Daily Chat - Poll

I have a question.....

This site is full of tons of people and yet only a few participate in the daily chat topic at one time. I would like to know how many of you relate to the following -

1. I have never tried that topic
2. I tried it but didn't like the chat
3. I tried it and liked it but left due to my own issues
4. I tried and and liked it but left due to hard feelings and felt "driven" away

seems to me that no thread must be all to all people.  it's not my brew, so i yak elsewhere. no big deal.

and, i'm not sure if this is a gripe against a particular mod, but if it is, then contact the website privately instead of backhanded smackdown.

No, no cliques...you just go in and start talking...or not, if you don't feel it.... No big deal. When you go there and indulge in a lot of negative self-talk, however, expect to be called on it. People have very little patience with it.

After reading all the responses to this thread I got a little curious and started dropping in to "lurk" in the daily chat.  Like I said earlier, I don't participate b/c I don't want to take the time to keep up...but I didn't know where this "driven away" feeling was coming from....so got curious

Anyway...after reading up in the chat room....I could see why some wouldn't want to participate...the tone seemed a bit judgemental and yes...a little "highschool-ish" (if that's a word)...just my 2 cents and it's worth about that much ;p

But if it's not your cup of tea....*shrug* don't particpate

I have had some really insightful conversations there. But it ebbs and flows. I like the idea of an all-inclusive forum that isn't limited by age, weight loss goals, gender, game participation or religious beliefs.

You can throw out a topic, or voice an opinion, whether you are 18 or 88...I like that.

The chat is a fun way to kill a few minutes if I get a break at work, which is not very often. It just never crossed my mind that it was something to be taken so seriously.  If you dont like it, you dont have to participate, no big deal. I think its a good time.

I only started chatting a few months ago. Not being aware of the accepted way of chatting, I posted a huge splork much like I would in a normal forum reply. I killed the chat completely dead.

Yep... I almost ran away after that. Nothing makes you feel more like an outsider like completely killing a chat.

But, I came back. I've been in chat rooms before. You just have to learn the rhythm of the chat and the accepted chat norms. (Like, don't splork.) It's not just a CC thing, it's like that in any chat.

I agree with a lot of comments.

Yak, this is not about 1 particular mod and I have contacted the site owners.

Jules, yes they do welcome you upfront. Like I said, I was involved for almost a year. But once some little part of you goes against one of them, you're "outed."

As I said, I have no problem with any other chat. This one has lots of mods in it, saying that you are welcome and saying that they are NOT a clique.......and yet ???????

Besides, I guess my issue is more about abused authority than anything else....the mods should be more responsible and not so reactive

I don't fit in anywhere.

I don't care how a moderator reacts to me, I simply type as much as I can get away with.

When ANY moderator tells me I am "reaching undefined boundaries"  I back off, and try a new angle of attack!

This isn't my site, I don't make the rules.  I am a priviledged member so I follow the rules put in front of me.

Now that I just re-read your post I realize I am not really part of your survey.  This 'cliquey' post is for people who left the chat only.

Not true froth....it's for anyone on the site.

I only posted it to see how many people feel the way that I do.

(plus, I was in the chat a long time....but when the players changed, so did the mood of the chat)

By leaving the chat, are you contributing to the mood swing?

I mean if you were there to yak with me, wouldn't the chat be what we want it to be?

I think chat changes from day to day and week to week.

Chat is about escapism and fun.

We're like, i dunno, a huge sorority/fraternity in their.  Nah hmmm... that's not quite right either.  Not quite a family but...okay I can't quite think of a good analogy but... most of the time chat is fun and light and what not.  Sometimes someone brings in a personal issue and we all huddle around and either try to offer advice or hug and offer support.

And sometimes people, for whatever reason, blow up. Or take chat too seriously...and their virtual world and real world collide. Some bounce back, some don't.

There are days that I'm more involved and days I'm less involved.

I've stated before that there is an ebb and flow to chat.  Sometimes theirs a killer wave and you just gotta grab yer board and hang 10.  Other times, it feels like paddling around with now waves in sight. And sometimes... you just gotta break out the skidoo.

I joined the chat about the same time Kipp left - so I have no idea what precipitated that.

But once I got the courage to jump in - I have felt nothing but welcomed.  By everyone.

In fact - I felt so welcome that I'm going to visit people this summer.

I still feel that if the mods are in there, they have a responsibilty to use their powers for good not evil.

What evil has happened kipp?

I mean in reality.  I mean in virtual reality.

Actually I am not sure what I mean, but what is the trouble?

Too much to get into....I was just posting this to see how other people felt about the daily chat....I have saved texts of stuff but it is not appropriate to post here....foul language and all....

Well I think that people should be nice to each other.

But I also think that if you don't contribute to the chat, it will likely go it's own way.

By contributing to the chat, I hope to help it go my way.  I am in my own group, just me I am the only frothbeast, and the only other person close to my non-human clique is bobbimonster.

So far I have been castrated, opressed, made fun of, pet like a dog, washed like a dog, someone stole my internet virginity, and many people have drank all my virtual whiskey without replacing it. 

EDIT-------> Someone stole my truck in the chat as well

So far none of theis makes me think I need to leave the chat. 

Kipp: The only issue anyone ever had with you was your extremely negative self-talk....you were threatening to starve yourself, for Pete's sake! We don't cotton to that kind of thinking on this site anywhere, even on the chat thread.

Come on, honey, let go of the anger and just...be grateful for all you've got. There are so many with much larger burdens to carry..
