I'd say that overall I had a good Memorial Day Weekend.  I had my splurge meal on Sunday and had popcorn at the movies on Monday, but I planned for both of these and should have still had a burn.  I did feel like I ate extra at dinner last night, but given my strenuous workout yesterday, I should have still had about a 500 calorie deficit.  I think I was craving protein because my ttom is coming.

On my goals front, I checked out 3 new exercise classes this weekend, like I planned.  The first two were great, an anusara-inspired yoga class and an Athletic Conditioning class on Sunday.  However, I've been having sporadic problems with my left leg, not sure if it's shin splints or what, and so I only made it halfway through the Zumba class I tried on Monday.  My lower leg started to really hurt with all the jumping, so I finally begrudgingly decided to leave.  It was really rather embarassing, I kept thinking everyone would think I was leaving because it was too hard, which was NOT the case at all.  Of course, this was more than a theory, because there was this guy watching the class outside of the door and when I left, he actually said to me:  "Too hard???"  I huffily told him that no, it was not, that I have an injury which the class irritated, and stormed off limpily towards the Elliptical machines which have no impact and which felt ok.  It made me so angry I was complaining about this guy's rudeness all day to my boyfriend who logically asked what on earth the guy was doing standing there watching the class to begin with.

Anyway, my leg is still hurting a bit today as well so I guess I'm going to not run for the rest of the week and just do no impact type exercise like the stationary bike or elliptical.  It is soooooooooooooo frustrating.  I mean, it's crazy that I want to run and I can't because of my leg.  I got really down about it yesterday but my boyfriend was so supportive, telling me I'm not going to lose my fitness level just by not running for a week, especially if I keep working out every day, it's just depressing.  So that's causing me to feel a bit down.

As for when I weigh, I pretty much weigh every day.  It allows me to see the fluctuations in my weight which I've been learning not to let bother me.  Unfortunately, my ttom is about to start, so my weight today was the same as my weight on Friday, which I'm betting is water weight.  Probably not going to lose anything this week because of ttom so I probably won't get to see the 160s until June, which is also disappointing, but at least they are right around the corner.

Great job everyone on getting through the holiday weekend with our determination and commitment intact.

Melanie

Glad to hear everyone had a pretty good Memorial Day weekend!  Good job, everybody!

Mine was fine too, with no real temptations.  We didn't have any parties or barbecues to go to, so it was just like a regular weekend with one extra day.  I did pick up some steaks for us to eat at home, and since I was doing it I could control size and how they were prepared, etc.  It was yummy!

Question of the Day - weigh day

I like Wednesday mornings.  It's mid-week, which gives me a little time to recover if I had a challenging weekend and is just generally convenient.  I'm a firm believer in the "weighing no more than once a week" thing, and so far it's worked very well for me.
20 miles!  Way to go!

I didn't have too much of a problem for Memorial Day.  I was working!

Glad everyone had a great weekend!  :)

I did OK this Memorial Day weekend, not great, not bad, just OK. Friday I slept in (I took the day off work), and babysat my nephew for about 6 hours. That little 9 month old ball of energy wore out both me and my hubby!! Whew, he's lucky he's adorably sweet! But we went out to eat that night with DH's sister and BIL, they were running late so we ended up having an appetizer while we waited. :(

Saturday I went garage saleing in the morning with a friend, then my DHa nd I dug up rocks for about 4-5 hours. We're preparing to put in a patio, and we're doing the labor ourselves. Hopefully the rest of the utilities will come out and mark their buried lines, and we'll be able to start digging this week.

Sunday we had a few people over for a mini cookout. So I had to clean the house, not much of a workout, but it's something. I had too much chips and dip, but didn't really overeat too badly.

Monday I actually slept in really late :). I did a whole lot of nothing. It was really warm and muggy here, so I waited until 8:00 to head out for a jog with the dog, we did a little over 2.5 miles. yahoo!

Questions I missed:

QUESTION OF THE DAY ... SOMETHING'S FISHY!

Do you like fish? Do you eat fish? What sort of fish will you eat? And do you take a fish-oil supplement? (What the heck, do you own fish?)

I like most fish, I really like salmon, shrimp (not cocktail, they're icky cold), and tilapia the best. i won't eat it raw, ewww. No supplements, and we don't own any fishies.

QUESTION OF THE WEEKEND ....

What special dieting challenges will you face (or did you face) this Memorial Day Weekend? And what's your plan for dealing with those challenges?

I didn't plan ahead for anything, which is probably why I overindulged. But at least I got some exercise in! They probably evened out.

QUESTION OF THE DAY (MONDAY MAY 26)

Do you have a favorite day of the week for getting weighed?

I weigh every day, but generally record on Thursdays or Fridays. But I feel like I need to see the daily fluctuations to be able to understand why they happen.

Question of the Day (Tuesday 5/27) ...

Do you tend to eat the same basic breakfast every day, most of the time, or do you switch it around a lot?  Are you happy with your breakfast?

I am very happy with my current breakfast ... and I eat the exact same thing every single day (until I change!)

  • One cup Fiber One Cereal (120 calories)
  • One half-cup unsweetened vanilla Almond Breeze (20 calories)
  • One Western Bagel Perfect 10 bagel (140 calories)
  • Two tablespooons Eggplant Hummus (35 calories)

And that's 39 grams of fiber in just my breakfast!!! Laughing  The Perfect 10 bagel is a high protein (18g), low carb (10 net carbs), high fiber (9g) bagel ... I order them online from www.Westernbagel.com since I can't find that type locally.

I tend to eat the same thing every morning.  Mostly out of convenice.  Right now I'm in a "instand oatmeal" phase.  But that'll change cuz I don't want hot cereal when it's 90 degrees outside.  Lol.

I eat the same breakfast almost every day.  It's two egg whites and one yolk, scrambled with a cup of spinach on an english muffin spread with laughing cow cheese.  Every once in a while, I'll have cereal and soymilk for breakfast, but usually that's more of an afternoon snack for me.

I almost always have a FiberOne chewy bar and an RC cola for breakfast.  I know, I know... but the RC is the one real treat that I allow myself on a regular basis and if you knew how many of those I used to drink a day, just having one each morning is a huge improvement!  My problem is that it's really the only drink I like - apparently I'm not a picky eater but I AM a picky drinker.  The only diet-friendly drink I've found that I like (besides water) is Fuze Slenderize Cranberry Raspberry and it's EXTREMELY difficult to find.  If I could get a steady supply of those I could drop the RCs, but until then....

On weekends occasionally I'll have waffles and strawberries for breakftast.  I had these frozen Kashi Heart to Heart Honey Oat waffles and I'd use diced strawberries as my topping.  Plus I have a good whole-wheat belgian waffle recipe (even my anything-healthy-hating boyfriend and his son like them) that I make when I feel like having a fancy breakfast.  One of those ends up being only a little bit higher in calorie than the two little bitty frozen ones and is bigger and yummier, also topped with fresh strawberries.

I find that on weekends I'm not as good about having my snacks every couple of hours, so I end up spending more calories on meals - like having belgian waffles for breakfast!

Hi All-
I'm behind a QOD- I like to weigh myself on Weds mornings.  I don't have a scale in the house and Wednesdays are my days off so I go to the gym bright and early.  Though my weight loss is painfully slow these days and I see a loss only every 2 weeks or so.

I do tend to eat the same things for breakfast.  I try to stick to 300 or so calories and typically includes: cereal of some sort, fruit and protein.  I really enjoy eating breakfast these days and usually it helps me to get on a good track for the day.

My weekend was so so eating wise.  I'm back on track today and am attempting to eat my snacks in a more controlled way.  I still haven't completely broken the cycle of opening the cabinet and mindlessly munching away.  I buy almonds in bulk and tend to keep going back for small handfuls rather than weighing/counting.  I really want to work on this.   Molly's 20 mile bike ride has inspired me to get myself to the gym.  Have a good evening-Dianne

First post here!  Trying to get my but in gear!

Great Start to a great post Mollymouser!

I joined yesterday, but will answer today's question.

I LOVE Quaker Oatmeals new Simple Harvest Brown Suger & Pecan Oatmeal! YUM! Otherwise, I will have a Whey Chocolate/Strawberry Shake in the Morning.

Usually the Shake fills me up more - with 19 g of Protein! I use Chocolate Whey powder from BioChem.  Makes a GREAT Protein Shake with Skim Milk and I add Strawberries for a little extra fiber and taste!Tongue out

Memorial Day Weekend...didn't get as much exercise on Sunday and Monday as I normally would, but that's okay we all need a break now and then and I needed the time for more fun things.  I probably evened out on calories, but I didn't log either day.  Sunday I had sushi with tempura crab and hot chocolate for dessert (kid's size).  Monday I went to a BBQ and had a bunch of appetizers (sausages, spinach dip, chips) and I brought my new high fiber and protein pumpkin muffins which were way better than the chocolate cake and key lime pie for dessert.

My favorite day of the week to weigh myself is any day that my weight goes down, even by a little bit.  I'm not picky.

I usually have the same breakfast smoothie (1 cup non-fat yogurt, 1 cup mango juice, 1 scoop vanilla protein powder) everyday.  Sometimes I skip breakfast, have coffee with protein powder and eat an early lunch and a late lunch.  Those are not usually my best days.

I'm so NOT a morning person - hurries me to come down and make coffee LOL so it's a protein shake - chocolate or vanilla - with a cup of skim milk. Sometimes I'll throw in strawberries or a piece of a banana in the vanilla one. If I'm really pressed for time and have to eat at work it's a SB peanut butter protein bar with Smuckers natural peanut butter spread on top. Occasionally I'll have Greek yogurt with cranberry walnut Frisco and a drizzle of honey but don't usually take the time to mess with it - cause I got to measure everything so I can log it! LOL

MOLLY

Occasionally, I'll switch from my routine breakfast but for the most part I have one of 2 breakfasts.  I'll either have oatmeal with a little sf syrup and 2 T flax seed or peanut butter  OR a smoothie made with fat free vanilla yogurt, strawberries, and peaches.

Right now I've been having the hot oatmeal but with the warming days I'll switch over to the smoothie which I make with semi-thawed strawberries it is extra thick and tastes very close to a strawberry milkshake.

I need to find ways to add more protein but for the most part these two meals will hold me from breakfast around 6am until lunch around noon (I'll occasionally have a string cheese or piece of fruit as a snack).

I really do eat the same basic breafast (s) every day. I always think about switching it up, but they just make me too happy! This morning I did my oatmeal + 2 tsp almond butter + 1/2 banana +cinnamin, and then I always have milk in my coffee or on the side. Sometimes, if I know we're having a light dinner, I'll throw some orange juice in my oatmeal. It's amazing, it has just the right amount of sugar and acidity! If I don't want something hot, then I have the exact same thing with 1/2 cup kashi golean crunch and 1/2 cup milk. : ) It's so good, and the almond butter keeps me full all morning!

We have tons of frozen blueberries because we have like twenty bushes going down our driveway and we pick thousands of them during the summer (it is hell. SC is hot, and picking blueberries for hours daily becomes a chore really fast!) so if I feel like mixing it up I'll throw those and some raspberries in, but...I mostly stick to my average breakfast.

The few times I've tried to switch it up, I haven't been nearly as satisfied!

I LOVE THIS ANSWER!!!! Laughing

I had a hard time getting up this morning, I wonder if it was the 20 miles I biked yesterday? LOL! Maybe I am just getting older!!! Anyway, once I did get up and get dressed I did a load of laundry (I even folded it and put it away instead of abandoning it in the dryer like I usually do!) Then I ran some much-needed errands. (I try to save them up and combine them to save on time and gas!)

First stop was PetSmart to buy cat food for our kitties, the foster kittens, and Limpy our front porch feral kitty. At the pet store I saw the cutest pugly-wugly dog (I secretly like pugs) and had a nice chat with the cashier about cats. Next stop was Trader Joe's where I stocked up on veggies, Fiber cakes, hummus and egg white salad.  Third stop was filling up my wonderful DH's Explorer with gas ... OH MY GOSH IT'S $4.29 A GALLON!!!! .... once I got over that sticker shock, I headed to my final destination: Smart n' Final where I bought eggs, paper plates, salsa and garlic.

After lunch I went biking again ... to a local park and beyond. I saw lots of frogs (they were hopping all over the bike trail ... I tried not to squoosh any), a half dozen bunnies (love those white bunny butts), lots of Canada Geese and goslings, a verrry cool hawk sitting on a post, many squirrels, ducks, geese, robins, jays, mockingbirds, cats and dogs. I went biking again after dinner.

All told, today I biked 17 miles!!!! (Think tomorrow I will take a much-needed  break, LOL!)

I did "speak" with my wonderful DH today via email and Instant Messenger ... he's 10 hours later there than I am here, so we're finding our schedules aren't meshing very well... of course. The bikes we shipped over have arrived, but some assembly is needed. I am glad they are there since it will give him some transportation to get around better. Otherwise, we mainly chat about what I've been up to since he's not allowed to chat about what he's been up to.  (By the way, he said thanks for the good wishes, hellos and prayers from y'all!)

My plans for tomorrow? I think a trip to the Post Office to mail off two more care packages for my wonderful DH, then I need to go get his Explorer smogged. I may bike in the morning and save those tasks for the afternoon .... we'll see how much energy I have!  I am hoping the scale will have moved a bit ... it didn't this morning, which was a bit disappointing since I biked so much! Oh well, my official weigh in day isn't until June 1, anyway.

(Did you do drink some?)

Hi everyone, the weekend went off pretty good for me. I did eat a lot, but I didn't eat any bread, and that's a plus for me.. More like a yay me.. I did do a few veggies wraps with my grilled chicken. So I ate pretty well and healthy. I felt that day was never going to end. I was upset by seeing a re-run of all my children, and I wanted to see what was going to happen with Jessie.. Anyway. My weekend was okay..

Question for 5/26. What time of the week I like to weigh, Monday's are good for me. I can really see where I'm at in the begining of the week, and then again on Thursday's to see if I have any weight lost. Sometimes I win on both days and sometimes I don't.

Answer for 5/27. I do not have the same breakfast. I have 4 I choice from during the week. I don't stick with the same thing everyday. I just don't want to get borded out of my mind.

I see that everyone is doing great. Biked 17 miles.. Molly, you rock lady.. You keep up the good work. I ran 4 miles today, and I should have pushed myself for 5, I guess 5 will be on in my sights for tomorrow. You all take care.. Keep up the good work..

WELCOME NEW FRIENDS GLAD TO HAVE YA!

Breakfast question:

Well, I typically have two breakfasts due to my schedule.  My commute is around 1 hour and 10 minutes or so, a few minutes longer if I'm coming from the gym.  I don't eat the same thing every day, but I do tend to have a few things I select from.   I typically get super hungry within a half hour of waking up (usually around 6:30-7). Most commonly, I'll eat a clif bar or balance bar in the morning before I leave or in the car on my way to work.   Sometimes, though, I will make something at home.  If I do that, it will either be one or two Kashi GoLean waffles (depending on how hungry I am) with either smart balance no-calorie butter spray or a bit of peanut butter or almond butter.  Sometimes, if I'm feeling motivated, I will make myself a slice of toast with one egg and one or two egg whites with a little bit of ketchup on top (I'm weird but I love ketchup on eggs). Or sometimes I will have a half-cup of fiber one with skim milk or almond breeze, whatever we have on hand.

Once I get to work, I usually will get hungry again by around 9-9:30 am.  At work, I will usually have one of three things:  some instant oatmeal of some sort (whatever I happen to have at the time), a fage yogurt with strawberry, or an apple with some almond butter or peanut butter.

I like everything I eat, but as you can see, I try to switch it up a bit.
