Credit Cards -- Carry a balance, pay it off each month, never touch them?
Many people have mentioned using part of their income tax refunds/rebate to use to pay down credit card balances. This made me wonder .... when it comes to credit cards do you ...
1. Carry a balance on one or more cards, paying some each month?
2. Use a credit card for convenience, but pay it off in full each month?
3. Don't use credit cards.
(Of course, no need to give personal financial details on the 'Net ... just looking for some general responses, peeps.)
=^..^= MOLLY
We pay ours off each month in full, except the downpayment we just made on a new, badly-needed, couch which we'll pay off next month. I hate seeing the interest amount because it's just money wasted but sometimes there's just nothing you can do about it.
We're using our tax refund for a water filtration system and blinds for the living room of our new house!! I love windows but sometimes we can't even see our tv because ithe sun is so bright!
Never touch them unless I have to. Pay them in full each month when I can. Currently carrying large balances on them all.
Use a credit card for convenience, but pay it off in full each month
I use mine for times when I have no other choice and for gas, and pay it off in full each month. I'm nineteen and trying to build a good credit history. :)
I don't have a credit card, and never plan on getting one. I don't trust myself.
Carrying a 0% balance from my car loan...generally just use them for all expenses so I can track them and get some kind of bonus and then pay them off.
I use my credit cards for convenience (it's a lot easier to carry a credit card than a checkbook and/or cash) and I pay it off in full every month, no exceptions. If I can't afford to pay for something in cash, I don't put it on the credit card.
Mine started as an "emergency card" turned into a "maxed out card" and led to more "maxed out cards".
Me and credit cards don't mix. I have paid them down, but I still have another six months (!) until I am free and clear of the mess I got myself into to.
No more credit cards for me!
Use one card exclusively for about every single purchase we make and pay it off in full at the end of the month.
Use 0% cards to siphon off debt from other areas and pay them off in full by the expiration of the 0% period.
I don't own any, but thinking of getting one of those credit cards you put money on.
i have 2. i pay them off each month. 1 i use all the time because i earn "chrome bucks" with it. so, it doesn't cost me anything and once a year, i turn in what i have earned and get anywhere from 5-1,000 in gift certificates to the harley davidson store.
the other one i pay off monthly and my 17 year old keeps it hid in her car and it is for emergency's only. i worry she will end up in trouble and with no credit, stranded. i want her to have something just in case. makes me feel better and so far she has been very honest. i put a limit of $5K on it.
i don't really like them though. too easy to just *put it on the card* and get what you want. i don't like giving banks my hard earned money in interest that's all. it may come to other people easily but not me so i don't give it away in fees or interest if i don't have to
I'm cash-only unless making an online purchase. Then I pay the bill in full when it shows up.
i have 2 major credit cards and use them for different things depending on the rewards (gas, grocery stores, etc) and pay them in full every month
I pay off my balance within a month. However, in 2006 I maxed out both of my cards on lawyer fees, trying to get information on how to get my nephew transferred to my county after he was placed in foster care. I'm still slowly paying back the 2500 I owe, and at one point had it down to a thousand, but then I got screwed, had nowhere to live, and maxed 'em out again to get my apartment.
I'm down to about 2000 bucks, which Alex and I are slowly tackling and once it is paid off, any purchases are to be paid off within a month yet again.
Don't have one... I do however have a large amount of student loans. I plan to stay away from credit cards til I get the student stuff paid off.
If I had them I'd definitely do my best to pay them off each month.
Never had a credit card in my own name. Never planning on having a credit card in my own name. However, I am an add on to my husband's credit card, the balance of which we pay at the end of every month.
I racked up a nice debt when I was an undergrad in school - still working to pay it off about 5 years later. I highly doubt I will ever have one again, I don't trust myself with them either! Thank God for check cards!
Have 3, 1 of which I use for my regular purchases (I earn points from Amazon), 1 for traveling (hotel points) and 1 for emergencies. I used to pay them off in full every month, but currently have a balance of about 4,000 total spread among them (due to Humongo amount of dental work needed).
I prefer to use my card for regular purchases b/c it's easier to track how much I'm spending in each category.
Soon as I get the cards paid off, I'm cancelling at least 1 card.
I use cash only for the farmers market and credit card for everything else, for convenience. Pay it off every month.
I have a debit card, that way i don't have to carry round cash everywhere i go, but i can only spend money that i already have, do you guys not have these?
I don't understand credit cards so i don't have one.
