Crystal Light and Weight Loss

Quote  |  Reply

I love to drink a couple glasses of crystal light a day instead of plain old water. Can this stuff interfere with weight loss? Anyone still losing weight drinking it?

Mmm... this is silly question me thinks. There are pretty much no calories there, right? So how can it possibly interfere with weight loss?

There is some research out there to indicate that some artificial sweeteners can make you hungrier (esp. for sugary things). I think this is due to a spike in blood sugar, someone correct me if I'm wrong. I've also read that the same sweeteners can make your body hold on to fat, esp. around the belly area. I'm wary of them, but honestly, they've got to be better than soda for you.

i think u will be okay i have few glasses a day and i lost 30lbs so i would not worry about it

Until its 100 cals per packet then I wouldn't sweat it.

the artificial sugars made my face break out.....

I've read this as well.  I'm three weeks into going cold turkey off of Diet Mountain Dew replacing it with plain old water.  It is honestly still the hardest part of my diet... I get one every week or so and believe me I savor every sip!

Thanks for the replies. I agree that giving up diet soda is the toughest part of my diet along with drinking water. I used to drink 6-8 diet cokes a day.

can i just say the easiest way to get off soda is when you're not dieting. When i was a kid I seriously drank three cans of mountain dew a day, but now that I am older I don't drink any soda. I wondered why...

it was because i slowed to only drinking one a week (over the course of a year!) ad now i only have soda maybe once a month.

but anyway, i love cyrstal light. while it probably isn't the best thing for you, it's sugar free and only has 5 calories per 8 oz glass. It's awesome when you have the craving for something sweet.

I agree...artificial sweetners are not to bad...there are a lot of worse things. I use them and never have problems.

I hope not cause i love it too..........Laughing

I am not sure how artificial sweeteners effect not only my diet, but also my health, so I look at them as junk food and include them sparely (just like fat and sugar).

I would not worry about it if crystal light is the only artificial sweetener you have in the day, as with everything else, just don't over indulge.

When I get tried of plain water I have unsweetened iced tea. Try the herbal teas, they are great iced and you do not miss the sweetness. Or try mixing 1 part juice to 3 parts water.
