Crock Pot Jook Recipe
A breakfast dish in many countries in Asia, jook is a great way to make a little food go a long way. Additionally, it's warm and somehow comforting.
| 1 | cup rice |
| 1 | tbsp sesame oil |
| 1 | tbsp vegetable oil |
| 8 | cups chicken stock |
| 1 | tbsp cilantro |
| 1 | tbsp ginger, chopped finely |
| 4 | cloves garlic, chopped finely |
- Turn crock pot on high and heat the oils.
- While the oils are heating, rinse the rice until the water runs clear.
- Toast the rice in the oils in the crock pot until it is fragrant and slightly toasted, about 10 minutes (depending on your crockpot).
- Toss the remainder of the ingredients and cook until it becomes porridge consistency, about four hours on high heat or eight hours on low heat.
- Serve with desired toppings, such as: chopped green onions, soy sauce, crushed pepper, parsley, mushrooms, sesame seeds . . . use your imagination!
