I am looking for some fun workouts to do on days that I work. I work 12 hour shifts & somedays there is no way in the world I can get myself to the gym. :)
Oooo, I think that looks like fun! How are you playing? On a game system? At an arcade? Can you get that with a Wii? (We are planning to get a Wii for Christmas.)

Yes, there is DDR on the Wii, but the pad is horrible IMHO. I'm kind of "hardcore" when it comes to DDR, and can't play without at LEAST a foam pad (they run about $60 on Ebay, $100 in store, but totally worth the money but the Wii does not support these pads). Playing in the arcade is probably best if you can get over the initial "I suck" phase and embarrassment. When you get good at the game you'll probably WANT to play in front of people thinking that you look cool (me and my friends think we rock even though others may think we look ridiculous playing, lol). When I first started playing on heavy years ago I lost about 10 to 15lbs and people were always asking if I was losing weight, so yes, there is defiantly weight loss potential if you get good enough, but it takes time and dedication to get that good.
Anyone else have any results with it???
I've been doing DDR for about a month or so. It's a good light workout. I have added DDR, Wii Fit (I do DDR with the PS2 and Wii Fit with the Wii), and it's definitely helping. I don't know how much they are individually helping, but it's a great combo. Wii Fit in the mornings and DDR in the evenings.
Be aware, you aren't going to start doing the "heavy" mode anytime soon if you haven't played before. Definitely do the tutorial. I'm still on Light mode and some of the songs just kill me. Of course, I am seriously uncoordinated and I don't play DDR religiously. Just don't be disappointed if you have to start slowly. It takes time to get used to.
Good luck!
Oh, I am playing with a crappy $7 pad I got from the internet and it's doing just fine. It slides around on my carpet, but I just pretend that adds a degree of difficulty. ^_^
Lol. Exactly why I can't use those pads, they slide round too much! Oh, and if you get used to the arcade pad you figure out that the cheap pads are A LOT smaller. But these aren't really a concern unless you become really hardcore about your DDR. And it does take a while to get good at DDR but I found that once I bought the game to play at home my progress doubled in speed. It took me almost a year to get to Standard just playing at the arcade, but once I bought the game I was at heavy in about a month.
Also, double sided tape works well to keep it slipping on carpet. Just make sure not to get the good kind that will rip out your carpet :)
HAVE FUN!
Heh our DDR actually has a calorie counter setting on it. O.o It rrly is a suprisingly good work out. I'm horribly competative so when my hubby n' I play we both go balls to the wall. You can get it for the xbox er any system nowadays.
I'm a bit late reading this, but DDR is really helping me! When I don't feel like "working out" I jump on it for awhile and just play. Mine too has a calorie counter on it and I time how long I'm on it just so I can log it correctly. After 20-40 mins on it and seeing how many calories I'm burning, I'm ready to workout! I put one of those non-slip things that go under rugs under my dance pad to help keep it from sliding around (I don't have carpet).
Pole dancing did it for me! So much more fun than the gym and today I did my very first full pole inversion. Gives the body a great shape - here is how it works:
