Dance Your A__ Off?

Did anyone happen to catch the premier of the show Dance Your Ass Off last night? If so, what do you think?

I really enjoyed it, but felt a little guilty the whole time. I was conflicted about if they were being a exploited a little. I thought the costumes wer sooooo unflattering and I felt like it was on purpose to make them seem ridiculous. However, many of them really could dance well and should be SMOKIN' by the end of the competition.

I felt so sorry for the boy who hadn't had a girlfriend since the 8th grade. He was so cute and I thought it was just sad that apparently his weight has made him too shy to approach girls.

I thought the blond girl was so snotty saying that the other people were so much fatter than her. But, I have to admit, she really was a good dancer and-wow- losing so much weight!

I was glad the former model got the boot. What a waste to put her in there! She had 2 left feet!

I'm kinda torn because I do feel like people will only watch to make fun of them and I find it kinda hard to believe that some of them lost up to 13 pounds in a weeks time. I think that's unrealistic.

On the other hand I found it entertaining and inspiring, yeah the costumes are a little suspect(especially the ones that the guys wore) but most of them seem to like them. I definitely think that they have the right idea as far as the professionals that are available to them. Overall I think that this one is worth watching.

I have mixed feeling.

I mean, I watched it, and I'll most likely continue to watch it, but at the same time, it's a little embarrassing. I understand their overweight, but must they wear clothes that show every inch of fat on their body in (for the most part) the most unflattering way? And the whole cheat closet. x_x That was upsetting to watch. I mean, you're on a show that's pretty much saying, "you're the fattest of the fat," and now you're going to stuff your face on public television? That was a little weird to me, but that was the people, not the show

It's inspiring, but I start to wonder what the limit of fat people entertainment will be.

I'll be honest. I know it's a popular show, but I think The Biggest Loser (so far) is worse than this. I tried to watch last season for the first time, but I found it cringe-worthy. At least this show seems pretty straight forward. Learn your dance while losing weight-no jumping through hoops or being chided like small children.

I kinda' think these shows are here to stay. As long obesity is an epidemic in America, there's going to be enough interest in these kinds of programs.

BTW, who the heck is the host they said was "so inspiring"?

I have no idea who the host is, but she needs a new stylist because that dress she had on was NOT cute! Maybe I can google her a find out who she is.

oh shoot, i missed it Cry

I found it very entertaining, and it's good that they're all trying hard and they all have the potential to see huge results by the end of the show.

That being said, I think they need different costumes. It seemed like they were somewhat mocking the contestants (as well as other shows like DWTS, obviously) & their efforts by putting them in ridiculous clothing that showed nearly everything. There wasn't one woman without a belly showing, that I can remember. And none of them even seemed bothered by it. Granted, you've gotta have a lot of confidence to try out for that show in the first place, but still.

And I agree with jaefuma, that cheat cabinet was a bit odd, and I understand it's supposed to represent "real life situations" but some of these people are majorly at risk for disease and even death! That one guy almost wasn't able to fly on a plane. And they barely seemed to address the fact that they had already began devouring the food in it within moments of arriving.

The concept is nice, but it just seems a little too campy and ridiculous to me. But I'll probably still watch, lol. Even though I absolutely hate the host (no clue where I've seen her before, but I don't like her).

Ok, so I was bored last night and I read the Bio for the host(I keep forgetting her name) anyway she was the star of Hairspray-on Broadway and was on Dancing With The Stars, season 6.

hey everyone, i missed the show but saw some of the commercials for it and it looked pretty interesting. anyone know what channel it's on?

It comes on Oxygen on Monday nights.

I agree that the costumes were a bit much. I understand clingy, but that is too clingy. And short shorts! come on now. The girl clearly was uncomfortable in them, tugging at the crotch a few times after her dance. They move exellant for their size. I should be so lucky!!!  I can bend, but need someone to show me the moves, lol. Plus they are half my age if not more.  I think the worst thing is, having that CHEAT Cupboard !  what are they thinking. That is defeating the purpose in my  opinion. Give them choices yes, but not the wrong ones. That's like saying " you look great! now have a donut " .  Geeze.

sounds interesting!

does anyone know where you can watch it online in canada?

The host's name is Marissa Jaret Winokur.  She was on "Dancing With the Stars" 2 or 3 seasons ago.  I think that's why she's backing this show....she was definitely the heaviest female contestant that season, but she had a whole lot of fun.  Plus I'm pretty sure she lost some weight or inches during her stint (I think she made it to week 5)...they practice a lot for that show.

all reality television is exploitive.  i doubt i'll watch, but i can't feel bad for people who want to do this kind of thing.
