cutting appetite

Hey there everyone

Just as a suggestion I wanted to write about cayenne pepper. You would all know the lemon diet I guess.

Well, I'm kind of using the mixture for my daily diet to cut my big appetite.

Whenever I feel really hungry or just want to eat something for the sake of it (having already eaten my meal), I mix two tablespoons of fresh lemon juice and 2 teaspoons of cayenne pepper in a cup of water and drink it. It really does immediately stop my need to eat. I don't even think of food. I don't add the maple syrup myself, but if you would like to, one cup of that mixture is only 100 calories.

I read on a web site that cayenne pepper also makes your metabolism work a bit too. I don't know if this is true but it surely stops me from eating.

What do you guys  think?

When I first heard about the "master cleanse" diet with the lemon/pepper/maple syrup thing, all I could think was "yep, if I had to drink that combination I wouldn't want to eat anything after that."

Hahaha! Particle_Woman, that's great! XD

I will have to get my hands on some lemon and cayenne powder! I have been having areally difficult time sticking to my calorie budget.

Sounds like an interesting idea! I'm glad to see someone taking something which is a part of something so unhealthy and making it into a healthy and helpful convention! Good for you!

I think this is a terrible idea and it sounds like you're condoning starvation. I am not sure if this is your intent but because CC supports healthy maintenance this post will be locked.

Just so everyone is on the same page, Calorie Count absolutely does not support fasting or cleanses for weight loss purposes and those threads supporting it for WL will be considered as against CC policy.

Here is some info from our in-house nutritionist Mary Hartley on her "Ask Mary" page:

Is it safe to do a cleansing fast?

In many cultures, fasting is used to achieve physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing. Brief fasting is harmless, although there is no evidence that it benefits the body. After one day of fasting, the body starts to break down protein from the muscles and organs. Protein is converted into glucose to feed the brain and central nervous system. Less muscle means lower calorie requirements, which can promote weight gain in the future. Food deprivation may also lead to overeating when food is available again. Pregnant and lactating women, growing children, insulin-dependent diabetics, and people taking certain medications should never fast.
