Awesome job! Keep up the good work!!!!!

Oh Oh Oh! Pick me Pick me! Can I join your group?

SW: 360+ (scale couldn't weigh me) Jan 2006

April 1st. 2008: 189.5 lbs.

Total lost= 170.5 pounds!

My goal by September 08= to weigh 160 pounds

Well, I'm not happy about it, but I am reporting it anyhow.  I'm so big, water retention is a huge issue and due to gout I cannot use water pills. :(

Today, I am 532 making a total loss is 6 measly pounds.  I had lost 20 during the first week...I think I might be eating too much still so I need to look into that, but any weight loss is good for me.

Agreed dondra and glad to know you are still aboard :D!  Ive noticed some who said they were having a tough time February have comeback strong in March.  April can be that comeback month for anyone not happy this month too!

Welcome Jody and wow, you have done some great work already.  Im sending a PM to your inbox to help me get you set up.

I am curious as to how age and/or medical condition corresponds to weight loss. Any comments?

Studies consistently show that as we age, our metabolism shifts and slows. Though 40 seems to be the magic number for most people, some people may experience an age-related metabolism slow down younger/older.  For me, it definitely hit around age 40. (I'm 43.)

Some medical conditions can definitely have an adverse impact on weight loss.... people with diabetes, underactive thyroids, insulin resistance, and PCOS all have a more difficult time with weight loss.

In addition, some medications can cause water retention, increased hunger, slow metabolism, or other side affects which can cause weight gain.

Finally, medical conditions which impair one's ability to be mobile, active and exercise (arthritis, cardiac problems, back problems, knee problems, asthma, etc.) would also have an adverse impact on weight loss.

All that being said, weight loss is still very possible for (a) people over 40; and (b) people with health conditions/issues.  I'm a 43-year-old Type 2 diabetic with an underactive thyroid, bad knees, asthma and diabetic neuropathy and I've lost 92 pounds in just over 7 months.  IT CAN BE DONE!

MOLLY

Hey guys!

My current weight is: 236.8 lbs

I took a few weeks off in March to eat anything I wanted while we moved and traveled. I had a good time, but of course I gained weight. Mainly water! I shot up to 244 lbs within 10 days, but I've been back on track since last Wednesday and I'm already down to 236.8 lbs this morning. I was down to 234 lbs about 10-14 days ago. No worries though. I feel that a break from counting calories and the ordinary is good every few months or so. I don't regret any of it and WILL do it again in the future. Laughing

My current weight is 242.3, I thought I did worse, but I see i lost almost 10 lbs this month, though think I must have weighed myself on a bloated morning last month!

Hope everyone has a good April.  I'm going away for the last 2 weeks, so just praying for a half decent month atleast.

Thanks safantasia, j3nn and everyone for you April 1 updates!

&nb sp;   Since our intial January 1st weighin
&nb sp;        Those who've weighed in for April 1st
&nb sp;             have lost a combined total weight:

       &nb sp;               &nb sp;   ****  452.1 lbs  *****
&nb sp;               &nb sp;        Lost in 3 months
       &nb sp;          &nb sp;            Jan 1st to April 1st
Thursday weekly weighin very close to Tuesday's 1st of the month one but happy - 335.9 to 334.5, nice followup last Thursday's .8 gain to 340.1.

Hope everyone is off to a good start for April and if we havent heard from you for April 1, let us know!

down 7 lbs this week!!!!!!!!!!!

100 lbs total lost since August 2007.. feels pretty great... Ive been having 5 small meals a day with a couple snacks averaging 1800-2000 cals a day and its really helping me out.. anybody stuck should maybe try this Ive lost 20 lbs in 4 weeks doing this after staying the same and gaining for the two previous months.. its so nice to see a positive result after being stuck for so long, I was starting to get very discouraged.. Im down 12 pant sizes (54 to 42) and shirts from (5xl to 3xl and even 2xl)

so Wow! my goal since I started is almost here.. Under 300 will be a very great day.. this thread, this site, and all of you have been such an inspiration thank you so much (esp. jayne, brett, and molly) thanks a million guys..

Keep up the goodwork everybody.. I will do the same!

jack, you are the man. way to go dude. i recently broke my plateau as well. it's all about keeping your body guessing. keep it up and continue to drop the pounds. it feels sooooo good.

-brett

Wow - that IS starting off April with a bang Jack!  An awesome loss and a major landmark (I went crazy when I hit 100 lost).  So exciting!!

Glad to hear your plateaus passed Brett.  Following plateaus has been some of my best losses as if my body or the scales apologetic for not giving me props I was due.

Dragged out the sewing machine.  I wear floor length dresses and as the weight has dropped, so has my dress lengths and some of them 'puddle' at the floor.   There is something very final about cutting the bottoms off and hemming them - like tossing out your fat clothes, acknowledging these will only be long enough at this or a lighter weight. Ive not had problem committing to losing but I decided keeping them at the longer length is a safety net I dont want.

OK, can someone please make my dumb scale move DOWNWARD?

That is all.

MOLLY

::looks for a cliff so Molly can send that rude scale seriously downward::

PS replied to you on SB :D

Wow - From 300s and now breaking through the 200 threshold, wonderful slainna!

I spent hours Friday night tearing apart my clothes closet.  I know have them in countdown order by size.  It was so exciting especially to discover how many more clothes I can wear now that I'd not have guessed that I could.  I wasnt able to place dates but some in particular I remember outgrowing and it was years ago.

I felt drunk I was so crazy happy and optimistic as well - I decided to keep some of the smallest sizes that I felt were beyond the size I would get down to but now, we will just see :D.

I know, it's crazy, sun! I haven't been this small since I was 18. Still a ways to go though. Unfortunately, I got rid of all my "thin" clothes a few years ago. I guess that's okay though, since my tastes have changed quite a bit. The bad part is I'm having a little bit of saggy skin. It depresses me since I'm only 24, but it's to be expected with 131 pounds of weight loss. I hope I can get rid of it so I'll look good in a bikini! They say lifting weights helps a lot.

Grats on your weight loss! I would tear apart my closet, but I'm in a wheelchair atm from a broken pelvis :(

When I get down as small as you Slainna, I think I'll look up everyone who knew me at that size.  Ive thought of going back up north and 'meeting' old friends Ive located and email online.  Not to mention those who've seen me at my heaviest and will be happy to see Im taking care of myself....finally!

Clean weekend, hardcore cleaning and activity does seem to show up on the scales so being hopeful for my Thursday weighin.
Unfortunately, I can't do any hardcore cleaning or much activity at all, so it makes it really hard to lose. I am being titrated off of my prednisone and only have a week left of it, so I am hoping to start seeing a difference on the scale because of that.

I know what you girls are talking about. Down 170 pounds, I haven't weighed this since I was in Jr. high, at that time I had to buy husky clothes, sweat pants, and couldn't wear all the cute outfits. The other day, I bought MEDIUMS off the clearance rack at K-Mart! I could hear the angels singing over the loud speaker!LOL I was there to return some shorts I bought b/c when I tried them on at home they were too big Surprised! I have never had this problem before! I'm not shopping in the plus size anymore! It is kind of sureal, everyday I wake up and I'm still skinny. That is enough motivation right there, after being fat all my life.

I am also having the problems with saggy skin slainna:( Now when I shop for clothes I have to make sure the sleeves are long enough:( You know the styles short and cute. BlaHHHHHH ! But I would deffinatly rather be skinny than fat, life is so much easier now, only 32 here. I can fit in the seats, I get through a turn style, (can't wait for the fair to fit on the rides), my feet don't hurt, my back doesn't hurt, etc, etc, etc.  Jody:)
