Counting calories in PGX Daily (fiber supplement)?
I'm currently supplementing my diet with PGX Daily - a fiber supplement that is supposed to help fill you up and keep your blood sugar levels constant.
I read on their website that each serving (of three capsules) contains 30 calories. I take one serving three times a day and am wondering if I should add those 90 total calories to my daily food log? I've read some places that calories from fiber don't need to be counted, but 90+ calories add up!
Thanks for your help!

I type in all my vitamin supplements and have them as tagged items so I can easily add them each day. I do it more so my fiber amounts are accurate as well as my food grade for the day. I would say add them in so you can see your total fiber amounts (this keeps me from ODing on benefiber on days I eat tons of fiber) but don't give yourself grief if you regularly go over your calories by about 90.
Certainly calls for making it a custom food and counting its calories. Fiber itself has no calories because it is, well, undigested and expelled. But that supplement must contain sugar and/or other carbohydrates for measurablity, flowability and pourability reasons. What's on the ingredient panel?
Even artificial sweeteners contain dextrose in the packets--yes, a simple sugar! Read the box. Such a diluent must be added so that the average person can pour and measure the stuff. Home food scales do not measure milligrams.
Hey, I started taking PGX too, I also asked a question in the forum but got no results ![]()
hows it working for you?
I finished up a couple of bottles and decided to hold off and buying more - just to see if my results changed. Turns out, my results are just as good NOT taking it...and instead of 90 calories of food from pills, I eat an extra 90 calories of food...which I enjoy a lot more!![]()
My conclusion is that for me, it wasn't worth the money. Perhaps it works differently for different people, though. (That's my politically correct statement for today.)
ha ha,
yah I haven't really been taking it religiously. I take it on days that I have to wait a long time between bfast and lunch and it seems to help keep me full for an extra hour. Other than that I don't really take it.
I just wanted to see if it was working wonders for you, then I would prolly start taking it all the time. Thank you!
Count those calories --- they don't come from the fibre itself, but from fats that are also included in the capsules (evidently, the PGX fibre binds itself to these fats to become more effective). Basically, each capsule includes 1 g of fat in addition to 750 mg of PGX fibre itself -- hence, 3 capsules include roughly 3 g or 27 calories of fat.
I'm wondering whether the Benefibre powder doesn't make more sense -- it seems a lot cheaper, and doesn't have as many calories.
Where can I see 1/8th or 1/6th of a pie or angel food cake?
This is the best way to picture a portion of pie or cake: Draw a circle to represent the circumference of the cake or pie (9" pie? 10" cake?... Read more
