Just recently tried this game at Disneyland... Its great.. wondering if the padded version of the dance mat makes a big difference for home use. Has anyone tried both?
I have tried both. Personally, I prefer the thick rubber "Red Octane" pads. They're easier on your feet than the hard pads.

hahaha I can't believe someone is threading about this right now!
I was just checking the forums while taking a break between DDR sets. I've burnt about 300 cals. today so far on Workout Mode.
Definitely invest in this! It's a great workout, and it's a blast!

I would like to warn that the Calories that Workout Mode suggests you burn are usually wrong, sometimes very wrong.
I compared the calories I burned according to my Heart Rate Monitor (which isn't exact either, but, I think, closer) to DDR Max 2 and it was WAAAY off.
Just warning :)

hkelick which was greater the HRM or DDR?
For DDR Max 2, it was DDR
Thanks... I am definately going to get it for the family for christmas.. I thought maybe my step counter would give me an accurate calorie count too... will let you know
I do DDR for the fun of it. Not really counting on the calorie counter, because it is very inaccurate. It is a great fun nonetheless and definitely gets your lower body working hard. Just don't sprain your ankle ~_^
I'm really surprised to hear that the DDR one was higher. I have an earlier version of DDR, and I'll be panting at the end of a song and it will say I've burnt less than 10 calories.
I agree with sweet_tart! :) It's a great deal of fun and it's still a workout and more active than most video games :)
And the songs are just FUN! :D

Agreed! DDR is great! I lost 30 pounds playing it years ago. I just hooked my pad back up last week and it still works! Woot DDR!
hello all, would anyone know of where i can buy one of these DDR's?
Most game stores. Electronic Boutique, Gamestop, Circuit City, Best Buy, etc.. you need the game, a pad and.. whatever to play the game on :) (I have a PS/2 myself :) )
Just a suggestion for choosing the dance pads: you can buy the foldable ones and run the risk of getting wrinkles that will screw the sensors up badly, or buy the (much more) expensive metal ones. The metal ones will last you forever and are designed to take in more weight. If you can't afford the pricier ones, you can mod(ify) the cheap ones by stretching them over a wood plank, plastic desk mat, or other large stiff surface.
sam, that's what I did - I have the standard soft pads, and I duct taped them to a sheet of wood. It works great, and they last A LOT longer.
I'm really hoping to get the new DDR for Christmas!!!

I am also hoping to get DDR Supernova for Christmannukah ;)
I'm so excited someone else celebrates Christmukkah!
*laughs* Well, I'm Jewish, personally. And my fiancee and her family are Christian, so.. i get Christmas and Hannukah Gifts. :)
So... I have no idea if I'll get it for Christmas or Hannukah. Only that I hope to get it! :)
Otherwise, I shall go and buy it myself! :)

I think i'm going to follow the same policy, hk :)
*g* DDR fans, Unite! :)
I got a soft pad that you can roll-up. It is cheaper, great for storage issue, but not as easy to step on. It wrinkles and move around. Taping it to the floor is outta question lol. Taping it to a piece of wood or board sort of beats the 'ez storage' idea. So, this is what I do:
I bought a sheet of non-slip pad for rugs/carpet. Cut 2 pieces slightly larger to the pad. I use one underneath and one on top. The bottom one prevents the pad from moving on the floor. The top one prevents the pad from wrinkling.
When I am done I just roll them all up together and shove it under the sofa :p
