Oh Man!! Lately I've been craving bar-b-que in the worst way!! Any grilled, smoked meat actually- if I happen to smell someone cooking on the grill I just start salivating! I know grilled foods are better than fried, but are they bad once ya put all the sauce and stuff on them? Also all we have is a charcoal grill which I'm not comfortable using. My hubby will grill out on the weekends but i wish there was a way I could "grill" foods during the week- I'd eat grilled food everyday! Also, having some trouble finding out the calorie count for bar-b-qued chicken- my husband grilled it and then put bar-b-que sauce on it . It was delicious and i had a hard time limiting myself to just one piece! I don't know why I have these "carnivore cravings" lately! Dea
I am with you! I always salivate every time I drive by a BBQ joint around here.. So what I do for my BBQ fix- marinate chicken in a little bit of liquid smoke, bit of garlic (fresh is best but powdered would work just fine), coarse ground pepper, a bit of lemon juice then grill it. I use a foreman grill since I live on the second floor and my apartment doesn't allow grilling on the balcony *grr!* and it sort of gives off the grilled flavor due to the liquid smoke... As for the BBQ sauce- I tend to try to look for homemade since I keep feeling so bad about all the sugar in the sauces. This is a recipe I really like and use whenever I want BBQ meat... Mix all in sauce pan and simmer for 30 minutes or so until it gets to the consistency you want. This sauce was good on country style ribs as well in a crockpot, ooh! *drools*
Amandief, thanks so much for the BBQ sauce recipe- it sounds great. Also great idea about using the liquid smoke! I actually have a George Foreman grill- somewhere! Bought it at my neighbor's yard sale for $5 ( no kidding! )several years ago and I put it down in our basement on a shelf since we don't have room for it in our kitchen, and well- it hasn't been seen since!! I've searched for it several times, but our basement has become quite cluttered in the last few years and I have a sneaking suspicion my hubby might have accidently thrown it out- it was in a plastic grocery sack. Hate to go buy a new one cause I know if I do the darn $5 one will somehow resurface!! Thankfully now that it's summer my hubby has been doing more grilling! Dea
Yes its bad with the sauce for it has a lot of sugars and carbs in it. If I want BBQ I kinda skip lunch all together cuz I know its going to be unhealthy and ill over eat. But then again its a lot of protien and protien usually keeps you fuller longer and less likely to snack? hell I think I am going to gates today and its all your fault lol
LOL! Sorry! We ate at Rosedale Bar-B-Que recently-had tried to get into Oklahoma Joe's but it was right before the 4th and the place was a zoo!! The line stretched clear out the door! Rosedale was good though- we had some ribs and i had some burnt ends... now I'm hungry!!
