I'm inbetween books right now, I'm waiting for my pre-order to release so I can begin a new adventure. I've preordered Christopher Paolini's third book.  The first two were Eragon and Eldest.  Both very good!  If you like Lord of the Rings you'll like Eragon and Eldest.

Well, I'm now reading Kushiel's Mercy by Jacqueline Carey.  I'm not sure what genre it falls into.  It's sort of a mystery/adventure/romance/political type of series.  This is the 5th in the set.

I haven't read the Eragon series, I may take a look at it.  Although I hope the writing is not like Tolkien's.  His overall stories were good, but reading it bored me to tears, and I love to read.   Hope that's not too controversial.

Actually, Eragon was sooooo good I couldn't even put it down to go to the bathroom.  Took me only 2 days to read and it's a big book too.

Eldest took me a week and a half, but I had company staying during that time and so I was distracted.

Since I'm going on a Cruise in October, I'm going to save this third book for pool deck reading.

I do hope you give Paolini a try- his writing is really good - if you want to read an exerpt from his book go here! The link will take you to his site where you can read exerpts from his two books and check out things about the story itself.

I think you would like it!

I couldn't get into Tolkien's writing either, was too slow to build the story.

I'm not sure if Terry Pratchett falls into this category, but I'm thinking it does. A few months ago I read Good Omens, and I recently reread Feet of Clay. I love his writing and have read more than a dozen of his books, but own very few. I'd like to start collecting them.

I'm reading Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson(can't believe it's taken me this many years to start this series), Pattern Recognition by William Gibson, and Tricky Business by Dave Barry.  I tend to have a different book in each room of the house.  It's a bad habit.

I started Shadows by John Saul yesterday and couldn't put it down- I finished it this morning. It was so good! It's the first time I've read anything of his, and I can't wait to read more oh his stuff!

It was just so fabulous. I may reread it tomorrow!

read anything by chuck palahnuik... (sp?) ... he is great at taking social norms and twisting them until you are ill.. i haven't read Snuff yet... but waiting on softcover...

right now i am reading the Lonesome Dove series... 1. Dead Man Walking 2. Comanche Moon 3. Lonesome Dove and 4. Streets of Laredo.

I just finished Comanche Moon (brutal) and now am rereading Lonesome Dove.. wanted to read them all in order... John Updike just died, so I plan to read Witches of Eastwick next.

I do so love to read...

I also have just ordered Skinny Bitches and the Abs Diet... i am always looking for some sort of guidance!

oh wait... was this supposed to be sci-fi / fantasy... sorry.. i just noticed... Embarassed

Hi!

For the last year I've been collecting Discworld books (read till now about 20+) and even if u're not into it as a series, books like "the truth" or "going postal" and "making money" r great. I've noticed that there are many cliche characters there (it's basicly the point) but in those books the characters are really good.

Also been reading the watch series (night watch, day watch, twilight watch), which are amazing! Being Russian allows me to read the original ones but I'm sure that the translation is good as well.

And for something really different - Ladies of Grace Adieu. The illustrations there are also something to be inspired by.
