Daily calorie intake?

Why is it not recommended to go under 1200 calories daily?

Because your body needs at LEAST that, depending on your activity level, to do its thing...keep your heart beating, grow hair and nails, digest food . . . everything. I've lost almost 20 pounds since february, and that's on over 1500 calories a day.

You can't normally get the amount of nutrients you need under that amount.

Really you shouldnt be eating under your BMR though, which is the amount of calories you would burn if in a coma.

Really? well, Congratulations on losing those 20 pounds... I get so discouraged when I cant eat what I want... Its frustrating... Its frustrating being overweight... I feel guilty eating a freaking sandwich from the vending machine!

You CAN NOT make yourself feel guilty. Budget snacks into your food allowance. I count EVERYTHING!!!  Also, one bad day will not ruin all your hard work. They say you should eat healthily 90% of the time, and give yourself 10% of your calories to snacks, booze, whatever your vices are. AND, always remember to eat more on days you work out, otherwise your body just holds onto the fat it has!

And thank you Smile Its been a long hard road, and I have another 20 pounds to go, but I know I can do it. Just like i know you can do it.

yeah, don't feel guilty about food.  last night i over-ate quite a bit, and i actually felt good about it because i was able to eat foods that i normally don't let myself have.  and today i had some chocolate and cheese curls.  it takes some training, but you need to teach yourself to be ok with budgeting "bad" foods into your diet.  and you should still eat what you want, but your wants will change over time.  like now i'd rather have a bowl of fruit than a slice of cake, or carrots instead of potato chips.

a good example is my lunch today.  i went to arby's and had a regular roast beef with arby's sauce, a side salad with 1/2 packet of honey mustard dressing, and a diet blackberry iced tea.  that all added up to being about 430 calories.  you take the good, you take the bad, you take em both and there you have... a yummy, guilt-free meal!  moderation is one of the facts of life!
