Counting Calories-LA Weight Loss-Desperately needing some advice

Quote  |  Reply
Hope someone can shed some light.

I have been reading the postings about eating enough calories,
I should be eating around 1500 calories a day in order to lose.

I strength train 3 days a week and running 3 days a week.

So I have to add the calories back into my allowance that I burn.
However, being on the LA program is total opposite- My calorie intake is less then 1000, I do not use their bars or supplements.
Reading everything on CC- LA does the opposite.

In  beginning when I started the LA program I went  from 147 to 133 on only 1000 calories. So I'm finding it hard to realize I need 1500 calories a day to lose my weight . Everything I read makes sense though. I'm 5'6.

Went back to LA, because I have put 7 pounds on -they put me on another program, less then a 1000 calories a day. So I  I'm thinking should I just say the heck with LA weight loss and increase my calroie intake and see what happens.
This is the LA program:

This is what I am allowed
4 servings of vegetables-1/2 cup cooked
2 servings protein- 7oz chicken, and 6 oz fish
3 servings fruit
1 serving fat
2 startches
1 dairy-175gram

ANTOHER QUESTION-If I increase my calorie intake am I going to gain in the beginning and how soon would I see  before the scale moved? I know everyone is different. But I have been on less then 1000 calories for a quite a while.

ANY ADVICE PLEASE!!!!

Rose,

I am definately not an expert, and new here myself, but I can tell you my mother's recent experience, which sounds similar to yours. She was on a weight loss program monitored through a doctor that allowed 1000 calories a day. It included one small meal a day, and the rest was through opti-fast drinks. She also exercises around the same amount as you a week. At the beginning she did lose some weight, like you did, but then she plateaud for months.

After joining this sight, I emailed her some articles and talked her into upping her calories. She has been doing that for one week now, and has lost 7 pounds! Now, from what I have read on this site, most of that is probably water weight, but either way, it looks like she is heading back down!

Dont' know if that helps, but good luck! In my opinion, you should ditch that diet and just try to eat healthy like others on this site are doing. I recently upped my calories to break a plateau and it has only been a few days, but it seems to be working, I went up a pound, and then down 1.5 so far
Although I never tried LA Weight Loss, I am in a similar situation as you in that I am trying to train my body to lose weight on more calories. My hopeful objective is that the benefits will far outweight the few pounds I might gain at first as my body stabilizes and my metabolism increases.

I came to the realization (simple and obvious as it might be) that I just can't live with a very low cal diet forever. It ALWAYS leads me to binge later and has caused me problems with being able to feel true hunger.

I have been increasing my calories and I haven't yet seen a gain... my weight has stayed at the same spot for about a month now. I was scared to death of gaining, but now I have so much more energy and am actually starting to feel real hunger again, that I am willing to accept a gain in the beginning if that means less hardcore dieting for the rest of my life.

Your allowances seem a little on the skimpy side for your height. I'm 5'3 and don't think that would be enough food for me. But then again, I really don't know anything about the program.

Listen to your body, above all else.
I used to work at LA Weight loss a few years ago,  The program is meant to be used with the LA Lites (almost 500 calories and a ton of protien.)  If you are not using the Lites you should go back and ask them for the program above yours(purple if you are using gold now) that will give you enough calories for your weight.

If you need more advice or clarification I would be glad to help.
omg the bars are almost 500 calories, on the site a while back it said around 200?
if you were to use 2 Lites a day it can be from 200 - 500 calories depending what ones you use.  you would need to make up those calories by going to the program above yours. if you are on gold let me know and I will send you a purple card, the next one up that would give you more calories and should do the trick to get you jump started again or if you want you could the 3 day clense using oranges instead of the juice.  I also have that info if you need it.  I had really good success with the program when I worked there, I lost over 60 pounds and have kept it off, my only problem with it is that the servings of protein are so large that I could never eat it all but overall it is a good program.

Hello Christinaw1979......I used to do LA also.........I can't find any of my cards.....could you posibly send me a copy of the purple plan. That's the one that I was on before they closed here in Florida.

I did the LA weight loss plan almost 7 years ago. It's the only one that I've ever had any success with, and I tried a ton of them!  I lost 35 pounds following it. I went through some bad personal issues and ended up gaining 45 pounds. Three weeks ago I pulled out all my old LA information and decided that I can do this on my own. I actually found some high protein high fiber bars at costco that I've been using and they seem to be doing the trick. I've been logging everything I eat on CC and that has helped me immensely. I'm 5'7 and when I started LA they put me on the gold plan. I've realized through CC that it's about 1,200 - 1,300 cal. a day. Maybe you should try upping your calories gradually to see how your body responds. Add 200 calories for the next two weeks to see if it makes a difference. Plus at 5'6 and 133 pounds your body may be telling you that you are at a healthy weight. It may take you longer to loose more. My goal is 135 - 140. Good luck.

I just realized this was originally posted in 2007. Oh well. Hopefully Rose1084 figured it outWink

Just my two cents, I went to LA 2005, did excellent lost about 60 lbs, then had other issues come up and really did not finish the program, but then went back to the program in 2007, and in 8 months time only lost probably 5lbs, I talked to them and they kept trying different things nothing worked!! I told them it seemed like I was eating a lot less than I did on the original program the 1st time, they said that this was the new way, well the new way did not work for me. I am now on WW, so between WW and CC, I am losing again. CC has helped me figure out how many calories to eat and keep me accountable. Sorry Im not much help, I'd stick with CC, LA is wayyyy to expensive when you can get the advice here for free, but thats just me two cents. Good luck on your weight loss journey.
