I was told by my doctor that I need start losing weight. I found this site by accident but I like what I see. My question is this...Would I get banned if I ask for donations to help me get a exercise bike. I am not able to work and I am fighting for disability. I live with my son who is also disabled so the income is very little which is also why I have gained so much weight. The poorer you are the more fattening the meals are that you eat.Just wanted to ask this as my son said maybe people will donate some money for me get one. If this offends anyone I truely appologize. Just message me back please and let me know. Thank you.
I am not sure of the policy as far as that goes but if you find out I am willing to donate a couple dollars(sorry but I dont have much either). Godspeed.
There are quite a lot of threads on this site with ideas on how to eat cheaply but healthily. You might find those are useful as a starting point. You don't need an exercise bike to lose weight, of course. I don't know the nature of your disability but anything you can do that involves movement will help boost your metabolism and keep you fit. If you're confined to a wheelchair you can exercise the upper body using cans as hand-weights. If you can walk, that's good exercise. Home staircases act as 'steppers'. Elsewhere, municipal leisure centres often have off-peak membership arrangements for people such as OAPs, the disabled and those on low incomes (in the UK at least).
Good luck
You can lose weight for free.
Walking works! And a lot of fruits and vegetables are much less expensive and more filling than processed or fast foods.
Keep reading through this site and you'll find some pretty amazing and low cost (or free) ways to get healthier and thinner without an exercise bike.
As far as gathering donations on this site...without being able to verify your charity, people may think it's a scam (not accusing, sorry, just work with scam victims). Maybe look into charity collection processes, or somewhere you could register your cause so people have a way to confirm the validity of the charity and send their money through a secure site. How do you plan on receiving the money? Money transfers are a process identity thieves use, so most people may not feel comfortable doing that. I know, its sad that givers have to protect themselves, but a lot of people out there (especially now) take advantage of kind hearts. It never hurts to be cautious.
I do wish you the best.
Thank you very much. I do not know what you mean about charity. But I have tried getting into like a ymca but even there it is still a cost that I do not have. I understand what you mean about that though, I am sure that there are alot of people that do scam others. I will try things you all have suggusted, as far as getting charity verified I do not know exactly how to do that. I have posted in classifieds looking for a exercise bike for a very low cost or free but no one responded. I guess in this time and age people just do not have the money to help others. And gi-jane how does the holding can food helps as far as exercise?

A (full) can of food weighs about half a kilo and makes and excellent hand-weight. Things like 'tricep curls' are a good exercise for the back of the arm, for example. Google 'exercises with free weights or hand weights'... for more ideas. Don't worry, light weights won't turn you into the Incredible Hulk! But working muscles use up more energy (calories) than ones that aren't
There are lots of other gentle exercises you can do for free depending on your level of mobility. Walking and stair-stepping have been mentioned. Chair-based exercises can be effective for people unable to stand for long periods. You can also use things around the home to provide resistance. For example, you can do push-ups against a wall rather than on the floor. Standing at arms length from the wall, take your weight on your hands, lean forward and, keeping the feet still, push your body weight away from the wall and back.... repeat.
Here are some more examples of body toning exercises. Obviously, be sensitive to your limitations and don't try to do more than you're capable of.
In short, you really don't need an exercise bike... so don't worry if you can't get your hands on one.
hiya, you can exercise for free.....
walking is great way to lose weight, also there are loads of sites which give free workout instructions etc, just google and im sure you'll find some, i dont know where you are, but do you not have local paper with ads in for second hand things, see if you find a second hand one, which will be more affordable, or charity shops etc, they may have some....
I don't know if you have cable TV or not, but I have seen a program that the Discovery Channel does called "House Calls." It's on the Fit Tv channel. They go to homes of various people and help them find exercises to do right in their homes without any special equipment needed. They use regular household items you already have lying around. They come up with some AMAZING ideas that may be of help to you. Try and check out the website where you can watch some of the viedo clips from the show -

Good luck -

You can also check places like craigslist or http://www.freecycle.org/.
People give away things like this all the time.
Why not post an add on craigslist for your area - asking for an unused or unwanted bike?
