Dance Your Ass Off...I Think You've Gone Too Far...

Quote  |  Reply

I decided, against my better judgment, that I'd watch this show again. Nothing like watching someone else's struggle to put yours in prospective and give you an extra boost of motivation.

And then they brought out the stripper pole.

Now, I am all for getting fit. If you like to dance, please, dance away. However, a stripper pole? Really? Why? These people are already overweight and going through the indignity of wearing unflattering, skin tight clothes, why must they now struggle with a stripper pole? Fit people can't even pull that off (I'm guessing. I don't know, it looks difficult).

When I saw it, I felt that it pushed the whole thing from a weight loss show to simply embarrassing. :/

Sorry, had to get that out.

People will do anything... anything for money.

I love that show. All the contestants are people who love dancing. That's why they're there instead of on Biggest Loser. And they're not naked or anything. I don't have a problem with it.

At first I felt extremely embarrassed for them, but after watching the second episode I felt differently. Their outfits are just RIDICULOUS, I wish they'd have better clothing choices. I'm curious as to what happens on the show when they plateau (assuming that they'll go through this).

@kimothyschma: I don't think it's a problem, I just think that's it's gotten a little ridiculous, past the point of dancing I guess.

@luhluhlovesongs: I think the outfits are more for the people watching than for them to be honest. I guess cause the whole stripper thing was included, it really couldn't be helped. If they plateau...I guess they'll have to dance really, really, really well.

I guess you're kind of right. But I don't think thats a good thing....One girl was wearing a low cut shirt in one episode with her stomach exposed, I remember.
I had to cover my eyes the whole time. Not cuz it was gross, but cuz I felt embarrassed for her.

Yeah...It just seems like it more of a, "Haha, look at the fat people dance," than a work out show. With the some of the dances, costumes...stripper poles(not letting it go). I get nervous when I too much of my arms are exposed, I can't imagine walking out with everything hanging out and having to dance around to make it all jiggle at once. But they do seem excited in the dressing room. *w*

I hope they just clean up their act a little. If they just let them dance, like a normal person, and lose weight without it being so embarassing, it'll be all good.

I haven't been reading the forums much, so I did a search for the show title and this was the only post I found, so forgive me if there's already a topic on this...

I've been watching the show and have mixed feelings about it. Overall, I enjoyed that they were teaching people how to be healthy and how to stay fit in a way that they enjoy. HOWEVER, tonight there was a clip with Pinky and the nutritionist where they talked about how many calories Pinky is allowed to eat. They had her at (IIRC) 1035 calories per day and dropped her down to 900-something. This girl is dancing 2+ hours a day and hitting the gym for 3+!!! They already have her below the minimum caloric intake for a sedendary woman, nevermind with the added exercise. No wonder the girl is having such a hard time dropping the weight! I couldn't believe that a nutritionist would promote such a program and that they would promote it on television. Appalling.

Honestly, when i first saw the TV commercial for this program, i thought that it was a joke.

@mgorman: I heard that and I was shocked. I was like, "...so no one's going to say anything about her being in starvation mode!? What in the world is wrong with these people!"

@purpleapple: I think we all thought that...and then were horribly disappointed.

Doesn't it take a while to get to Starvation mode?

I admit when I started watching this show, I thought it would be a little better, but now I just want to see what happens.... I agree with the  comments about the outfits....I can't believe some of them are wearing what they are.  I mean, one keeps going on and on about wanting to make their kids proud, etc and I think to myself if that were my mom and I was anywhere between 12 and 18.....ugh.

I heard the comment about Pinky's calories too and was shocked....it was one thing to be in that range to begin with.  I am totally against and do not think its healthy....but then to promote it by airing those numbers and support it because a "nutritionist" says its the way to go.....thats just horrible.

I'm hoping everyone comes back at the end like Biggest Loser so we can see if the people who got outted stick with it and lose some more weight.

Okay I haven't seen the most recent episode, but based on these posts, I don't think I want to.

>_> I dislike that a show that A LOT of people will watch is promoting that kind of diet.

Ridiculous!

Just to clear this up, because it bugged me when I read it.
Pole dancing (for fitness) is actually a great workout. I have been taking classes since January. It is not 'hard' to do, because it is in levels, so it is progressive. At the studio I dance at, there is SUCH a wide variety of people. Short, young, petite people like myself are a minority, for sure. There are quite a few mid-to-overweight women who are taking the classes, and many of them are seeing positive results. There are younger heavier people but also older(50+) that come weekly or more.
And many of the heavier people are - you guessed it - better dancers than the rest of us.

Just my comment on that, I haven't actually seen the show xD

That has nothing to do with what I was talking about at all. People can do whatever they want to work out, including pole dancing, no matter their size or age. If it works for you, more power to you. My comment was on the fact that they did this on national television, wearing very, very unflattering clothing, not that they made them dance. It seemed that it was more of a joke than an actual work out making someone do that in such a fashion.

Thanks for not understanding the point of my post and snapping at me. :(

I don't think it's automatic, lol, I think it's just the fact that a nutritionist would suggest that that's gotten us in a tizzy. :0

I don't think they were snapping at you at all, but it sure sounded like you snapped back.

I felt snapped at. x_x Like he was saying that I said overweight people are restricted in what activities they decide to pursue, so I wanted to explain myself and that I felt snapped at/misunderstood.

Have to say, you didn't help. x_x

Now I feel snapped at, and like a jerk. What a wonderful day for me.

No, you just assumed that it was something difficult to do for even someone who was fit, and really its great for everyone, move at your own pace. I feel no sympathy for ANYONE on TV, even if they had had those people naked and trying to pole dance. They're all sell-outs, the second they step in front of the camera they're a sell-out. I'm sorry, but they deserve everything they get if they think that all their weightloss problems are going to solved because they went on some TV show. You can't tell me, not for a second, that they 'forced' anyone to do that. If they didn't feel comfortable going on national television and making fools of themselves, they wouldnt've signed up for a reality show in the first place. I have watched the biggest loser a few times, and I think the concept is stupid. Great for the people who "win", but I think that it is looked at the wrong way. People on that show will be upset when they 'only' lose 3 pounds, and don't 'win' because someone else lost 7 that week. I think every pound lost should be celebrted for all of those people, because losing weight is definitely a challenge for most. But really, the point I want to make is that all the whiny people making fools of themselves on that show and others deserve to feel like idiots when they get back to their hometown. Find a regular exercise and eating program people and stop trying to get your '15 minutes' on reality shows.

gotta go with buckcherry on this.  i haven't watched the show (and won't), but people who audition for reality shows are obviously attention whores.  they probably love the costumes and the poles.

I did say, "I'm guessing. I don't know, it looks difficult" right after I said that, pretty much saying that anything I assumed was without research, but I get what you're saying and agree with it. :0 I myself was shocked at how far the show was going, but I guess they did ask for it. *w*
