Has anyone here been a member at curves? If so, what do you think? Did you notice any results? It seems like it's not a long enough workout to be effective.......

I do a 30 min workout 5 times a week and I saw great results, its what you do in that counts. :) but im not a member of curves
I used to be a member of Curves.  I didn't lose any weight and had trouble going 3 times a week.  I actually gained.  I paid more money to get out of my contract and went to the YMCA.
I was a member for awhile, and while I didn't lose much weight, I toned up considerably. The people are almost always nice, and there aren't any guys, so you can feel completely at home!
I gained about... twenty pounds-ish doing Curves?  And no, it wasn't muscle 'cause I also went up two pant sizes.

I followed their diet, I followed their program, and I weighed in at the same time, six AM, every day I went.

I'd rather work out at home.  I don't have to sit on a machine covered in someone elses crotch sweat.

its working fine for me...but I just started two months ago....

I like it because I travel with work and i can go anywhere with a travel pass..and even teensy towns usually have a curves....

but if you dont try...you wont get anything out of it..I wear my heart rate monitor so I make sure I keep my heart rate up...I think that is peoples main complaint about it

cell..I wonder how you ended up gaining....thats weird...

I LOVE Curves! I lost 60 lbs 3 years ago when I joined. I love that it is geared for women, you only have to spend 30 min. and its not as boring as other exercizes. Don't get me wrong, I hate exercize of any kind but I can stick with this. I joined again this year and so far have gone daily.

My only complaint is that it is so expensive.

The reason I ask is because I've done one workout already and I'm in NO pain , I mean not sore at all. I used to work at 24 hour fitness and when I worked out there I was usually pretty sore the following day.

I have found the pricing to be reasonable (I haven't officially joined yet). But it only comes to 39$/month and my company gives me an allowance of 20$/month for gym memberships.

I go back for my second workout tonight. I get 6 weeks free as I'm apart of some sort of fitness study where I have to go 3 days a week.

Julie1953, 60 lbs! Way to go!!!!!!!!!!!!Laughing

My mom is a member there and so am I. I go with her sometimes when I'm not having any sports practices or anything. She did the 1 month class when she first joined, and she lost a lot of weight and inches while following the plan and everyhing, but she's drawn back a bit this past year, but now she's getting back into it. We've been really bussy and so she hardly had time to go, but still, she wasn't eating the healthiest either...but now my parents are trying to eat a lot healthier now, and it's great for me, because that means there's ALWAYS fruit in the house now, when I used to have to BEG for it. HAHA. Anywho, my grandma and my Aunt go as well, and they have started seeing great results too. But you have to remember that since the machines are air compressed, you get what you give. You have to work harder and go faster to get a better workout on the machines...and in between stations, don't just stand there, you have to actually jump around like a crazy person lol.

haha yeah you really get out of it what you put in...Im glad Im not the only one who realizes that....

i typically burn between 300-350 calories a session....and it beats walking on the treadmill...

I used to be a fitness technician at Curves, which means I actually got to work out for free :)  Motivating all the ladies to push harder and faster was something I always tried to do while I was in the middle.  We made it mandatory to check your heart rate when the tape prompted you to.  Mine was always above 70%, so I know I got a good workout.  If you're not sweating after the first 10 minutes and your heart rate is not at least 70%, then you won't see results.  When it came time to measure members, those who really pushed themselves were the ones who got the desired results.  I personally lost several inches and a few pounds.  My arms and thighs had never looked as good as when I was doing the circuit regularly.  Try doing kick boxing moves on the gray squares; that's what I usually did!  I totally agree with what others are saying; you get what you put in, and that's with any type of exercising that you're doing :)
Thank you all so much! Yes, I am giving it all I've got. My heart rate is good and I sweat like a pig. (Pigs don't really sweat though). I can feel the soreness now and that keeps me motivated. I get measured in again in 2 more weeks, that will be the deciding factor for me if I join. I like that it's an all women facility. I used to work at 24 hour fitness and I hate that it's such a meat market.
