What does a cup of cereal REALLY look like?
I was so suprised to see that this was what a cup of cereal looked like.

That's why I don't eat cold cereal. When I used to, I would eat half a box in one sitting.
that's somewhat depressing.
all bran and fiber one have way bigger serving sizes though, not so depressing and way more filling. (:
Yeah, that's disappointing... and what the hell kind of cereal is that anyway? It looks kind of gross... some kind of chocolate lucky charms?
you mean it looks like puppy chow with marshmallows? LOL
not very much in that big bowl, huh? I use a smaller bowl - makes it look like a lot more!
I don't eat much cereal though-maybe once a month or so.
I was just about to go back and edit to say that it looked like dog food with marshmallows in it. LOL
It just dosen't seem real to me
My box of Kashi Go Lean cereal says 8 servings in the entire box.
That cereal lasts me about 4-5 days, so I eat about 2 servings each day, which is 280 calories. Plus the milk is about 330, which to me is'nt that bad.
it also depends the size of the cereal too...chocolate lucky charms has bigger pieces then..lets say honey bunches of oats [=.
I don't measure my cereal -- I weigh it, it is far more accurate. Furthermore -- do we know the size of that bowl? could have been a serving bowl, not a cereal bowl. I have three sizes of bowls I use with cereal -- one almost overflows when I put in my 52g of KGL (before the milk), the other two it fills pretty well.
i measure mine in a measuring cup lol.
also, i have a special bowl a use, it always fills up the bowl so it seems like i have alot of cereal.
the bowl used in the picture was huge. i suggest using smaller bowls.
I submit that the people complaining about cold cereal are eating the wrong kinds. :-)
theres no such thing as wrong or right
a calorie is a calorie, sure there is more nutrition then others but some "right" cereals taste like cardboard. hehe.
I've been so much happier eating my cereal out of a very small bowl that gets filled right up.
Want a great deal on cereal, calorie-wise? Try puffed millet @ 60 calories a cup .... you can have TWO cups for just 120 calories.
=^..^= MOLLY
Molly, does that cereal taste good? That sounds great for just 60 calories a cup!
If it's like puffed wheat, I hate that stuff lol (though my dad loves it).
Today I measured a cup of cereal for the first time, Raisin Bran. Sure it's smaller than my usual bowl of cereal but actually it was more than I was expecting after I read people complaining how little a cup is...maybe they should pick flakey cereals so it looks like there's more in it
yeah if i eat cereal, which is rare and only go lean crunch, then i eat it out of a small glass. Put in 1/3 to 1/2 cup cereal and fill the rest up with unsweetened vanilla almond breeze. just right.
Personally I like going by the "serving" size. I think the reason it's called a serving is because that's what a rational, normal person should be eating when they serve themselves out their cereal, or whatever else they're having, like chips -- one oz. usually is a serving...
I have a digital food scale. It's more accurate to weigh food than it is to measure it and less dishes too because you can weigh when it's in the serving bowl or plate. And grams rule, the whole world should use the metric system!
I try not to even keep cereal in the house because its my worst vice of all. I always eat too much.
I even snack straight from the box mindlessly. very dangerous.
some cereals have surprising recommended servings! the recommended amount of cheerios was like, 1 1/2 cups and it was such a large amount! plus, cheerios are yummy and... cheery :]
oh, and the cereal you took a picture of looked kind of sugary, the company would want the calorie amount to appear the same as say, cheerios, but (to the unknowing consumer) in less quantity... i don't know, it's difficult to explain. what's that cereal called, though?
I suppose if you eat garbage like Lucky Charms it would be pretty unsatisfying - a sugar buzz then crash - yuck. I eat exactly one cup of All-Bran mixed with Raisin Bran, and a banana for breakfast and it is quite satisfying, filling and much more nutritious than JUNKY CHARMS.
That can't be right. I fill my special cereal bowl (ha, ha) right to the brim with bran flakes or sultana bran and I know that to be 1.5 cups or 60 grams ... and it works out at slightly less than 200 calories without milk. Saying that, the serving size on the box is 40 grams (which must be a cup?) and I can't believe that anyone would be satisfied with that amount!
