Crazy day and can't stop eating!

Quote  |  Reply

The past couple of days have been crazy.  My brother was home so we just keep going out to dinner and I am trying to be reasonable with food but I am still in food is entertainment rather than life force.  Before I was exercising so I wasn't worrying myself all that much.  But yesterday I only excercised fifteen minutes (with about fifteen minutes of swim lessons so that counts as arm exercises for me, haha).  But today I couldn't exercise.  I work as a lifeguard and on my breaks I go up to the gym and workout.  But today during my usual time we had a major incident with the pool (a swimmer had a seizure, ended up at the bottom of the pool, and I had to call paramedics).  Obviously it was very stressul and that stress led to some emotional eating and a headache so I did not want to exercise.  Right now I am feeling very frustrated and so afraid that I gained a ton of weight back.  Please help!

It's just a few days.  If life was perfect and never presented any challenges we might all as well pack up and go home... Smile

Small correction... food is entertainment.  It's a basic human pleasure to enjoy a meal with a loved-one you don't see so often.  Don't feel bad about that.  If you made an effort to make reasonable food choices that's probably an improvement on the past... and you should feel good about that.  At least you got 15 minutes of exercise rather than none at all and you helped save someone's life into the bargain... which is pretty special.  Could have been a lot worse.

Whatever happened, you won't gain 'a ton of weight' in such a short time.  Get back to your regular routine of healthy eating, portion-control and exercise as soon as possible and put the last few days behind you ..  It's actually good for someone on a diet to occasionally eat a little more than normal ... so be optimistic.

From what I know, you wouldn't have gained a ton of weight from just 3 days. Let's say you have had 2,800 calories everyday for the past 3 days. You burn 2,000 of that a day just by doing what you do. Plus the little exercise probably burned you an extra 100 calories a day.

So if you have gone 700 calories over everyday for the past three days the most you will have gained is 2,100 calories. There are 3,500 calories in a pound. So the MOST you would have gained is 2/3 of a pound. You can get it all back in 3 days and get right back on track.

So focus on the present, shrug it off, and get back on track!

This is just me but what helps me out when I feel all crazy and out of control I take a long shower and think everything over. Then everything doesn't feel as crazy and you feel better. I usually do it at the end of the day though. Idk why but it usually helps me relax and get control. Maybe because of the heat, noise, and your alone...

It may be crazy but it helps me! lol

Would it be easier for you to ease back into your regular routine over the next two days?

Just adding more fruits and veggies to your meals in place of part of something else would go a long way to get you back on track. Exercise at half pace or half of the duration you usually do? All-or-nothing thinking is too rigid, especially, I find with dieting.

I think it's too much to ask of ourselves not to enjoy life, including food, once and a while. As long as it's the exception, I think you'll be fine!
