Going to Cracker Barrel

Quote  |  Reply

I'm going to Cracker Barrel tomorrow...best choices?  Pick all veggie sides, right?  Or are they cooked with sugars or oils?  If I wasn't counting, I'd love to have their apple dumpling....oh, SOSO GOOD!  Can only imagine how many calories in that!

Well, since I work at a Cracker Barrel, Im thinking I can help you out.  Definitely most everything on the menu is very fatty and high in calories BUT grilled chicken tenders, green beans, turnip greens, a tossed salad, or larger-entree salad like the country chef, grilled chicken or turkey salad (all of which has shredded colby cheese you want to look out for) are going to be your best bets.  If you do decide to get a salad remember to dip your salad in the salad dressing-dont pour over the entire salad-we tend to give large amounts of salad dressing.  You could do breakfast-like whole wheat french toast made with egg beaters and sugar free syrup-you cant tell its not the tasty fattening kind-I eat it all the time-but only 2 pieces.  And as for the apple dumpling-I couldnt begin to tell you the calorie count in it-just know that its super high!!  I know what goes in it and on top of it.  Cracker Barrel does offer sugar free applie pie with sugar free ice cream, which is not calorie free but its way better than the alternatives and its really yummy-you would have NO IDEA it was sugar free if I didnt tell you.  I promise.  Ask that your food is not cooked in butter or oil and they will oblige.

PS. For the record, since I do work there- I eat there ALOT, but only grilled chicken, tossed salad (and even divuldge in ranch dressing), green beans or the french toast like I recommended to you, and I have lost over 30 lbs.

Hope this helps. :)

Grilled chicken tenders and SF apple pie, it is!  Thank you so much for your inside info!  I will ask for my veggies to be made w/o butter or oil and for my salad dressing to be served on the side...good tips.  You must have great will power to work there and still lose weight...I'm impressed...good job!

Vegetables are made throughout the day, not made to order so they are already made how they are made.  There are no substitutions there.  But like I said, they really arent going to hurt you, its the fried stuff and the gravy you need to stay away from.  Good luck today.  Cracker Barrel is VERY tempting.

It may be too late, but one of my faves is chicken & dumplings.  For the country dinner plate w/ chicken & dumplings, green beans, and sweet baby carrots:

390 calories

10 grams fat

45 carbs

29 grams protein

(8 weight watchers points)

Thanks to calorielab.com for this and other helpful info!

Well, I followed through...4 grilled chicken tenders, baby carrots, green beans and 1 corn muffin.  I was proud of myself cuz I really wanted the potato casserole and chicken fried chicken.  And I didn't have any dessert.  Our waiter was great...very helpful...(2 star apron) and friendly.  I don't know what the muffins equal calorie wise but can't be too bad, right?  Thanks for the help.

OMG that apple dumpling is soo good! It's huge though. Luckily, the one time I had it, me and 3 other family members all shared it.

Well I don't really know what to suggest for you.. I have a very difficult time eating there because I'm vegetarian. So the only meal I can order is the country vegetable platter.
