crafts to keep you busy?

Quote  |  Reply

Has anyone started a new hobby and found it useful for keeping you occupied and not wanting to eat as much? I started making earrings a few months ago and it seems to help! I'm selling them online at www.designsbylauralu.etsy.com. Anyone else doing anything similar?

i use art. i paint, surf art websites, make stuff out of paper.. lol and lately i've been using coloring books.. lame, i know. i have a 96 pack of crayons and about 4 books filled up already. haha, but it works!

I do colouring in as well! I don't think I'm much better at it now I'm 20 than I was when I was four, but hey! I used to do origami, but can't be arsed with that one lately. Jigsaw puzzles and sudoku puzzles aren't really crafts, but I use them in the same way. I also always seem to have a button or two that need sewing on (the result of a nervous button-fiddling habit ...). Another idea that I haven't done in yonks is making friendship bracelets. Anything that keeps the hands and mind somewhat busy is a potential binge-diversion tactic for me. I'll check this thread for other things to try!

Lmao. I'm 21 and I still like coloring in coloring books, it relaxing. Haha. I also like word puzzles. I'm mostly on the computer though. Reading, talking, etc. I don't really have many hobbies anymore. Haha.

I don't do the colouring but I make cards, played with jewellery (not very good at it yet) make patterns for cross-stitch and then do them, surf a lot, walk the dog....

I'm always looking for new things to do.

Crafts are great - I've got a hard time putting down the crochet hooks or knitting needles to drink my drink let alone snack.  There have been many a can of soda that have gone flat while I worked away.  (I suffer from One More Row syndrome.)  It's severe enough that I've stayed up ALL night on occasion doing it.

I've been doing some drawings now that Christmas is approaching - going to do two pencil drawings and one water color (1 pencil of each of my mother's dogs, 1 water color of both of them together).  Knocked one out in two hours that I should have been working on projects for school.

If I ever have time again I'd love to get back into painting figurines, sewing, and bead work.  I miss all the crafts I used to have time for.

23 here, and artist all my life. To stay busy (and not mindlessly eat) I:

  • Crochet
  • Knit
  • Paint
  • Go on hikes
  • Make jewelry (necklace to rings to earrings and back)
  • Draw and sketch
  • Edit photos for friends/family

It's fun :)

I'm currently finishing a rosey hued shawl for my Gramma for Christmas.

Man I'm jealous of the many talents people have here. When it comes to drawing I'm lucky if I can draw a stick figure! Lmao. Don't even get me started on sewing..I can't even repair holes in clothes I always took them to my mother. Haha.

I use to write quite a bit, but now I swear I have a form of ADHD because I can never sit down now and concentrate to write like I once did....I also use to act, but haven't done it in a long time now. Kind of miss it. :(

i cross stitch...the project I'm working on is..around 18X24 inches and has approx 120,000 stitches.

keeps me busy.

these are all really great ideas! I have so many things I want to get into... i really want to crochet again but I haven't done it in a few years, so we'll se how that goes! I want to learn how to make beanies!

I'm a seamstress when I'm not using my needles to stab people in the antecube.  I mostly make scrub tops these days, the occasional skirt or dress to supplement my wardrobe or a corset for a special night out, and even though I'm pretty quick with sewing, it can still keep me focused on what I'm doing rather than on the Wheat Thins in the cabinet.

I also play with polymer clay from time to time.  I'm getting ready to soften some so I can make incense burners for the incense I just ordered.

We're pretty crafty in this house.  Between sewing new clothes, busting out our many mediums of art supplies, and cooking (hey, it's time consuming and you've got to eat eventually, right?), not to mention all of the cleaning and organising because we're still trying to make this house more our style since we'll be here for a while, we've got plenty of projects.

Knitting and painting. I'm going to try crafting up some light fixtures once I find some thick rice paper I like.

yup drawing is a really good hobby, lots to play around with (And with a tablet you can do a it without getting messy!)
