Dance Dance Revolution
Does anyone here play this game? I have it at home, and it is a
FANTASTIC way to exercise! It is so much fun and really works up a
sweat -- once you get into the standard phase.
They have the game for Playstation 2 and at most arcades. Anyone who likes video games should try it!

I bought it for my 17 y/o and also got the and arcade style meatl platform mat..$99.99 from toys r us..she lOVES it..keeps her in shape..its the only video game in the whole house as I dontt believe in them..lol..I haven't tried it yet though..maybe this summer..;)
lol, it is much less embarrassing to try it at home. It's also one of
those things that is really frustrating at first, but oh is it worth it.

Yes sparkles - they are awesome! I got mine in early February and use it regularly. I love the workout mode - program it to go for as many minutes as you want to work out or for as many calories as you want to burn. The music is very 'up' and fun (and not foul!) and it feels more like 'playing' than working out. Mine is on the playstation2, but I know they also make a Mario Dance Dance Revolution for those that have an Game Cube (I'm pretty sure there's one for the XBox too. I recommend it to anyone - start our on any level you need - super easy to amazingly hard!
Hi, I'm new here, this is my first post.
I just got this for the xbox 360 and I love it. it is hard but I love it. and the xbox 360 version (DDR Universe) has a thing called workout mode that will count your steps and estimate how many calories you have burned based on steps and how many beats per minute your song is. It keeps track of it all you have to do is turn it on. very cool.
My only problem is it came with one of those flimsy plastic dance pads which are hard to use and hurt my shins because you have to play it barefoot. Hopefully they will come out with a metal pad that is compatible to the xbox 360 or make it so the old xbox ones are compatable with the 360.

I started at the end of October at 226 I am now 191 and still loosing. DDR is one of the best things that ever happened to me. My son saw it making such a big difference in me that he left his xbox home when he went back to college, said I needed it more then he did.. heh.
The great thing about DDR is that it grows with you. When you first start a song may be hard, after practice you can do it over and over without getting tired, then you realize its not pushing your heart rate as it use to and its time to move to a harder song/steps.
I love my DDR. Right now its all I do for fat burning..after another 20-30 pounds I'll be adding weight training to my routine.

I'm a player. I come and go in spurts because I've found DDR to be a bit of a light workout (compared to what I typically do.)
I've tried ddr on playsation and my hubby jsut bought it for the Xbox 360. We tried it last night & it was so much fun!!! My calves were killing me, but ina good way :)
halogirl66 - Madcatz makes a great pad that has that foam padding you put inside. It makes it thick and I think that stuff is called "anti fatigue" padding. It was much better to use than the one that came with it.

whoo hoo DDR players!
some tips:
1. Shuck that standard pad out the window. Invest a good 50 bux and get a foam pad. There are lots of types out there, so look online, ebay, electronics stores, etc. at more advanced levels, shitty pads can screw with accuracy
2. Apperently the calories burned is not very accurate, so get a heart rate monitor if you can.
3. screw those easy songs; play songs with high bpm or are jumpy as all hell. then you'll get your money's worth!

I started with slow songs. I was 226 at the time and very out of shappe. In light (beginner mode) it was enough at the time to keep my heart rate up, once I started getting A grades and the songs were easy I realize my heart rate was no longer being pushed and I moved to standard mode.
I love DDR, it grows with your fitness level. By the time you master a song and find it easy, you just move on to something harder.

I've been using DDR for a while on and off. I usually do it on the days I don't run, as a means of still feeling like I'm getting some cardio work in. I definitely break a sweat when I do the faster songs. I just bought DDR Universe (Fall Out Boy's "Dance Dance" on Medium just about wore me out!) and I think it's a great way to get a quick workout. I too, however, have heard that the calorie counter isn't so accurate, which makes sense.
Hi all DDR users!
My friend plays DDR with her daughter and really likes it. My only concern is that I have to wear tennis shoes due to Plantar Fasciitis in my feet. Can you buy better/shoe compatible mats? How much and where?
Thanks!

You can buy the metal mats starting around 200 in various places on the net. More expensive but way more durable and they take a beating.
The other option is like the red octane ignition 3.0 thick foam mat. It's really durable and if you live in the US buy it from best buy, for about 80 dollars and put a 2 year service contract on it for 13 dollars which covers the mat for two years. That way if it breaks they'll replace it for free then you pay (if you want) another 13 bucks to insure the new mat.
This is the mat I use and it is so comfortable on your feet and joints.

I'm getting this for xbox 360 soon!! I've heard SO much about it, I can't wait to workout with it!! lol
Hey, I got a DDR knockoff called Dance Factory and it allows you to use your own CD's so you have an unlimited choice of music. It has a versus mode, a endurance mode , and a fitness mode so you can see how many calories you've lost!! It's pretty good and it cost about $30 for the program and 1 beat pad. So far I love it.
hm i've been playing this game for well over a year now. i was into before any kind of fitness program was put into my life. And i was wondering. How off are these cal meters in work out mode? I mean some heavy songs i can burn 30-50cals. It kind of seems like too many altho it is very fast and your legs do move quite quickly. i just wanted someone's opinion
oh besides that THIS GAME IS AWESOME
great way to get in shape. i used to get out of breathe from a standard song and now i get do like 15 heavy songs without even breaking a sweat. whcih rises another question. does that mean i am burning less cals?

You know, I've been wanting to try DDR for... forever! It looks like so much fun. The thing is, I don't have any game systems... so buying one just to play DDR kind of makes the whole setup more expensive. Which game system should I go with... xbox, playstation, game cube? I've never been interested in video games, so whatever I purchased would only need to be good for DDR.
BTW, I saw a really neat DDR game at a convention last summer. On that one you used both your arms and your legs.

i'd go with the ps2. there are more versions of the game. aka more songs.
plus it's cheaper to get a ps2 rather then an xbox360.
you could go with an xbox as well, but i haven't had any experience with the regular xbox and ddr.

OMG my sister bought me this YEARS ago and I haven't used it yet.
I have to dig this one out and invest in one of those foam pads.
I wonder if the whole jumping around thing will bother my neighbors downstairs in my apartment complex?

I have regular Xbox. But if I were buying one i'd go with PS2 simply because they have more DDR games and quite a few knock off DDR games.
Only if you jump really hard. I've learned not to jump to high to keep the room shaking at a minimal heh

The calorie meter on DDR is off but it might be off in the other direction. You can be moving all over the place but if your feet don't hit the right arrows then it doesn't count the step. If you do heavy and miss half of the arrows it may tell you that you only burned 15 or 20 calories. Crazy, I know. I've been puzzling for years over how accurate it is and how it works. And I'm no closer. I know that I sweat about the same amout after a workout on DDR as an equal calorie amount workout on a treadmill.
