cross country and calories

Quote  |  Reply

Hi everybody--

So I recently (like this past week :X) joined the school's cross country team. We don't run that much yet (like 3 miles a day, and I can only run part of it--walk the rest), but I think we will be upping the distance in the coming weeks.

I have dealt with anorexia for the past ten months, and finally got my weight back up to "healthy" range (117 lbs at 5'4.5", 16 years old) I really really like my body at this point; I think that I look healthy and I feel pretty happy with myself.

My question is, how much should I be upping my calories to compensate for the added exercise? I am currently maintaining on 1850-1950 per day (lower on days when we don't run). Anyone care to cast some light on the subject?

Thanks so much :)

I think the average burn for every mile a woman runs is about 105 calories. Walking is at about 74 calories per mile. Anyways, i am also in XC and it can be hard calculating calories because we typically run for a certain amount of time rather than a certain amount of miles. You will increase the amount you are running to because you race over 3 miles so you have to run further than that in practice. Hope you like XC it's a lot of fun!

thank you :)
