Just curious
Presumably it's temporary, but why is it my weight is up 3-4lb after a 20 mile hike yesterday? I did eat some fish and chips and wine when I got home, but I must have run an insane deficit yesterday! Was walking for 9 hours!
I ache like an old woman... lovely lovely hike though. Canals and railways, fields, hills, a circuit of a lake and I saw two pigs having ungraceful sex, hehe (I am so mature).
I'm not an expert but weight loss through calorie burn doesn't show the minute you do it. Sounds like a great day of exercise but that needs to be repeated regularly with a matching caloric reduction and over time the results will come.
I agree with miket. If you're sore, you could also have water retention in your muscles. Even if you have a large gap between your burn and your intake, it doesn't just poof away the moment you do it (if only).
Plus, fish and chips probably have sodium as well, which is why you "gained" 3-4 pounds.
Ah, I am maintaining now, been at 126-7 for weeks now, not looking to lose anymore (am down 50lb in total), just wondered why the sudden jump in weight following the hike... I am quite sore so maybe it's the water retention thing. Thanks, was curious!
I hike quite regularly (though usually 7 hours not 9), it hadn't happened before.
