What should your daily goal sugar and sodium intake be?
I have no idea what my daily intakes should be.
not sure about sugar but sodium is about 2400 mgs per day
If you go by the "Nutrition Report" on the "Analysis" tab on this website:
Sodium - 2400 mg/day
Sugar - 40 g
Cholesterol - 300 mg
Saturated Fat - 20 g
Fiber - ???
Vitamin A - 5000 IU
Vitamin C - 60 mg
Calcium - 1000 mg
Iron - 18 mg
The sodium and cholesterol values are widely-known. I find that I don't have any problem staying under these. Occasionally, I go over on the sodium (since I'm eating frozen dinners sometimes that are loaded), but on average, when looking at a week at a time, they are always under.
I never can stay under the sugar one, even though I don't eat sweets. Most of my sugar intake is natural, and I refuse to give up my orange juice because I believe the benefits outweigh... Personally, I just shoot for staying under 80 grams, which is 200%. I don't "limit" my sugar (since I don't think I'm eating many sweets and am not at all diabetic), but it never goes over 300%. This is just what works for me, and I am interested to know what other people's thoughts on this are.
Fiber varies, but I shoot for at least 20 grams per day. I think some diets recommend 25.
The actual values for the vitamins/minerals are what you get when you do the math, but they are usually always given in percentages anyway. I just thought it was interesting.
When I first started out, I was curious, so I figured up what they say you're "supposed to" get, but the best thing is just to use this as a guide to find out what works for you. I know you only asked about sugar and sodium, but I just included the others, in case others reading the thread are interested. These are just what I've found, when I looked it up, so others might have found different values for certain things. Your doctor might be able to give you some guidance too... ;)
Hope this helps!
