take my word for it. counting calories is a disease thats very annoying and cant be destroyed easily. just eat healthy and dont count calories it will mess you up.
I just make sure that I eat healthy. If I am going to have a stake for dinner then I don't have bad things the rest of the day. I also make sure that what I do have no matter what it is, is portioned correctly. It helps me to take a look at the nutrition lables as well, you dont have to go overboard, but take a look at the fiber, fat grams, and calories. It helps me, eventhough I am not counting the calories to get an idea of what is okay and what is not (or needs to be limited). :)
both!

but trying to eat healthier more than counting calories.  a friend of mine tried doing the thing where you say you wont eat something if it has a higher % fat than __ (fill in number).  it seemed to work for her.

However, counting calories can be a good tool for assessing just how much you are eating in a day.  It's sometimes easy (well, for me at least!) to forget a handful of peanuts here or there.  But I do agree that it can get out of hand.  For me, the weight tends to creep up if I don't count just because I'm not so mindful of what exactly I'm eating.  But that's just me - you could try both for a week and see what works best for you.  Good luck!

Well...the site IS called calorie-count.com.   I'm pretty sure it's not a disease to count your calories.
brown rice is healthy but if eat cups and cups of it you are going to gain weight...
i have to count my calories.  this is the one way that i keep honest with myself.  i also have been making much better food choices because i see the numbers on the screen.  i have lost 11lbs since the end of april by dong it this way.  the other thing is that somedays i haven't eaten enough calories.  i would not have known this without logging in my foods.  i do not want my deficit to be greater than 800-1000.  on the days that i go hiking or workout really hard then i need to eat more.
I started eating healthy then started to diet.  I lost a little weight by juicing but gained it back.  I didn't start to lose weight until I started counting my calories.  It really made me more aware of empty calories and what was healthy and what wasn't.  You can eat healthy food but some healthy food is very fattening.  I've made counting calories like a challenge or game and I'm having fun doing it.  I have never stayed on a diet this long and I do have my little cheats once in a while but Ii find now I don't enjoy them that much.  I've tried all kinds of diets and counting these calories has kept my interest  the longest.  I'm learning more about food every day.
