Just out of curiosity....
I know I'm probably going to get flagged for this and I DO know that every frame and body is built differently, but in YOUR opinion what is a good weight for someone who is about 5'3?
I've been struggling on and off with body image (like most girls/women.) I know I shouldn't care what anyone else thinks, but sometimes opinions and advice can help someone. (Doesn't mean I'll take it either, but sometimes the mind can just be warped and it may help.)
Thanks in advance and I sincerely apologize if this may offend anyone because I know how this site can get...Heh....but I really do appreciate any opinions you have. :)
I think in general people care what others think about them but the difference is some people take it to where it controls there life. You can't be something to make others happy or on what others will think. You are more then your body and I think if you can find who the whole you is the outside will mean less. You are right we all come in different shapes and sizes. So can you focus on the positives of you?
To me, 120 or so sounds about right for someone at 5'3". But as long as you're happy and healthy, the number doesn't really matter.
well if you were a 116 pounds this would give you a bmi of 20.5 this would be the least you may even need to be higher to function normally and to get within your set point particuarly if youve had an ed h x
i looked the best at 120-125ish if i remember correctly
you also need to make sure you are actually healthy and it isnt just the ed making you believe this , i say this cause sometimes people get to a bmi of about 15 16 and feel ok convince themselves they are ok and there disorted view makes them believe they are not to thin. remember its also inside that is important theres damage internally that can be done and in order to repair this a healthy weight needs to be achieved
In all honesty it depends...2 women that are both 5'3" and 120 pounds can look very different depending on how their bodies are shaped. Some women gain weight in their chests and/or hips, for others it will be mostly midsection...
Also people have differing ideas on what a "good weight" is...some think 120 pounds is perfect, some think it's too skinny, some think it's too big (the sick ones think this). So, it's really up to you...what weight do YOU feel most happy with?

I agree.
I have two daughters about this height, one is slightly shorter...the taller one has bigger bones for her size & @ 120-125 would probably be fine. The shorter daughter has small bones, larger in her bust size but definitely smaller in the hips & legs. If she were to reach this weight she would look quite overweight.
It all depends...
...
I think it's a lot more complicated than just weight. It's also the bodyfat percentage. I'm 5'2" and 121 pounds. I've heard that Jillian Micheals is 5"2" and about 125 pounds. Now we look very different. My bodyfat percentage is about 27% I'm sure hers is in at least the teens. She is really quite thin but if you saw me, you would think something like "pleasantly plump".
I think you have to look in the mirror and see if it's what you like. As long as you are eating and exercising in a healthy way, and your BMI is in the healthy range, you have the freedom to pick what weight looks the best on you personally.
Good luck figuring it out. :)

i kind of understand that whole feeling, your not fat but not skinny. your jeans fit, but they are a bit snug. if you suck it in you look great, but if you eat anything your bloated for the rest of the day...
i think its hard to say how much one should weigh... some woman weigh a lot more but their weight is spread out differently, hips, boobs, butts, those are the lucky woman who may weigh the same as we do, but just carry it differently. heres what i think, in stead of weighing your self to see if your the right weight, measure!
measuring puts things into a better perspective. when you buy jeans they dont say 125-135 lbs, they instead have measurements. and another thing, if your 100% comfortable in your weight then stay their! i see ten times more sad unhappy skinny woman who would love a piece of cheese but deny themselves because being thin is so much more important to them. ( i will admit i am that way minus the skinny lol) so good luck on your journey to your perfect body, not everyone idea of a perfect body is the same =)

Somewhere between 110 and 140, depending on the individual. 110 would only be for tiny boned naturally skinny folk. 140 would be for the more muscular types (and/or broader frames). Only you know where you fall on that spectrum.
I'm 5'4 (or a smidge under) and I know that personally, I look great at 140 (current weight), could probably get down to 130 if I really worked at it (and would be downright skinny at that weight) and could not healthily weigh 120. Other women my height would feel uncomfortably heavy at 120; it's so different for everyone that this is a really tough question to answer.
Thanks for your opinions guys. It means a lot. I am happy at my weight, but it is on the lower end and I've noticed that the lower I've gotten the more my mood has been crappy. I don't like feeling like this either, so I'm thinking of gaining a few pounds to see if my mood improves, but I still struggle with ED behaviors on and off and it is so hard. I've had both anorexia and BED and I'm just so scared of losing control. That if I try to gain I'll lose that control to stop.
I've just been very depressed lately and confused. I know I need to seek help for these matters. (I haven't seen a counselor since 2006.) but I don't have any medical insurance. I had Medicare for a few months, but it was taken from me for stupid reasons (I moved from another state and it conflicted with it.) And I just don't even know where to begin. I guess I'm fearful of falling and crashing on my a** either way, but more so towards the BED way.
This has helped in some ways though and I really do thank you guys. *hugz for all.
:)
i think ultimately, happines or sadness is independent of weight, ull be happy and sada t either end of the weight spectrum.
energy and health is another story, lower end of the weight range u say, if ur around a bmi of 18, i really think thats too low. im at a bmi of 19 and im trying to gain weight, i dont look good+i know im not as healthy as i could be. i also know that im alsways in a better mood when im eating more, less iratible, not such a short fuse, smarter actually,

I definitely agree on this one. my neighbor is 5'2 and weighs 125... I am 5 foot even and weigh 126.... but for some strange reason, I 'appear' thinner even though I'm shorter and weigh more. even our clothes are a size off...
I suppose it has A LOT to do with bone structure and body hape? either way... it really depends.
with that aside... who care how much you weigh, as long as you feel good about yourself, right? Just try and stay strong. depression SUCKS!! you can pull through though.... we're all here and rootin' for ya!
((huggles))
silentrose i understand your worries i have the same worries of loss of control , but this ill more likely to happen the more starved and underweight you are . try not to panic about this keep eating as best you can 3 meals and 3 snacks as you weight restores the urge will subside . i know its hard to get your head round but your fear of losing control is because this ed is still gripping and controling you , try to challenge your fears and feelings , you can do this h x
I was 117 there.
Hi Rose,
I too had an eating disorder when I was younger and have struggled with it my whole life! Dieting is hard for me because it always seems to get out of control so fast, and funny enough the more I lost the worse I feel (just like you). I have managed to develop pretty healthy attitudes about my weight/looks, but whenever I get stressed I take it out on my body. So instead of focusing on what a 'good weight' for you would be, maybe you need to think about other things in your life that are stressing you out. BTW, if your pic is any indication you've got a gorgeous little body, celebrate it!

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
- Plot your weight curve
- Analyze the trend of your weight (see under Recent in the figure above)
- Determine the projected target date (see under Overall in the figure above)
