when I plan ahead by looking at all this online before going.

THU AUG 14: Do tyou ask for nutritional information at restaurants? (Or check online yourself?)

I've started Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Argentine Tango dancing since I started CC...but since I already did martial arts and ballroom dancing I'm not sure that they count as new.

I don't ask for nutritional info at restaurants, I either look it up online or guesstimate.

WED AUG 13: Are you doing the same old exercises/physical activities -- or have you considered (or started) something new?

I'm pretty much doing the same things with a few more outdoors activities added in...a lot more sweating that's for sure!

THU AUG 14: Do you ask for nutritional information at restaurants? (Or check online yourself?)

I have never asked for nutritional information, but I have asked for ingredients before...my stepson is allergic to onions & mushrooms.

Great pictures Molly, Are you a photographer?  Keep them coming!

FRI AUG 15: OK, 'Fess up... have you ever tried a fad diet?

Nope, never have. But that doesn't mean I knew how to "diet" right. I had a lot to learn! Before joining CC, I never actually did a diet of any kind. I just cut back on what I ate and exercised if I was trying to loose. Problem was that I would cut back too much, loose quickly but then gain it all back! I didn't totally understand the whole energy in/ energy out thing until I started learning about it here on CC. And boy does it make a difference! Thank you CC!

FRI AUG 15: OK, 'Fess up... have you ever tried a fad diet?

Well, let's see

  • for a day I did the Progresso soup diet.  My dad had lost quite a bit of weight simply eating 4 cans of Chicken Barley soup a day...I couldn't last through that.
  • I signed up for but never did one of the beach body diets.
  • I briefly flirted with the low carb diet...a week?
  • I took diet pills for two days.

CC I've done for over a year now and it definitely works!

FRI AUG 15: OK, 'Fess up... have you ever tried a fad diet?

Haha...

3 days of Atkins Diet
2 weeks of diet pills.

FRI AUG 15: OK, 'Fess up... have you ever tried a fad diet?

Yes!!

I tried the Atkins diet for 2 days, hated not having all my veggies, I prefer veggies over meat any day!

Diet pills (Dexatrim) for a week, did lose a few pounds, but couldn't remember to take the pills on time before meals.

And tried Weight Watchers through a friend (using her stuff) it lasted for a few weeks, but then I lost the thing to count out the points with and got tired of going to the computer to calculate everything before I ate it.

CC is the only thing that has worked for me long term so far!

TUE AUG 12:  What's your favorite diet-friendly restaurant (or type of restaurant?)

Believe it or not fast food because I can order just a hamburger and side salad w/fat free dressing. At most restaurants they give you way too much and I still tend to think in terms of cleaning my plate - gotta get over that.

WED AUG 13: Are you doing the same old exercises/physical activities -- or have you considered (or started) something new?

So far I'm still doing the same thing (stationery bike) but I'm getting ready to start doing some weights (just got a bowflex this summer for my hubby) and once it cools off I want to start walking and slowly going to jogging/running.

THU AUG 14: Do you ask for nutritional information at restaurants? (Or check online yourself?)

I've never actually asked but I often will look it up online before we go or at least afterwards so that I can log it.

FRI AUG 15:OK, 'Fess up... have you ever tried a fad diet?

Lets see, there was Atkins (or a altered form) which I was able to stick with for about 2 weeks and lost about 20 lbs but I missed the bread/pasta too much and ended up gaining everything (and then some back). Other than that I'd always cut calories way to low and over do on the exercise. Then I'd end up gaining everything back because I would stop the exercise and start eating normally again.  With the help of CC I've been able to see that I don't have to cut my calories drastically and that even light exercise is helping me to lose the weight and keep it off.

SAT AUG 16: What are your 5 favorite spices right now?

cayenne, cumin, Mrs Dash original, black pepper, cinnamon - I have lots of spices in  my cabinet I just need to get adventurous and try out some new combos.

SAT AUG 16: What are your 5 favorite spices right now?

Garlic, lemon pepper, mrs. dash, paprika, some bbq rub stuff that I got at Sams club that i cant think of what it is called right now. lol

I am going to go ahead with tomorrow's QOD since I will be gone all day/night.

SUN AUG 17:  Do you snack in between meals? Are they planned/scheduled?

I snack sometimes between lunch & dinner, it's never planned out though.

SUN AUG 17:  Do you snack in between meals? Are they planned/scheduled?

Pears.  But only when I can find them.  So only scheduled when I can find them.  Dessert on the other hand.......
