Counting Calories late at night, for which day are they logged?

Quote  |  Reply

I ate dinner at 11:55 last night and counted the calories for Oct 6th.  Would it be more appropriate that I log them for today?

Personally, since it was before midnight, I would count it for the sixth.  Others may have a different opinion.

I was still eating after midnight.  I did count it for yesterday, yikes, like 1900 cals for the day, at least I exercised twice and the calories were good nutrition

I don't think it much matters - the week will even it out.  Make up a rule and stick to it for yourself if you do it frequently.

you're so right

I tend to count my cals for the day from when I wake up until I go to bed and not by the clock.  My schedule is never the same day to day so this makes it easier for me.

In order to be consistent, I count from midnight to midnight.  It next to never happens, but should I eat something after midnight, I basically treat it like breakfast and apply it to the current day's calorie count.  I just like to be as accurate as possible with my food log since I'm staying as close to 1200 a day as possible.  Just a thought, but maybe don't put yourself in that situation again.  Either eat before OR after midnight, and don't overlap.  Again, just a thought.  Laughing  Good luck!!

I have this problem alot.  I work nights so I eat dinner after midnight a lot.  The way I have been doing it is that if I eat dinner after midnight than I record the date as the day i woke up on rather than the day it actually is.  That way, my calories reset  back to zero whenever I go sleep and when I wake up and have breakfast, I'm at zero calories.  The unfortunate part is that the burn meter resets at midnight (which is like the middle of the "day" for me), so its kind of useless for me.  Is there anyway to make that reset at a different time?  Does it matter?

Why don't you record the calories for "yesterday" when you are eating after midnight but have not been to sleep yet?
