Daily calorie goal too low?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi -- I'm new to Calorie Count, so I'm just starting to feel my way around here.  Calorie Count just set my daily calorie goal at 1200, but that seems awful low to me.  Is that even healthy?  I'm 5'4", 182 pounds, with a moderate exercise regimen.  Any opinions/help would be appreciated!

Yeah, a lot of people here think that tool can be confusing. This link gives you a better idea of what you need:

Welcome to CC and good luck!

I would think that would be too low, 1200 is my calorie goal, but I'm only 5'0" and my weight is 171. I would think you shoul be in 1300-1500 a day but check out the website hotrebecainmensa just gave you, is more accurate. Have a great day!

If you extend your goal weight date out farther your calorie intake will adjust.  If you feel like you're starving every day after the first few days I would just extend the goal date.

Thank you, all, for your responses...I think I'll aim for about 1400 calories per day, give or take a few!

I aim for a 500 calorie deficit. That allows me to shed a very consistent 3/4 pound every week.  I'm 6'1" and I am now at 196. I started at 210 and I intend to go to 166. Slow and steady wins the race...It dose not really feel like dieting at this pace. Just smarter food choices, exercise and portion control.

I'm 5'2" and 163, and eat usually around 1600+ a day.  And I'm losing quite a bit.  When I started I was eating 1200 a day and was constantly tired, got headaches all the time, and that was the amount CC was recommending.  I've learned to take calculations with a grain of salt. :)
