Croc-Pot Roast "Emergency"...
Dinner Emergency!
I made my first roast last night (using the slow cooker). It smells heavenly, but the broth/gravy is very, very greasy. I don't know if I should just suck it up and give it a whirl OR try to fix it. I'm afraid it'll be kind of gross, as is.
I was thinking I could pour off the current greassy stuff... Save back a couple of spoonfulls, and just make an entirely seperate batch of gravey to pour over the lot...
Any thoughts, advice, etc? I love cooking and I try really hard not to serve my family "bad" meals... And I really don't think the current broth is going to cut it...
This always happens to me too. Usually if you just cook it, when heated the white greasy stuff just melts back to normal. Just gets that way when cold. But, seeing it always freaks me out so I usually skim off as much as I can before reheating.
:)
Skim it off. Your digestive system will thank you.
I always skim. Even before this healthy eating kick :D
I find an ice cream scoop works wonders if you don't have any fancy tools like some do. It has just the right curve to get the grease and not the juice.
Thanks, guys. I'll see how it goes. ;)

BEST POT ROAST EVER, all. Sorry if that sounds conceited, but it was really, really great. The veggies cooked down quite a lot, but I think that just made the meat and gravy all that much better. If you've never done a roast in the slow cooker, I really recommend it.
If you have time to do this, should only take an hour depending on the temperature of your freezer. You can put all the gravey in a dish, over it and place in the freezer. Don't freeze it but get it really cold. The white grease will come to the top and you can scoop it off. Then just use what's leftover.
Mmmmmm I've decided to eat vegetarian two full days a week... starting today :S I would rather eat your roast! LOL
