Submitted by pepperlint

Makes 4 servings

A breakfast dish in many countries in Asia, jook is a great way to make a little food go a long way. Additionally, it's warm and somehow comforting.

Ingredients
1 cup rice
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 tbsp vegetable oil
8 cups chicken stock
1 tbsp cilantro
1 tbsp ginger, chopped finely
4 cloves garlic, chopped finely
Directions
  1. Turn crock pot on high and heat the oils.

  2. While the oils are heating, rinse the rice until the water runs clear.

  3. Toast the rice in the oils in the crock pot until it is fragrant and slightly toasted, about 10 minutes (depending on your crockpot).

  4. Toss the remainder of the ingredients and cook until it becomes porridge consistency, about four hours on high heat or eight hours on low heat.

  5. Serve with desired toppings, such as: chopped green onions, soy sauce, crushed pepper, parsley, mushrooms, sesame seeds . . . use your imagination!
